It was like the floodgates were opened.
The moment Rob asked the people in there what they were doing, everyone started speaking over one another. Rob had a hard time trying to follow their conversation. Luckily, they too realized it and toned it down.
For the next hour, Rob was treated to one exhibition after another. It was one guy after the other. They introduced Rob to their project and started talking about them very passionately.
However, they never seemed to stop. Fortunately, the rest didn’t have much patience either. They would cut in and explain what they were doing. Sometimes there would be conflicting viewpoints between two projects that would lead to an argument.
The others even started taking sides and began arguing more and more. When such a thing happened, Rob would have to cut in and ask one of the other guys what their project was.
Luckily for Rob, there weren’t many people there. With six or seven guys working on different projects, the explanations quickly came to an end. Rob let out a huge sigh after that.
"So, what do you think? These things just blew your mind, right?" Brent said eagerly excited to talk more. "I know right, look at them. This place is so packed with energy."
Rob didn’t think so. To him, this was pure chaos. These guys didn’t have a clear direction. They were trying to do whatever they wanted, not even thinking about putting all their efforts into a single project and completing it.
If all these guys came together and created something, Rob would be glad to listen to what it was. However, these guys really were like a bunch of loose sand. There was no cohesion or teamwork among them.
As much as Rob wanted to say that to Brent, he didn’t want to be that guy. He didn’t think their relationship would last long if Rob did that at this particular stage.
So, Rob kept his gob shut.
Moreover, after listening to these guys prattle on and on about computers and hearing a lot of technical mumbo jumbo, Rob was already feeling a headache coming in.
He was glad that he didn’t get into the tech industry now. Just listening to these guys prattle alone was enough to give him a headache. If he was to do this all day, Rob would have to kill himself.
"Yeah, that is a lot to take in," Rob said with a strained smile.
"I know," Brent said sympathetically. "I am sure you didn’t expect them to be this talented, right? Mark my words, this is the place where the world will change. And these guys would be the ones to do that."
Rob sincerely doubted that. To him, this was like a congregation of geeks trying to do their own stuff. Without a proper direction and someone to oversee them, they would never amount to anything.
But, he didn’t have the heart to say it to Brent’s face.
After all, the reason he met with Brent was already a success. While Brent didn’t realize it, he had already given Rob a direction for his future investment. That information about IndiSoft was alone worth the hassle Rob had to endure.
"Well, good luck with that. Anyway, I gotta go. I need to prepare for next week’s show and stuff. I will see you around," Rob said looking around the place one last time.
"Ah, man, it would have been good to have you around for some more time. We don’t get many visitors here," Brent said with a disappointed expression.
It was on the tip of Rob’s tongue to state that it was because no one wanted to endure this chaos. But, he refrained and merely gifted Brent with a small smile.
"Don’t worry, I will come around when I have free time," Rob said patting Brent’s back.
"You are welcome anytime," Brent said nodding at Rob.
Rob couldn’t wait to get out of there soon enough. So, he bid these guys goodbye and came out. The first thing Rob did after coming out was to find a bar nearby and have a stiff drink.
As much as he liked Brent, the chaos in his place was just too much for Rob. And it wasn’t the good kind of chaos either. It was the kind that you wanted to run away from.
However, the stiff drink fixed the oncoming headache. Rob began to relax more after ordering a second one. He took his time with this one and leisurely sat there sipping his drink and enjoying the ambiance.
His weekend was very productive if he had to say himself. First, he got offered a chance at being on the commentary team. He really liked working with Dallas. It was fun to fight with the old man while doing commentary.
He never knew that he would enjoy it that much. But, Rob had to admit to himself that it was fun. And being on commentary, he would be able to take over some of Dacey’s burden with making this program work.
And then, there was that new contract.
He didn’t know what to feel about it. While he was happy with it and even liked being added to the commentary team, the news that Mr. Walker gave him was a wake-up call.
As much as he would like to pretend that it didn’t matter much, the possibility that LWC might fire him any moment they wanted really bothered Rob a bit. Rob didn’t want to dwell much on that.
However, he was also glad that he didn’t get locked up with LWC due to the contract either. If he could quit anytime he wants, then it would be a very good thing for Rob.
If things go sour at LWC, he could just quit anytime and look for something else elsewhere. He was not a rookie anymore and his appearance on TV as a commentator would raise his stock value further.
Unlike the last time he tried landing a job, this time there would at least be a few wrestling companies out there that would like to hire him if he needed a job. This gladdened Rob a bit.
He never forgot those initial days when he had to be frugal with his expenses and search all over for a job. Those were really sad days. Especially for a transmigrator like him.
After all, most transmigrators in the stories he read will have a convenient system or cheat to rely on. The only thing he had that could be considered a cheat was this wealth of knowledge he had from his experiences in his previous life.
Apart from it, he really had no other advantage over other people. He got to admit that he was really a pitiful transmigrator. He never had any cheats or a conveniently available resource for him to capitalize on.
Moving on, there was this last information he had heard from Brent. If Brent was right, IndiSoft will have some huge potential market in the next few years. If he could invest in them and capitalize on them, then he would be able to earn a lot of money out of investing in them.
That thought brought a smile to Rob’s face.
Just then, a conversation passed into Rob’s ears causing him to pause and listen carefully. Two middle-aged men were discussing very passionately regarding something that really piqued Rob’s interest.
"I am telling you, she just stood there and flipped all of us off," the first guy said impassionedly.
"No way, you really are telling me that this slip of a girl flipped off an entire arena bold as a brass," the second guy said in disbelief.
"You better believe it. I ain’t telling no lie. It’s a shame you couldn’t make it on Wednesday. You should have heard the crowd. It was really loud. We were all chanting and stuff. And she flipped us off man. I am telling you this bitch needs to be put in her place," the first guy said heatedly.
