Booking Glory-Chapter 96: You Can Become A Millionaire!!!
Rob felt absolutely livid when he heard his phone ring.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes, he saw Dacey moving back with a slightly disappointed expression on her face. The moment was absolutely ruined and Rob felt like punching someone right at this moment.
"Pick the call, something important might come up," Dacey urged seeing him standing there and letting the phone ring. "I will pour us some drinks."
Dacey smiled and got busy pouring drinks.
Rob reluctantly took his phone and found it was from his stockbroker. Rob felt like throttling the man if he was here in person. After not picking up his calls all morning, he had found a really inopportune time to call back. Controlling his emotions, Rob picked up the call and answered.
"Hello, this is Rob Williams," Rob said a little impatiently.
He was not in the mood to listen about stocks. He had much better things to take care of here. Hence, Rob wanted to end this call as soon as possible and get back to what really mattered to him.
"Hey, Rob! Rob! Where are you? I have been trying to reach you all morning," the stockbroker said causing Rob to grind his teeth angrily.
"I was the one who called you twice in the morning. You didn’t pick up my calls," Rob grit out a little angrily.
"Oh, that! Nevermind, nevermind, I was a little busy. I am standing at your home right now. It looks like it is locked. Where are you? I have something important to discuss with you," the stockbroker simply glossed over the previous statement and asked Rob his whereabouts.
"I am outside at a friend’s place," Rob said nodding thanks to Dacey as she gave him a glass of juice. "I will be back by night. We can meet up at night for drinks if you want," Rob said mentally searching where to meet up with him.
"Night! Night!" the stockbroker shouted as if Rob had poured hot water on his feet. "That won’t do. Tell me where you are. I will come there immediately."
Rob felt his irritation rising with each statement the stockbroker spoke. He controlled his impulse to shout at him and ground out, "Not possible. We can meet tonight."
"No, no, Rob. This is important. I need to see you immediately. You don’t know what’s happening. We can’t delay."
"Then tell me over the phone," Rob said a little reluctantly.
"No, no, this isn’t stuff we can talk over the phone. Tell me where you are. I will come there immediately," the stockbroker once more asked his location. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Rob looked around and felt like inviting the stockbroker here wouldn’t be appropriate. From his tone, it was clear to Rob that he had something important to discuss. But, Rob didn’t want to invite him over here. Rob was caught in a dilemma.
"Look, I am busy. Just tell me what it is. I will call back once I am free," Rob said finally.
Dacey looked over with a questioning gaze and Rob shook his head to indicate that it was nothing.
"No, Rob! We need to meet in person. I can’t tell this over the phone. This is really important. Did you check out today’s stocks?"
"No, I didn’t have the time," Rob lied blatantly. "But, I heard from Mr. Walker that IndiSoft’s stock has risen."
"Walker, that old fox," the stockbroker said agitatedly and muttered something unflattering under his breath. "Look, it is important we meet up as soon as possible. I will tell you all about it when we meet. But, we need to meet today."
Rob felt a headache coming. He didn’t want to miss this opportunity with Dacey. But, it looked like something huge had happened causing his stockbroker to be like this. He didn’t know what to do.
Just then Dacey mouthed that they both can go and meet him in a café nearby ending Rob’s dilemma.
"Look, here’s what we will do," Rob said nodding to Dacey. "I will give you a café address near my friend’s house. You can come over there and we can meet there. I can only spend one hour there. So, you better be prepared for it," Rob said a little warningly.
"One hour, one hour is enough. As long as we meet, I can tell you everything in twenty mins. Just text me the address. I will be there as soon as possible," the stockbroker said hurriedly.
"Ok, I will send you the address," Rob said a little reluctantly and cut the call.
Taking a deep breath, Rob recalled the details he had obtained so far. The government has passed a bill. It is good for emerging industries like computers. IndiSoft’s stock value has gone up and it was enough to get Mr. Walker happy. Mr. Walker was someone who has been dealing with stocks for long. So, small increases wouldn’t disturb his mind.
According to Mr. Walker, some financial group is looking to invest in IndiSoft as well. So, whatever the bill was it was really profitable to make a financial group move. It was so good that his stockbroker is behaving erratically. Everything will fall into place once he got his hands on a business newspaper.
