Breeding System:My Five Beast Husbands Want Heirs-Chapter 8: Wounded
"YOU!" Was the first thing that left Jia Hao’s lips as his canines sunk into her shoulder, pulling her through the woods with so much force she thought her body would crumble.
Mira stumbled across the ground, her body landing on a tree. A scream left her lips. She was bleeding from her shoulder. That hurt like a karen bitch.
"Jia Hao, wait." She gasped, her head heavy.
[Warning! Host’s physical health altered. Use 1000 system points to purchase healing elixir before physical damages gets terrible.] Flashed before Mira but her brain was processing things slowly.
"I warned you. I said if you dared lay a hand on even a member of the pride land that I would kill you, yet you did you!" Jia Hao roared. He looked like he wanted to murder her.
"Jia Hao, I didn’t. . . ." Pain shot through her shoulder, halting her speech. Her entire body felt like she was hit by a truck. "I saved him. He ran into the fire."
"A fire you caused? Do you think me foolish?!"
[Warning! Warning! Lion King Jia Hao’s rage is at 100%. Host is in danger.]
"Yeah, no shit, system." Mira cursed under her breath. It was no wonder Jia Hao thought she started the fire. She asked for it and why else would there be a fire outbreak away from the pride with just she and a lion cub? And the cub was nearly unconscious.
"I swear. I was trying to get on your good side, why will I start a fire?"
"YOU TELL ME!" He charged. "I let you back into my home. Had you fed. And once again, Mira you have decided to be you."
Be me? I did not do anything but he wouldn’t believe me, Mira thought.
"It’s her!"
"The witch of the forest."
"That demon tried to harm Marr. Poor Marr."
"How did they leave the pride without anyone knowing?"
"She must’ve done something."
"Take Marr for urgent attention."
The voices echoed like a blur in her ears. Everyone thought she did this too.
"I should kill you." Jia Hao raged. His hand folded into a fist. "Leave and never come back, Mira. And I swear, if anything worse happens to Marr, I will hunt you myself."
So he was letting her go? Does this mean a part of him still cared?
"Jia Hao." Mira struggled to lift her body up the ground. "I wouldn’t have done anything to a lion cub." She groaned breathlessly.
Jia Hao shifted into his beast. It seemed like whatever she said would fuel him into changing his decision to let her leave alive.
I guess I can kiss winning his heart and carrying his cubs goodbye, she thought to herself. She already died once, guess second time would be a charm.
"I’ll go. Thank you for your hospitality." She breath. Her chest ached and her head was a mess. She needed help. Mira walked down the path away from the pride land, her steps slowed.
"How far away is the pride from my other husband’s home, system?"
[Way too far to walk it by foot in this state.]
"Can I have a change of task, system?" Her voice slowed. She coughed harder. The wound on her shoulder was unbearable and her body felt like it was on fire. The brute force Jia Hao used to toss her against that tree was enough to break the spine of a human being. It’s a marvel she survived that after that explosion. Mira had gotten a good distance away from the pride now.
[Sorry, host, no!]
"Purchase healing elixir with-" Mira called when something struck her like a hurricane, making her balance on the ground weaken. A scream tore out her mouth as she fell.
"Not so high and mighty without the Lion King backing you up, now, huh?"
That voice. . . . It was familiar.
Mira lifted her head up to face the bearer. Patricia. The lion lady. The oil. The fire. It all made sense. To think she risked the life of one of her own to get back at her was insane.
"Have you no shame, Patricia?" Mira managed to blurt.
Patricia chuckled. "Me? No shame? I have guarded and protected the pride all my life since I could defend myself and then there was you. The good for nothing ’royal’ demon who happened to be worthy to be our king’s mate."
. . .
"And you have hurt him more than once, but Jia Hao is too blinded by some stupid love that he takes it!" Patricia continued.
Mira almost laughed. Love? That word did not exist between the two of them.
"He even let you walk. He has never let a trespasser go free, talk less of someone who harmed a pride member!" Patricia was circling Mira. "But the era of you torturing him comes to an end, demon."
Mira felt it. Crippling through her skin like a bad cold. Fear. Her body hair stood as the lioness charged towards her, claws in the air and mouth wide open ready to devour.
Her eyes came shut and her head blanked. For a second, Mira wondered what it would be like to not be hated. And. . . It felt. . . Nice.
A roar broke through, the tension in the atmosphere shifting. Mira snuck a peak. The surrounding was like a battle was happening but somehow, she was not affected.
Mira’s eyes widened at what was before her. Jia Hao, in his full beast form, looking like a proper predator with the intention to butcher was in front of her, taking Patricia head on. And she was losing.
What was happening?
[It seems like your beastman has come to his senses and is protecting you, host.]
"She almost killed Marr and you still protect her!" Patricia hissed.
"She did not harm Marr. You did." Jia Hao’s voice was full of venom. Mira’s heart was racing. What changed? First he sent her out and now he’s showing up like some knight in shining armour. Patricia looked scared and she shifted back into her human form. Her face was bowed down to earth as she knelt.
Mira’s blood spilled all over, her vision getting obscured. They said something. More pride members gathered cornering Patricia. The last thing Mira witnessed in the dark night was Jia Hao’s mighty form closing in on her weakened state before passing out.
