Chapter 13: Mother of the tribe

I am pregnant, Mira paced through the room. This body is pregnant, she thought, alarm. I have never been pregnant before. But now I am.

[You do know that’s the whole point of mating, right host?]

Mira panicked. She did not know anything about pregnancy or beast babies. Were they more massive than human babies during labour? How many months would a fox and lion’s child take to be delivered?

How painful is labour? Could she die from it? How many cubs will she push out of her vagina??? Animals have this thing of birthing multiple babies AT THE SAME TIME!!

Would she be able to have sex immediately after labour?

She did not know. No one let the old Mira near pregnant beast women or babies so there was no memory of anything about how the pregnancy process is. Mira was utterly clueless but Jia Hao was happy. Way too happy.

Of course he was happy. He wasn’t the one who will push out giant baby cubs out of a little hole. Oh, her poor pussy. Why did she do this to her? Her pussy must be so scared.

"Meat lady!" Chimed in the room interrupting Mira’s thoughts. Mira turned to see a cub burst through the fur curtain. He hugged her. Marr.

If he came a little later last night after he was pursued, Jia Hao might not have filled her with his seed and she may not be pregnant.

But she would’ve dead.

"Apparently, I will soon have a meat baby." Mira chorused, stroking his hair.

Marr gasped, eyes brightened. "So that’s what you two were doing. Baby making! I wondered what that sound was."

Mira froze. Are cubs allowed to know where they came from? How cautious should her words be around a lion baby? He’s a child. Mira pat his head gently. "You shouldn’t concern yourself with such." She said, the safest thing she could think of.

Marr squeezed her legs tightly, hugging like he was addicted to the feel of her body. "Our king has requested your presence. He sent me to you."

And Marr waited that long to tell me that, now? Mira thought. "Why did he send you, kiddo?"

"Because I’m the nonthreatening one out of the pride to you." Marr voiced. Well, he was right.

"Lead the way."

Marr led and Mira followed behind him. Jia Hao was in front of a crowd. People Mira recognised to be members of the pride. This seemed scary. Why was she summoned all of a sudden?

Did they want to eat her? She thought they knew she did not harm Marr.

And she did not bewitch and seduce their king into filling her with his heirs. It was a hundred percent consensual.

"Darling." Jia Hao called as he stretched his hand to reach her. Mira gulped, wading through the crowd. These people did not like her and she knew. She was trying so hard to fight her nerves.

"Jia Hao." Mira worded, now by his side. He put his hand on her waist and pulled her to him in a gentle tug. Mira yelped.

Everyone was dead silent. The men who aided in the fire were there too, before her. So many men and a few women.

"We want to thank you for sacrificing your safety to protect our young, demon of the forest." One of the women said.

So. . . I was their hero? Why not drop the ’demon’ tag then? Mira pouted.

"I mean, our king’s mate." The woman corrected immediately. She did that on purpose and Mira knew but she wasn’t going to point that out.

"We, the members of the Lion clan are thankful. And we want to show our deepest gratitude."

Everyone in the crowd bowed their heads in unison. Mira blinked. They all chorused a sentence. "Forgive our maltreatment and accept our gratitude."

This stunned her. All she did was save a cub.

[You do realise that this world is close to extinction, right? You saved a future breeder.]

Well, she would rather not think of young Marr that way.

"It’s fine. Really. I’m glad I could be of help." Mira said.

They still had their heads bowed. Mira stared in confusion. Was she missing something?

Now she bowed too and knelt. "I HAVE ACCEPTED YOUR GRATITUDE." She yelled, her hands stretched beyond her face and her head to the ground.

Mira heard a chuckle. She tilted her head up to look. Jia Hao bent to reach her head level. "You’re not supposed to do that." He uttered.

Oh.

He raised her up. "Your eagerness is cute." He teased, laughing under his breath. Jia Hao cleared his throat, his hand firmly placed on Mira’s waist.

"This is my mate and you all will treat her as such. No more cursed words or names to refer to her. We will devote our time to her like she is our own. Because she is." Jia Hao sounded commanding. Dominant. Stern. Way different than how he did when he related with her. Of recent, that is.

"Yes, our king!" The crowd chorused.

This seemed like a cult. Mira was not sure if she should be glad for this or afraid. On the bright side, no one wanted to eat her.

"Another thing you need to know." Jia Hao continued. "Mira Yang, my mate, is bearing my cub."

Murmurs rose. Mira caught a few of their words before Jia Hao ordered a silence. Some expressed shock. Some were delighted. And some finally understood the late night disturbance. Was she that loud?

Did everyone really hear what she sounded like being fucked? This seemed more embarrassing than dying from the anticipation of being fucked. Mira could not help but wonder if she sounded nice. She hoped she did.

"Be sure to be gentle with the mother of our tribe." Jia Hao said.

"Long live the king. All hail the mother of our tribe!" They chorused, now raising their torsos and bowing again continuously repeating the same words with every bow.

"Mother of your tribe? Jia Hao, you mated with this maggot?! We had a pact not to." Broke the cheer. The voice filled with hatred made the environment tense.

The entire pride trailed their attention to where the voice came from. Standing in the heart of Jia Hao’s home away from the crowd was someone Mira knew too well. Ming Tao. Her husband. And he did not look happy at all.
