Chapter 67: Date With Dacey

"Come in," Rob said as he heard a knock on the door.

Looking up from the documents he was pursuing, he saw Dacey standing in the doorway and looking towards him a little apprehensively. She wasn’t wearing anything spectacular at the moment, as she had just finished her workout.

However, Rob felt his heartbeat speed up seeing her standing in the doorway. A smile crept upon his face without even him knowing. Rob hastily put down the documents in his hands and greeted her.

"Hey, Dacey! Ah, one moment, let me just put these away," he hastily said standing up from his chair.

Dacey merely nodded. There was red spreading across her cheeks as Rob started fumbling in a hurry to put the documents away in a pile. He hastily lumped the documents scattered across his desk into a pile and cleared up his desk, before walking towards the door.

In his mind, he was cursing at the lack of technological advances in this world at the moment. If he had been on a computer, he could simply lock it by pressing a few keys. It would have been even better if it was on a smartphone. A single press of a button could have done the job.

Instead, he was now clearing the mess in his office in a hasty manner in front of a woman he was going out with. Rob felt a little embarrassed as he approached Dacey.

After his meeting with Mr. Gibson and others early in the day, his mind has been kind of preoccupied with the stuff that had been discussed during the meeting. He had almost forgotten about going out with Dacey later in the evening.

And now, Dacey was standing at his office doorway. He felt his performance so far had been really poor. First of, it had been Dacey that had asked him out and not the other way around. And now, she was waiting for him at his office doorway. He cringed as he realized that he was not making a good impression here.

Before the meeting, he had planned to finish his stuff by the afternoon and meet Dacey at the training center in the evening before taking her out. But now, he had fumbled all of this by getting immersed in his work.

"Sorry about that, <Last Stand> was a huge hit and more work has piled up," Rob said sheepishly as he closed the door behind him.

"No problem, I am actually happy that we did so well," Dacey said smiling a little.

Rob nodded understanding what Dacey meant.

"True, last night has been a huge success. We have firmly established ourselves in the wrestling circle as a mid-tier promotion now," Rob said as he walked with Dacey toward the exit.

"Really? I thought LWC was only low-tier?" Dacey asked in surprise.

"We were, but we have been putting out sold-out shows with over 1300 tickets consistently for the last three PPVs. One of the standards agreed upon in the circle for a mid-tier promotion was to sell out more than 1000 tickets for three consecutive PPVs. We have done it," Rob said smiling at her.

"Ah, that’s good to know. So, will the wrestlers be getting an increase in their salaries as well?" Dacey asked curiously.

"That, you have to ask Mr. Gibson," Rob said smiling and shaking his head.

Dacey chuckled.

While he had heard Dacey’s voice a lot during their interactions, Rob had never noticed how sweet her voice was until now. It was hard for him to imagine her as the top heel in the promotion currently.

Granted, Dacey was the only heel currently, it was kind of really hard to imagine her doing such stuff with such a sweet voice. And Rob also noticed that Dacey was being a little shy in his presence today.

Normally, she would be firing questions non-stop or chatting about something else. Today, however, she seemed to be more subdued. While he was curious regarding her behavior change, Rob didn’t want to pry too much this early into the date.

They walked the rest of the distance in silence and soon arrived at the entrance gate. Exiting the building, Rob realized that he hadn’t actually planned much for this date with Dacey. He once more felt like an idiot for fumbling this up so badly.

"Ahem," Rob cleared his throat. "So, what would you like to do?"

Rob asked hoping that Dacey at least had some plans so that things wouldn’t be too awkward between them. However, his hopes were dashed when Dacey replied.

"Hmmm, I am fine with whatever you have planned to do," Dacey said smiling in a mesmerizing way.

Rob felt his heart speeding up a little seeing that smile. For a moment, he was dazed. But, then Dacey’s words hit him like a ton of bricks causing him sober up quickly.

This was a standard female answer that guys would have to deal with when going on a date. He knew from his previous dating experiences that whatever didn’t mean whatever he had planned. It actually meant what she was comfortable with it.

"Hmmm, how about we grab a cup of coffee first in a nearby coffee shop? We can decide what we can do afterward later," Rob smiled smoothly as he tried to give himself more time to come up with a plan.

"Sure, why not," Dacey smiled happily.

Rob nodded and looked around to see if a coffee shop was nearby. Luckily for him, he remembered passing by a coffee shop a few blocks down the road.

"I remember seeing a coffee shop a few blocks down. How about we walk?" Rob asked Dacey.

"No issues," Dacey said smiling once more.

"So, how does being the LWC Women’s Champion feel?" Rob asked Dacey as they started walking towards the café.

"Well, after last night’s high came down, I am really frightened right now. I mean, Diana did a great job carrying this title, and now..."

"You don’t want to let that down?" Rob enquired smiling slightly.

"Yeah, it’s scary, to be honest. I mean, this was my dream and goal for some years now. You know, to be a champion. But, now that I have the championship, all I can feel is huge pressure and a fear that I will not do it justice."

"You don’t need to worry about it much. A championship run in one part circumstances, one part the champion, one part the audience, one part the history, and three parts booking. If there is a proper booking, you just need to carry it out properly so that you do it justice. Then, most things would just fall in place."