"What happened?" Dacey asked in concern seeing him standing there thinking deeply.
"I don’t know. Something happened in the stock market. My stockbroker is going nuts and he wants to meet me immediately," Rob said a little helplessly.
"There is a café a few blocks away from here. We can meet him there," Dacey suggested causing Rob to nod.
"He better hope his news is worth it. Or else, I am going to fire his ass," Rob grumbled causing Dacey to smile. "I need to get my hands on a business newspaper as well. I can’t walk in there blind."
Rob got the café address from Dacey and texted it to his stockbroker. The reply was immediate and he promised to be there in half an hour. Rob knew that the man must be driving like a demon to rush here in such a short time. It showed Rob that the stockbroker was really worried about whatever he wanted to say.
Rob waited for Dacey to change her dress and they both exited the house in quick order. On the way to the café, Rob stopped by a newsstand and finally got his hands on the business newspaper. Deciding to pursue it at the café, Rob started the pickup and just moved a few paces, before his phone started to ring again.
Rob was surprised to see that this call was from Brent. Brent was supposed to be showing off his project to Mr. Walker at this moment, so receiving a call from him was a surprise to Rob.
"Hey, Brent, what’s up? Can you be a little quick? I am a little busy currently," Rob said picking the call up.
"Where are you?" Brent asked a little urgently.
"I am near Dacey’s home," Rob replied.
"Ok, can we meet somewhere? My uncle wants to meet with you urgently. He is at my office," Brent said a little anxiously.
"I know, he called me in the morning regarding IndiSoft stocks," Rob said casually. "However, he didn’t say anything about meeting up."
"He called you regarding IndiSoft’s stocks?" Brent asked a little hurriedly. "What did he tell?"
"Brent, calm down, he just called to thank me regarding it. Nothing more. Apparently, he too bought a few when I bought the stocks. So, he was thanking me," Rob said a little confusedly.
He didn’t know why Brent was getting a little worked up.
"Fine, fine, have you sold the stocks?" Brent asked curiously.
"No, why would I do that? I was planning to hold them for a long time," Rob said surprised by the question. "Why are you asking such a question?"
"Hasn’t your stockbroker contacted you already?" Brent asked a little confused.
"He is on his way to meet me," Rob replied a little hesitantly. He could feel that something was up with these stocks. "We are meeting at a café near Dacey’s place."
"Good, good, listen. Me and my uncle will come over there immediately. In the meantime, no matter what anyone says, don’t sell your stocks. Don’t agree to anything, ok?"
"Brent, can somebody tell me what’s up with these stocks? You guys are acting like I am hoarding a treasure," Rob asked a little irritatedly.
"Rob, right now, IndiSoft’s stocks are better than a treasure chest. Just hold on until me and my uncle come there. Don’t agree to anything anyone says," Brent said seriously causing Rob’s expression to change.
"Alright, I will do that. But, you better have a good explanation," Rob said agreeing to Brent’s request.
"I promise you that you will be satisfied. In the meantime, check out today’s newspaper. However, that is only half the stuff. I will explain the rest in person," Brent said hurriedly and cut the call.
Rob’s face had a weird look as he cut the call. Being near Rob, Dacey had also heard the conversation clearly. She too look a little confused with the way people were talking.
"You know what, let’s check out what this paper says first. I think it is high time I knew what the fuck is actually happening," Rob grumbled and opened the newspaper he had bought.
As he perused the newspaper, his face can’t help but change. Just looking at the value of IndiSoft’s stocks was enough to make his head reel from shock. Even if he was expecting IndiSoft to do well, he hadn’t been expecting such a huge change.
"What happened?" Dacey asked in concern seeing Rob’s shocked face.
"Look at this," Rob pointed out to IndiSoft’s stock prize.
"What am I supposed to look at?" Dacey asked in confusion. "I don’t understand any of this."
"That’s the company I bought my stocks on," Rob indicated IndiSoft’s name and jabbed at the nearby number, "That is the current stock price of their single stock."
"It is $57.43," Dacey read the number and looked up at Rob. "What was the price when you bought it?"
