Chapter 293: Blessing In Disguise

Marius tilted his head slightly to the side, almost intimidatingly, and the smile on his lips lingered longer, as if he was enjoying the reaction his unexpected presence had brought. His eyes darted between the guards who appeared confused by his unfamiliarity, but their swords were brandished, their stance poise, already taking formation incase he strikes, but the vampire they were trying to protect willingly stepped forward, away from their protective stance, and his pupils darkened with each stride he took towards Marius.

However, Marius suddenly snapped his fingers, and to everyone’s greatest shock, little Alain materialized before him, and that did the job of making Ivan halt in his gait. His eyes lowered to the little boy who was now in Marius’s captive hold, and a look of apprehension dawned on Ivan’s face as he met the smiling ones of Marius.

"Still dare to come forward?" Marius asked, his voice laced with a mockery challenge, and Ivan’s fist balled at his side, his veins popping in restraint as he tried to stay calm. His gaze shifted to the little boy who was struggling to free himself from Marius’s clutches, but Marius held him close, his hands on the boy’s chin. Although his hold wasn’t harsh, there was a warning that pointed at Alain’s death if anyone tried to come forward.

"So nice to finally meet the son of the great Chevalier." Marius began, as if he was introducing himself to a long lost friend. "Your Father was not an ordinary vampire, to say the least. He was benevolent, a trait rare to your kind, that is what I knew of him before I made him take his own life." His lips curled into a lopsided grin, and Ivan’s jaw clenched in anger, a vein popped at the side of his neck, showcasing the effort he was putting into stopping himself from doing anything.

Soon after, Madeline and Cassian came running from the Palace, bursting through the door, and their faces paled drastically upon seeing their son in the hands of an unfamiliar stranger. They had been with their son in the chamber, as it was best to stay indoors considering the crisis that had befallen Ivan and his Kingdom. They didn’t wish to interfere and make matters worse, but while they pondered on how risky it would be for Ivan to leave by himself, their son, who was sitting on the bed, drawing on as usual on his book, suddenly vanished before their very eyes.

Panic struck them both at the same time, and they had come down to report what happened only to see their little boy in the hands of someone they barely recognize. Their son’s chin was firmly held in the man’s grasp, and she could see her son’s eyes water in fear.

"Mama!" Alain cried out when he spotted his Mother and Father, but before Madeline could do anything, Ivan was quick to stop her by raising his hand. He sensed her growing panic, the adrenaline rushing through her veins at the cries of her son, and that could lead her into making a mistake, which was exactly what Marius wanted.

"Don’t do anything." He advised, "he’ll kill your son if you go up to him."

"Who are you??" Abdiel, who was familiar with the name mentioned, but still unable to believe it, decided to question Marius himself. According to the history book, the Demon of manipulation, who was named Marius, had died during the last brutal blood war. His death was detailed in the script his antecedents left behind, filling his head with knowledge concerning the past, and from what he read; the only way the soul of a Demon could come back to Earth as a being was if someone had resurrected it.

When the theories in his head began to fit into place like solved puzzles, Abdiel’s face paled at the monstrosity that had visited his Palace. With a face so harmless, his deeds from the past clearly said otherwise. Abdiel barely knew the kind of reaction to give, and he knew, from what he felt, that it would not be easy to get rid of the demon standing in front of them.

"I’m more than a century-year-old, Abdiel." Marius replied, "you possibly don’t know me, but surely, I’m as famous as your nephew." Marius’s gaze returned to Ivan who stayed put, but his eyes burned with fury, one that Marius couldn’t help but feel excited to unleash. For the first time, Marius was willing to admit that he had met someone who was worth picking on, and not to mention, but his aura was frighteningly terrifying, as if he was restraining a thousand beast inside of him, whilst Marius knew immediately that he had met his match.

No wonder His Sierra fell in love with him.

"Where is Samantha?" Ivan demanded once more, but Marius softly tsked and said,

"She’s happy with me now, so you don’t have to come searching for what’s already lost." Answered Marius, "I promise to take good care of her from now on, seeing as you took over my responsibility for a short amount of time. What you should be most concerned about is your precious Kingdom, cause I am here to fulfill the reason behind why I was brought here."

"Let go of my son!!" Madeline nearly barked at him, her body shaking slightly as she tried to gain her resolve, but it wasn’t out of fear, but of rage. Seeing her son’s helpless state only stabbed her worried heart to the extent she wanted to unleash her powers and get rid of that being, but each time she gets reminded that he threateningly had his hands on her son’s chin so he could snap it off in one move, it made her keep still, as she could not lose her only child like this.

"Letting go of your son will be impossible, unless you can come save him." Marius insisted as he took a step back with the child, and Madeline was propelled forward as he constantly backed away with her child. Marius’s gaze moved to Cassian who had the same expression on his face like his wife, and he couldn’t help but taunt.

"Did you really think you were summoned here for absolutely nothing?" He let out a peal of laughter and said, "the portal that brought you here came from me. However, I never wanted you both as you are useless to me. I brought you here cause I needed the special energy from your precious boy here. Hmm? You’re quite a smart detective from where you come from, how about fixing the puzzles with the clue I just gave?"

"Do I look like a free ticket for your amusement?" Inquired Cassian who was beginning to step forward as well, his eye color switching into the crimson-red that defined his powers, but just like Ivan, he was forced to stop when Marius threatened him with his son. Basically, no one was able to act as he had little Alain in his clutches, and Ivan already promised he wouldn’t let anything happen to that boy– his little lamb fancied the boy quite much.

At the tallest tower, Tobias and Duncan watched silently as the trouble unfolded below.

"So that’s Marius." Duncan hummed in realization, his eyes studying the demon who seemed to be having his own fun keeping Ivan at bay.

"Forgive me for interrupting whatever conversation you two might be having but I never informed you both of this so you can just watch as if some theater is being displayed down there." Panicked Lucy, "that man is holding Alain captive and is threatening the kingdom! We have to do something to help them or else we’ll all perish and be sent to hell!"

"Going down there won’t do anything," Tobias answered, sounding disappointed by the thought himself, "his aura is..."

"Rebellious? Spartan?" Duncan simply guessed, but he wasn’t surprised. From what he already knew, Marius had continuously fed his powers through people’s emotions. He controlled their mind, influenced their perspective, and if care wasn’t taken, he was likely to do the same thing to Ivan and everyone down there. He was that sneaky to the point when one finally realized what they had gotten themselves into, it would be too late.

"His presence can be a blessing in disguise." Murmured Duncan as his eyes shook, but his words were loud enough for Lucy and Tobias to grasp.

They gazed at him confusedly as he brought out a mysterious compass from inside his loose sleeves. The room seemed to shiver as he carefully opened the intricate lid, revealing a tiny, pulsating chip nestled inside.

With the aid of his telekinesis, he lifted the tiny chip and carefully directed it towards Marius below. It was a microscopic chip that even Marius failed to notice, and that made it easier for Duncan to slip the chip into the pocket of his cloak.

"What did you do?" Questioned Tobias as he watched quietly.

"That’s an enchanted chip," he explained, "once affixed to someone, their every move becomes a dance for the compass."
