Bride To His Darkness-Chapter 298: Implications Of The Prophecy
Chapter 298: Implications Of The Prophecy
As night descended, Samantha took her seat on a wooden bench that was situated just outside the elderly elf’s home. The night sky sparkled with stars, and the distant laughter of elves filled the air, echoing through the enchanted glade– it made Samantha wonder if other places in the southern Kingdom were this welcoming... or was it just them? Being here and receiving such conviviality from the elven clan, she wouldn’t want a war to break in and destroy the happiness that had been built here.
In front of her, the quaint cobblestone path bustled with elfin activities. Some elves strolled by, wrapped in richly colored cloaks that billowed in the wind. A few paused to exchange warm greetings– some were couples, others were childrens and teens who had approached her nicely, curious to know about where she came from, or if she was a fairy that had visited their little village to bless them. They waved her goodbye when Elara and Brian approached from a corner, and with them was a wise elder dressed in white robe, whilst his long white beards flowed like waterfall down to his knee.
From his appearance, Samantha knew he had to be someone of great speciality in the elven clan.
"Here, have this." Elara handed Samantha a steaming mug, its aroma a comforting blend of herbal and spice. "It’s a traditional elven brew to ward off the chill, you will feel better afterwards." She said with a twinkle in her eyes, subtly taking note of how the girl shivered slightly in the depths of her cloak.
Accepting the mug with a hearty thank you, Samantha took a big sip, the warmth of the beverage seeping into her cool bone. She felt more relaxed than before, and her shoulders eased as the herbal tea did its magic.
"This is delightful!" Samantha complimented, and when her gaze drifted to the old elf man who watched her whimsically, she quickly rose from her seat and lowered her head in a polite bow. She had been tranced by the beverage that she forgot her manners. freewebnσvel.cøm
"Greetings!" She greeted the elderly man who acknowledged her being with a curt nod.
"Let us all have our seats." Elara gestured towards the vacant bench, beckoning everyone to take their seat which they did. Sitting at the other bench with the elder elf, Brian was made to sit with Samantha, and although his mind knew that his actions were inappropriate, he couldn’t resist stealing glances her way. The thought of her already married was a constant reminder that made him know where his limits lied– although, a Fae and a vampire? This is the first time he’s hearing of such a union.
"This is the chief of our Clan." Elara introduced the beard elf to Samantha, "you are free to say or ask whatever is needed from him. From what you told us concerning Queen Carmela, the abduction on her part had been an assumption, but after listening to the story from your side, it is clear that Carmela intends on feeding the blood of innocent lives to the people. Brian here had confirmed it before, but we did not believe him until now." Elara’s eyes held a hint of regret and remorse, and Samantha had stopped drinking the beverage.
"Feeding blood? What do you mean she’s feeding the blood of innocent lives? I don’t understand." Samantha happened to grasp the vague meaning behind that phrase, but she didn’t want to believe such a disgusting act was happening right under the people’s noses. Brian leaned back, arms crossed, and he pursed his lips before explaining,
"As you know everyone has their respective coven in the south, but we listen to one Queen, as she is the most powerful of us all, her family background gave her that significant lineage. I worked in the Palace, servicing Carmela through her needs and ensuring her protection was met, as it was my duty. She painted your Kingdom quite terribly in the eyes of society. I can promise you that If you venture into another land, you won’t be so lucky to step out of it alive. That is how repulsed the Southerners are with the North."
Samantha glanced at him with slightly raised eyes, and the beard elf man snapped his fingers, only to have a scroll materialize in his grip. He had been quiet all through, and his wrinkled hollow eyes had been studying her cautiously, whilst it made Samantha feel slightly uncomfortable. When he unfurled the scroll, he went through it before lifting his head to meet Samantha’s nervous, clueless gaze, and he appeared to be searching for something in her eyes. He glanced at Elara, and the elderly elf seemed to understand the words of his eyes, because she was rising up the next minute.
"We will be back." Elara assured Samantha before leaving with the chief Elf. When they had gone, Samantha glanced at the elf man beside her, and she couldn’t help but ask.
"Elara once told me your Queen abandoned your clan." She began a conversation, as it bothered her to know why she would take such measures, "what really happened? Your clan are such nice, wonderful people, I feel it is undeserving that you have to remain in a secluded place, away from everyone else." Samantha knew her opinion was obviously not needed, this wasn’t her place, but that didn’t stop her from pouring her thoughts out, regardless of what her conscience told her.
"It is unusual to witness someone from the North show this much compassion to an enemy." Brian noted audibly, "especially the Queen herself. You have nothing to show that clears my doubt on you being royalty, how should we believe that you are not lying to us? And how should I believe that you’re not someone sent by the King of the North to spy on us and gather the necessary information he needs?"
"Your wariness towards my advances are understandable...but, if you suspected I had ill-motives towards your people, you wouldn’t have helped me when I asked for one." Samantha half-smiled before turning her head away. She looked at her delicate wrist, and the bracelet given to her still adorned them. "This heirloom belongs to my family, but from my Mother-in-laws side. My husband made sure I was given something his late Mother owned during our wedding, and I haven’t taken them off since then. This, and the necklace you see on my neck are the only jewelry I consider more valuable than the royal ones, because they came from my husband."
"So this isn’t a political marriage?" Brian wasn’t sure why he sounded surprised, and when she nodded with a smile that defined pure love, he felt slightly jealous, but at the same time, glad to know that there are people out there who don’t follow the regular bullshit of Kingdom politics.
"My husband is not a bad person. I don’t want another world domination war to repeat itself, so you have to tell me what I need to know, and when I return, I can speak with my husband, and we can find another method to settle this dispute. But first, why is Carmela casting your clan out of her Kingdom?" Her voice was pleasingly firm, and her tone displayed the genuity he had been waiting to hear.
Brian’s eyes flickered with certainty, as if he knew he could trust her– his gut told him so. He sighed in defeat and averted his gaze from her, and he was staring at the night sky that glittered with many stars. There was something inimical about his gaze, and then he exhaled, his breath visible in the night’s crisp air.
Meanwhile, Elara and the Chief Elf had stepped into Elara’s abode, keeping away from earshot. He unfurled the scroll for Elara to read herself, and when her eyes tremor through the words of prophecy written below, her expression paled after coming to the cruel conclusion. She lifted her bewildered gaze to look at the chief Elf who nodded somberly.
"Are you implying she must die to end the prophecy?" Elara couldn’t help but ask.