"The LWC Women’s Championship doesn’t have much of a history or a reputation among the audience. So, you don’t need to worry about not living up to the legacy. You just need to be yourself and not worry much. The booking part is on my head actually," Rob chuckled causing Dacey to smile a bit.

"Still, Diana had been such an incredible champion. She has elevated the title to a whole new level. Now that I am the champion, I feel that I have to set some high standards as well. You know, I feel like the reputation of the entire women’s locker room rests on my shoulders. I can only hope that I don’t fumble it," Dacey said shaking her head.

"Don’t worry, it is normal to feel some misgivings when there is such a huge responsibility placed on your shoulders. As you said, you are the face of the women’s division currently. And it is a huge responsibility to shoulder. You will find confidence as time progresses. Just take it one day at a time," Rob said encouragingly.

"Yeah, that is the only thing to do now, I guess," Dacey said shrugging her shoulders.

Rob felt that the initial awkwardness between them had reduced a little now. But, he also noticed that the conversation was a little more serious than he intended it to be. So, Rob decided to crack a joke to lighten the mood.

"I was hoping to see you flashing that title everywhere," Rob said smiling at Dacey. "Look here, you peasant, I am your Goddess. See this, this is the LWC Women’s Championship. Now bow down and worship me..."

"Stop it," Dacey laughed a little and swatted his shoulder in embarrassment. "You are embarrassing me. And for the record, you are the one who came up with the moniker Goddess. Not me,"

"Yeah, who was the one ordered me to keep both Queen and Goddess for her?"

"You!" Dacey hid her face as she flushed red. "Anyway, I am not going to parade with the championship as you say. No one will take me seriously."

"You will never know until you try," Rob said shrugging his shoulders.

"Nah, that’s not my thing. It is more of a Dacey Surestone thing," Dacey said shaking her head.

"Wait a minute, I thought you were Dacey Surestone."

"Urgh! I didn’t mean it like that! You know that kind of behavior is what Dacey Surestone – LWC Women’s Champion would do. I am just Dacey," Dacey ended the last sentence in a much lower tone.

"I understand. But, you should also understand that Dacey Surestone is a part of you. She doesn’t have to always take a backseat when you are not performing. You can let her come out from time to time," Rob smiled.

"Nah, she is too much of a drama queen," Dacey said rolling her eyes.

"So, I am not going to meet the Goddess. Oh my! What a tragedy!" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"You should feel lucky you are at least meeting me," Dacey said narrowing her eyes.

"I am. But, the Goddess is the Goddess. We mere mortals are all beneath her," Rob said referring to Dacey’s costume last night.

"Oh my god! You are embarrassing me. Can you not bring my gimmick up when we hang out outside of LWC?" Dacey said flushing more profusely.

"If that is what my Goddess orders," Rob wiggled his eyebrows causing Dacey to flush even more.

"Shut up, we are here. Come on, let’s go grab a table. And, one more word about my gimmick. I am throwing hot coffee in your face," Dacey said marching fast to enter the café.

"As you command, Goddess," Rob said snickering.

Dacey threw him a glare and walked into the café. However, Rob noticed that her steps had an extra sway in them as she walked in front of him now. Rob’s eyes couldn’t help but glance at her shapely ass.

Rob could clearly see that Dacey was enjoying his teasing. Despite her protests, it was clear that she liked being called Goddess by him. That extra sway in her hips when she entered the café was clearly a testament to it.

Rob smiled dopily and followed her into the café.

They quickly found a table some ways to the side and occupied it. The waitress came over and took their orders. During that time, Rob also noticed the waitress giving a side-eye to Dacey. He didn’t understand what the matter was yet, but Dacey seemed to have also perceived it as well.

"Do I need to know anything about her? Is she your ex?" Dacey asked once the waiter left.

"I have never seen her before," Rob said shaking his head.

"I don’t know her either," Dacey stated in confusion. "Why is she eyeing me like that? She looked as if I have offended her personally. This is the first time I have met her."

"I don’t know," Rob said glancing at the waitress who was watching them from the distance. "Let’s just finish our coffee and leave this place."

"Yeah, I think that would be better as well," Dacey said as she too stole a glance at the waitress. "Oh my gosh! She is still staring at me as if I had run over her dog," Dacey whispered in a panicked tone.

"Just ignore her," Rob said smiling at Dacey. "What do you want to do next?"

Rob asked trying to divert Dacey’s attention from the creepy waitress.

"I don’t know. It has been a couple of years since I dated anyone. I just don’t know what is considered common these days. What about you? Have you dated anyone recently?"

"Nah, I have been pretty busy for the past year. Ever since I joined LWC, I don’t have enough time to even sleep properly."

"That is because you voluntarily work extra," Dacey said rolling her eyes.

"Yeah, but I kinda like it. I mean, the work and the stuff I learned during this time. Frankly, I am enjoying my work too much these days to even consider dating," Rob said.

The moment Rob said that he knew he had made a mistake. Dacey’s smile faltered a little and her posture turned a little subdued all of a sudden.

"Oh!"
