Breed Me, Daddy Alpha-Chapter 262
Was it an enemy pack? Was it rogues? Was it some psycho with a grudge against Damon? Or worse... was it someone inside the pack?
"Fuck," I blurted, and my hand instantly flew to my mouth like maybe I could stuff the word back in if I moved fast enough.
But it was too late, my brain-to-mouth filter had completely shut down. My chest tightened, and I turned to him with my heart hammering.
"Oh my gosh, Damon... I am so sorry. It looks horrible. I mean, it doesn’t just look like a house that caught fire. It looks like someone took every good memory you ever had in there and decided to burn it just to hurt you. And I don’t even know what to say because this is—this is awful."
I reached out and touched his arm before I even realized I was moving. "Please tell me you’re okay. Or, well, I know you’re not okay, but tell me you’re not about to break the steering wheel in half or shift right here in the driver’s seat because I’m not ready to explain to anyone why their Alpha is naked behind the wheel before we even make it to the front door."
"I am fine, kitten. That is why we are here, right? To find out who did it. And when I do, it will not be funny. It will not be quick. It will not be something they can walk away from and tell stories about. It will be the last thing they ever remember."
"I do not care if it was one person or an entire pack. I will make them all pay. Every single one of them. I will burn down everything they have ever loved, just like they tried to do to me. I will make sure their last breath tastes like ash, and they will know it was me who gave it to them."
We finally pulled up to the front of what I assumed was the main entrance of the compound, and Damon slid the car smoothly into park.
I was still holding on to my seatbelt like it was some kind of emotional support device, trying to convince myself to breathe normally and act like I belonged here and then a woman came striding out toward the car with the kind of presence that made it impossible to look anywhere else.
She reached Damon and gave him a bright smile that looked warm enough to melt ice, and then she said, "Hey, little brother. Good to have you here."
Little brother? Like My Alpha? Little brother? That sounded so freaking weird.
My thoughts instantly started tripping over themselves because what did she just call him? Since when did Damon have a sister? Why had this never come up before?
We have talked about so many things and not once did he think to mention that somewhere in this giant, secretive wolf family of his, there was a sister who clearly knew him well enough to greet him like this was routine.
And if he had a sister, did that mean there were more siblings? Brothers? Cousins? A whole family tree full of intimidatingly good-looking relatives who were just waiting to meet me and judge me? Was this something he had deliberately kept from me so I would not overthink it? Because spoiler alert: I am overthinking it now.
She finally turned her attention toward me, and the smile shifted into something more curious. It was not unfriendly, but it also was not the instant warmth she had shown Damon.
It was the kind of look people give when they are trying to decide exactly how much of a threat you are.
"Hi. Who are you?" she asked. Her voice was perfectly polite, but I could not tell if she was actually interested in the answer or just asking because it was the socially acceptable thing to do.
I opened my mouth, ready to say my name and something neat and simple that would make me sound put-together, but before I could get a single word out, her gaze shifted past me toward the car that had just pulled in behind us.
The second car door opened, and Tasha stepped out. She moved slowly, her shoulders slightly hunched, her face still pale from everything that had happened earlier.
I barely had time to register the fact that the woman’s eyes had landed on her before her entire expression changed.
Her brows drew together so sharply it looked painful, her smile vanished completely, and her voice when she spoke again was sharp enough to cut the air in half. "What is your stupid daughter doing here, Damon?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
I froze. I could actually feel my brain short-circuiting at the words. Stupid daughter? Did I hear that right? Was she seriously talking about Tasha? And she said it right in front of her like it was nothing.
"Hi, Aunt Lilian," Tasha said softly, her voice small in a way I had never heard before.
Okay. Wait. Hold on. Aunt Lilian? What just happened? I was sitting there buckled in, staring between them like I had accidentally walked into the wrong family reunion.
My brain was ping-ponging between Damon has a sister? and Tasha just called her aunt? and Why does Aunt Lilian hate Tasha enough to call her stupid to her face in the first thirty seconds?
I was officially, completely, utterly confused.