"$2.05," Rob said his voice hoarse.
"That’s a huge profit. How much stock did you buy?"
"I invested $30,000, all my savings, and bought their stock for all my money," Rob said agitatedly.
"So, you roughly have around 15,000 stocks?"
Even Dacey’s voice hitched a little when she asked that.
"14,685, to be precise," Rob mumbled softly.
"My God! If you sell this now, you can become a millionaire!!!" Dacey gasped unable to believe her words.
"Yeah, it looks so," Rob said a little faintly.
He now understood why his stocks were being discussed in such a manner. He can understand why his stockbroker was acting as he did. This was simply insane. He didn’t think much about the stocks he had brought after he saw their rise plateau after the initial rise after IndiSoft’s product launch.
Now suddenly, these stocks almost made him a millionaire overnight. This was freaking unbelievable for Rob, who had been living paycheck to paycheck until now.
While he expected IndiSoft to make it big in the future, he hadn’t even dreamed about becoming a millionaire overnight like this. This was the stuff of legends in his opinion. He had heard things like this happen to tech owners and startup entrepreneurs in news. But, had never expected it to happen to him.
The change in the situation was too unexpected for Rob. He had been thinking that IndiSoft would have a small rise in its stock price. But, who knew that things would be different? This was really inconceivable.
Within a day, IndiSoft’s stock price skyrocketed and ended up rising to an unimaginable level. The last time he checked, IndiSoft’s stock price was hovering around $10. Now, it was almost $60!
As Rob was reeling from the news, Dacey was a little flummoxed as well.
"Why did your friend tell you not to sell?" Dacey asked in confusion causing Rob’s elation to come to a halt. "I mean, I can see why your stockbroker wanted to meet with you urgently. He probably has a client lined up who is ready to buy. It makes sense. But, why is your friend telling you not to sell?"
"This is a chance at becoming a millionaire. It doesn’t happen often. People like us need to slog for our entire life, even then we can never become a millionaire. This is a very rare chance. So, why is your friend asking you that?"
"I don’t know," Rob said furrowing his brows. "But, I trust Brent more than my stockbroker. He said not to sell until he comes to meet with me. There may be more to this that we aren’t aware of."
"It’s good that I saw the paper now. If my stockbroker has sprung this upon me and asked me to sell, I don’t think I will be able to resist the thought of becoming a millionaire. I mean, who can?"
"Let’s first meet my stockbroker and see what he wants. And then wait for Brent and his uncle to come. We can decide after that," Rob said working things out in his mind.
"It’s your decision, Rob. I am just tagging along," Dacey said a little reservedly.
"Come on," Rob shook his head. "Even I didn’t wake up today dreaming that I will become a millionaire. Everything is new to me. I will need you there for moral support."
Dacey gave him a weak smile. Rob started the car and soon they reached the café where the meeting was set up. Walking into the café, Rob and Dacey found a nice, quiet corner and took their seats.
Rob ordered drinks for them and waited for his stockbroker to arrive. As they waited, they both tried to initiate a conversation multiple times. But, things never seemed to go more than two sentences as both of them were anxious about the upcoming meeting.
After ten grueling minutes of anxious waiting, Rob spied from the window and saw his stockbroker arrive in his car in a hurried manner. However, he wasn’t alone. There was another man in glasses who was walking with him
From his looks, Rob figured him out to be a stockbroker as well. He had the same mannerisms that Rob’s stockbroker had. And they both were chatting seriously about something.
Through the window, Rob saw them both talking animatedly about something. The man in glasses asked some questions to Rob’s stockbroker and Rob’s stockbroker hurriedly assured him of something. Only after that did the man smile and they both chuckled about something.
After a few minutes of talking with each other, Rob saw his stockbroker and the man walk into the café with confident struts, causing him to be a little curious about their last-minute discussion.
"Rob!"
Rob heard his stockbroker exclaim passionately and move towards him as if he was very familiar with Rob. The last time they saw each other, the man had given him cold shoulder after learning that he was only going to spend $30000 and was even planning to hold that.
To hear him greet him so familiarly caused Rob to raise his eyebrows.
