Chapter 324: Turn It Off

—-

"Let go of me! I said let go of me!" Samantha forced her sore arm free from Marius’s grip, refusing to move further away from the candle-lit corridor he was presently dragging her through. Her fears had been overshadowed by her own anger, and she reacted violently, but gazing at Marius, he seemed more stunned than her.

When he took a step towards her, Samantha took a hesitant step back, her breath leaving her lips with a trembling gasp.

"You’re in no position to make such commands. A dog can bark at its master, but it should never bite off the hands that fed it. Come with me." Grabbing her arm without considering the pain he was putting her through, he led her down the staircase to the grand hall.

When they arrived at the center of the hall, he let go of her delicate arm, but Samantha hadn’t regained her stamina in time and stumbled to the tiled floor.

Controlling her breathing, Samantha pushed herself up into a sitting position. Her eyes scanned the hall she had been brought into, whilst she recognized it, except it wasn’t crowded like the last time they had brought her here, as if to auction her away. The only sound her ears could grasp was the approaching steps of Marius’s footfalls, and she could see his black polished shoe before her eyes.

"Why do you keep trying to make matters worse for yourself?" He tilted his head at her, "you have no control here. You cannot lead, and most importantly, you have a weak persona. You should be grateful to me, you should bow your head and serve me, cause I’m the only one capable of unleashing the strength that resides inside of you. Hmmm?"

His eyes crinkled at her lack of response, and he gave her head a pat, one that made her recoil from his creepy touch. He exasperated with a sigh, his thumb and index finger pinching in-between his eyebrows as a sign of him restraining his frustration. He knew beforehand that her reaction wouldn’t be any less, but he couldn’t wait to finally gain full authority over her, and only when he’s done that, she won’t have the audacity to avoid his touch.

"Look over there for a moment will you?" Crouching before her with his lips curved slyly, he pointed at a corner, whilst directing her eyes in that direction. When Samantha followed his finger, her heart skipped for a second, and her pupils dilated at the presence of Alain. His brown eyes were presently gazing at her with the same reaction, and she could hear him gasp softly.

"Alain?" The relief in her voice was short-lived when she saw Carmela standing beside Alain, and in her hand was a knife she toyed with. Her other free hand held onto Alain, strictly keeping him at her side, but he forcefully tried to free himself from Carmela’s clutches so he could run to Samantha. However, it wasn’t as easy as he pictured it because he was forced to stay still when Carmela placed the knife on his throat, and he could hear Samantha scream ’NO!!’ in urgency.

"What are you doing??" Samantha immediately questioned Carmela who enjoyed gazing at the horror in her eyes. She had her arms stretched out, but they were too weak to summon her powers. Her eyes were pooled with tears, and to think she could raise a knife to the throat of a little boy only grew a different kind of hatred Samantha had never felt before.

If she had a chance she would kill this woman herself!!!

"Let him go, he’s just a child! What does he have to do with any of this?!" She demanded in a raised voice, but what she got instead was a chuckle that echoed within the hall. Carmela couldn’t help but find the situation funny, she had not expected to enjoy this scenario this much!

"Stop resisting, that’s what we want." Marius responded with his hand curling up on her chin. He turned her face in his direction and casually asserted, "Don’t make this any more difficult for yourself than it already is, cause you won’t be able to survive the heartache and regrets it will bring. You can end this, all you have to do is stop resisting. Give in to my call."

Suddenly, an intense pain gripped Samantha’s skull, forcing a slight whimpering sound from her, and the fear that clouded her eyes afterwards was enough to spell out that she knew what was about to happen. She clutched her head when the headache surged, a torrent of agony that threatened to unravel her sanity, and she didn’t dare scream. She couldn’t afford to let her cries be heard again, but her body shook uncontrollably from the restraint.

Amidst the throbbing headache, haunting whispers that seemed to emanate from the depths of the abyss snaked through her consciousness. The chants grew louder even at her futile resistance, an insidious symphony that threatened to drown out her thoughts.

"Don’t fight it." He whispered close to her ear, "or I’ll make you bleed."

Samantha’s resistance wavered, and she could no longer hear things. She felt like she had been dropped at the bottom of a sea, unable to swim back up where her sanity lay. As beads of sweat formed on her forehead, she realized his plan to seize control of her every being was taking over. Tears rolled down her eyes, everywhere hurt, and there was no way to make it stop.

"Turn. It. Off." Came Marius’s command, and immediately, black streaks began to merge in her eyes until they had become as black as an unfathomable abyss.

At the vault, Ivan couldn’t help but feel undeniably restless. He looked at his hands that were still restricted and tried once more to pull the chains of the wall where they had been attached to. There was a ’crack!’ sound coming from the wall, a slight progress that if he kept pulling, he would be able to free the chains off the wall. Even if he wasn’t able to free his wrist, at least tugging them free from the wall would enable his movement.

Suddenly, the vault started to open, and when it finally did, a guard stepped inside. Ivan looked up to meet the familiar brown eyes gazing at him, and he stopped struggling. When the guard approached him, he took off his helmet and revealed himself.

"Forgive me for showing up late, it wasn’t easy getting him inside... plus he kept judging everything he saw on the way here." He explained, and Ivan’s attention shifted to Duncan who stepped in. He closed the vault and locked it from inside.

"You deliberately left this at the scene, didn’t you?" Duncan brought out the compass he had found lying on the alleyway.

When they successfully made it past the borders, they had to start searching for Ivan. He had disappeared without a trace, and so they split up to look for him.

He took the alleyway with Cassian, and they found this lying on the ground, followed by a ruin they knew couldn’t have been a coincidence. Cassian was quick to add up the scenario, and he knew Ivan had left it on purpose so they would find him.

"Was starting to wonder if I made a mistake trusting you with this mission," Ivan’s gaze moved to the man who gave no response, "good job Caddel." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