"I knew I should have made it," the second guy groused aggrievedly. "Do you think she will come out coming Wednesday?"
"I sure hope so. I and the other guys have made plans, you see. This time we are marching in there with our placards. All written <WHY DACEY WHY!?>. And when that bitch comes out, we are going to wave it in her face. We shall see whether she has the guts to not answer us again," the first guy said determinedly.
"Count me in," the second guy said quickly. "It’s been a long time since wrestling has been this interesting. I don’t want to miss out."
"It’s interesting all right," the first guy nodded. "I mean, earlier we were seeing these men going at each other. Don’t take this wrong, I love it and all that, but it does get boring a bit."
"And what this bitch did to Diana was really a shame. She sneak-attacked Diana after Diana was in a very grueling match and left her bleeding. For God’s sake, they needed to take her away in a stretcher," the first guy said shaking his head.
"And now she is flipping the entire crowd off. I gotta say, that bitch has some balls on her. I don’t like her one bit, but I have to give her that. And if it is the last thing I did, I will get her to answer."
"There has to be some serious issue between them for that bitch to attack Diana like that," the second guy guessed. "You don’t leave someone bleeding out there in front of everyone if there isn’t a personal grudge. I am telling you," he waved his hands excitedly.
"Whatever that is, we will know. We can see how long she lasts when everyone is demanding answers out of her every time she steps in the wrestling ring," the first guy said nodding along.
"At least this is a bit interesting," the second guy said. "Did you see the shit that AWF put out? It was the same old thing again. Match after match. While I haven’t seen that particular pair wrestle before, you gotta admit that there are only so many moves they could do."
"Whatever, all my mind could think of now is demanding an answer out of that bitch," the first guy said shaking his head.
"You seem to be hell-bent on getting an answer out of her," the second guy chuckled waving for the bill.
The waiter approached and gave them the bill.
"You bet your ass I do," the first guy snorted.
"Ha ha ha... how about we have a bet? If that bitch answers your question coming Wednesday, I will pay when we meet next Sunday. If not, you will foot the bill," the second guy said suddenly out of nowhere.
"Why not? I am in. This just gives me more motivation to get her answer this Wednesday," the first guy said without giving an inch.
"You guys are not talking about that Dacey lady, are you?" the waiter asked with a small smile.
"You bet your ass, boy. It is exactly what we are talking about!" the first guy replied immediately.
"Well, it is not just you. Many people are talking about her," the waiter said taking the amount. "Personally, I like her style. And she is one sexy lady."
"Yeah, she is one fine piece of ass. And once someone beats some respect into her, she would be more pleasant to look at," the first guy said laughing loud.
"Talk to yourself, I personally like some fight in my woman," the second guy chuckled.
"Oh I know, your wife is one hellion cat herself, isn’t she?" the first guy laughed along as they stood up and left the bar.
Rob sat there watching the entire interaction with a thoughtful look on his face. He wasn’t surprised that such a reaction came about. It was exactly what he was going for. It was gratifying to see people discussing it even here.
What made him thoughtful was the subtext in their conversation.
It was clear from the words spoken earlier that people were beginning to lose some interest in AWF as a product. And Rob was sure that it will happen more and more once his plans pan out.
He didn’t know how AWF was going to respond to that. And quite frankly, he didn’t care either. What he was thinking about was how to properly grasp that waning interest for LWC.
What he was going to do on commentary next week may be a good start. If his chemistry with Dallas worked as well as it did during trials, then it would become another notch in LWC’s cap.
But, it wouldn’t be enough.
He needed to make sure that the interest in the women’s division of LWC was kept high at all times. That means, he needed to shell out at least three different programs to keep people’s interest in the division growing.
While Dacey-Diana’s storyline was all set and had generated enough interest already, he couldn’t stop there. Dacey-Diana’s storyline can be the main storyline. But, it needs support from other programs to keep the interest of the crowd growing.
The next one he had in hand was the idea between Evelyn and Selena. It was just an idea at this point. He needed to add some spice to it and let the two women shine more than ever.
They already had a good momentum going for them right now. If he could capitalize on it and create another good storyline for them, then things would look really good for LWC.
But, he needs another story. Nothing sensational like Dacey-Diana or riveting like Evelyn-Selena. Something small, but had enough meat to it that people can bite. Something, which doesn’t require more appearances, but will have enough value to keep it interesting for the audience.
After all, he only had fifteen minutes each week to book them. Dacey-Diana’s storyline will take the major chunk of those minutes. And the second priority will be the Evelyn-Selena storyline.
That didn’t leave much space for other wrestlers to perform. Even in that, he had other plans for Fiona and Alanna. That left using half-trained wrestlers who were in developmental.
That was not a good option for him.
He needed to come up with something good to make them look good. All the while, he should limit their appearance time as well. One to give enough time for the two major storylines he was going to go with. And two, so that they don’t expose their immaturity and ruin the entire thing.
It was really hard to pull that off. If worse comes to worst and he couldn’t give anything for those in developmental, then he needs to buff up the Evelyn-Selena storyline as well.
As Rob mulled over these issues, his mind suddenly sparked. One particular sentence among the words spoken by the duo piqued his interest more. He could smell something very important in it. He knew that if he caught on to that, he would make Dacey huge.
"We can see how long she lasts when everyone is demanding answers out of her every time she steps into the wrestling ring, huh? What if I add some spice to it? I am sure that guy is not the only one who thinks like that. If I could give this sentiment a little push, hmmm, there is potential in this," Rob smiled evilly downing his drink in one gulp.
He now had a very good idea of how to make Dacey hot while earning good bucks for LWC. It would both buff up the financial aspects of the company and elevate Dacey’s heel status to a whole new level.
