Chapter 288: What Are You Going To Do?

—-

"Are you sure this will work?" Carmela worriedly questioned Marius as he sat down on his armchair, his leg crossing the other, whilst he played with a green crystal, as though it was an invaluable toy. His silence for the past few hours was starting to give Carmela the creep, and she watched as he kept tossing the crystal in the air only to catch it back in his grip.

His obsidian eyes reflected a slight hint of displeasure, and then he stopped.

"She will have no heart." He repeated with no warmth in his voice. Pausing for a moment, he leaned back on the chair and continued, "in order to have her wrapped around my fingers, she needs to lose the ability to feel things. Great power comes when there is nothing to feel sorry for, and she... well her heart has been exposed to too many emotions. We need to make her stop, and to accomplish that, she’ll need to feel the negativity of having emotions that she will wish not to feel them any longer, and when that happens... her heart will stop... beating, replaced by an empty void." Marius’s lips curved deviously, but Carmela still felt a bit unsettled by the idea of making her numb to emotions.

"What about your uncle? Did he come as planned?" Marius asked as he poured himself a glass of liquor, and Carmela nodded in satisfaction, whilst she folded her arms.

"He should be in the chamber with her already. After the little visit from Alistair, I felt it was time to set her up with my uncle, in the hopes that she channels her anguish towards killing him." She admitted, "I want that man dead, he’s first on my list, and if she succeeds in getting rid of him, I will use her to end the bloodline of my relatives’ generation."

"Then so shall it be, Carmela." He smirked and took a sip of colorless drink.

"But even so, Your Majesty, why do we have to make her lose the ability to feel? The vampire King must be seeking our land already and we don’t have that amount of time to groom her heart into stone." Carmela voiced her discontent, "you can get inside her head, can’t you? You own the Orb so that makes you her Master, you can make her listen to your wishes so why do we have to start with baby steps?"

"You lack patience, Carmela." Marius rubbed his temples to ease off the headache this woman was deliberately causing him, "she’s no longer an Orb, an Orb is a round object with many divine powers tainted by my deeds. An Orb has no heart, neither does it have the ability to feel. However, that Orb is now human, it no longer recognizes me as the master, so I have to start all over. I have to make her lose her heart if I want to unleash the darkness inside of her."

This wasn’t his initial idea from the beginning, cause he also believed he had control over the woman and Orb as long as she was nowhere near the vampire King. When he summoned her to meet him in the forest, his control over her did not last– she had somehow managed to break through his compelling charm’s, so in order to avoid such mistakes in the future, he had to do this. It troubled him that he was going to make his Sierra suffer, but in order to fully claim her, he had to do this, and when she’s finally under his control again, they will take over the world together, just as it should have been centuries ago.

"Are you listening to me?" Carmela’s voice snapped the demon out of his thoughts, and he stopped playing with the crystal and rose to his feet. He walked towards Carmela whose hazel eyes gleamed with uncertainty, and he dropped a kiss on her forehead.

"Everything will be fine." He reassured her, "the vampire King must have figured out our location by now, I would be disappointed if he hasn’t, but finding this fortress would be nearly impossible for him and his clan, even for someone who possesses his type of power. So relax, and allow me to handle this."

He smoothed her hair, "you should use this distraction to your advantage, and get that boy. We slowed down the blood moon for this reason, and I’m afraid if you don’t act fast, the blood moon will break through our restraints and start moving, anytime soon." Leaving her with the little piece of vital information, Marius walked past her and exited the chamber.

Carmela’s neck strained a little, and Marius’s reminder concerning the little boy, also reminded her that she had a list of concoctions that needed to be made, and more slaughtering rituals to be performed. The children’s blood certainly won’t be enough for everyone, but first, she was going to earn the trust of her people.

In the ’other chamber’ a petrified gasp tore from Samantha’s lips when the stranger walked in, and she immediately rose to her feet as he shut the door behind him, locking it himself. The man, towering and burly, exuded an aura of intimidation, whilst his presence sent warning signals into her head. His broad shoulders strained against the fabric of his worn-out jacket, and his grizzled beard framed a face that was marked by the harshness of life.

"....!!!!"

Samantha recoiled alarmingly, her eyes, which were swollen from tears, were cautiously fixed on the imposing figure. The man’s piercing gaze seemed to cut through the dimness, and as he stepped closer, the weight of his presence hung heavily in the air, leaving Samantha to grapple with the uncertainty of her confinement.

"Stay back!" She said immediately, but the man simply eyed her from head to toe, as if he was checking out a valuable item in order to figure out if he spent his money on something that turned out to be worth it. When his niece informed him that she had her hands on something he would like, he assumed she was bluffing, but sensing the divine energy the woman standing before him possessed, he knew now that his useless niece turned out to be of some use after all.

"I said don’t come close!" Samantha’s voice rang out loudly, but due to her chained hands, she was almost defenseless. She had struggled countless times to free her hands from this burden, but they only afflicted her with injuries.

When the man smiled upon sensing her helplessness, Samantha moved quickly and tried to grab a vase on the table, but the man was quicker as he had reached her side in due time. He snatched the vase from her, and in a rough manner, grabbed Samantha’s wrist and dragged her towards the bed till she was lying down flat on it.

"Stop!! Let go! What do you want from me??" Samantha struggled regardless of how futile she knew it’d turned out to be. She kicked her legs and tried to wrestle with the burly man, like a squirrel trying to face off a panda. However, he had her hands trapped above her head and was hovering on top of her, threateningly keeping her in place.

"You’re a tough one, ain’t yah?" He said, whilst his voice carried an unfamiliar accent that made Samantha’s heart race in fear. His leering eyes as he studied her face only made Samantha’s stomach churn in disgust, and that filled her appetite.

"Release me." She warned, despite the fear in her heart at the thought that he might do the complete opposite, "I said let go of me!" freewebnøvel.coɱ

"You come to my niece’s castle and think you got enough rights to order me? Face it, your kind are weak! Defenseless in the arms of men. What are you going to do? Huh? Hit me?" He mocked, an irritable, challenging smile dawning his lips, and Samantha barely knew how she summoned the courage to do it, but she spat at the man’s ugly face, her anger taking over her fear as she seethed.

"Let me go!"

"You fucking asshole!" Fumed by her audacity to spit at his face, he raised his hand to hit her across her delicate face, ready to teach her some manners, and Samantha instinctively looked away, expecting the harsh pain to land on her cheek. However, the man froze in his attempts when a shadow loomed behind him, and it grew bigger, and taller the more he gazed at the shadow that swallowed him whole.

When the man turned around to see what was behind him, he was instantly gobbled up by Samantha’s pet plant.
