Chapter 354: Eliminating Him For Good

—--

"So this is the effect of the blood moon?" Madeline mused as she watched the day begin its transformation into a surreal red, blending daylight with the impending lunar magic. With everyone busy, she and Samantha decided to take a walk around the forest close to the tent, following Alain who kept playing around with the animated plant, and even conversing with the muted plant.

Samantha sat beside Madeline on the leaf-carpeted ground, her green eyes unable to reflect the same excitement hers eagerly bore. She still remembered the first appearance of a blood moon, and how could she possibly forget? It was the day she restored GreenHollow to what it used to be... it made her curious of her identity back then, of her powers, but now that she has come to understand what she truly is, there was no more excitement, but constant worry.

"Can you feel it?" Madeline whispered, her voice carrying a hushed wonder as she breathed in the fresh air. The breeze rustled gently, sweeping autumn leaves onto their dresses, and Samantha’s gaze shifted surprisingly to a tree that was getting wrapped in vines, and she knew for sure that it wasn’t her doing.

"Have you always been able to do that?" Samantha turned her head to Madeline, "your vines grew bigger than when I last remembered them."

"I’m sure it has something to do with the effect of the blood moon, my powers aren’t as deep as yours. I’ve never seen anything like it though, does the blood moon hold anything auspicious?" She was looking up to the heavens again, obsidian eyes flickering with pure enthusiasm, and Samantha curiously followed her gaze.

The dual spectacle of both the sun and the distant moon painted the sky, a mesmerizing juxtaposition of light and impending darkness – that was what it felt to Samantha. She could feel her powers pulse within her, but unlike Madeline who was able to use her powers at free will, Samantha couldn’t bring herself to do the same, especially on the occurrence of a blood moon.

She knew this because she already tried. Watching Madeline train her ability in a forest like this also boosted her to join, but when her vines erupted from the ground, they were no longer green, but pure black, and that made her freeze in fear.

They looked similar to the ones she conjured when Marius had her under his spell, and it frightened her to her wits that she stopped immediately. Luckily, Madeline hadn’t noticed it, and just recalling the sight of her precious vines sent her shuddering internally.

"It will be a waste to not have a bit of fun when there’s free energy in the air, don’t you think?" Madeline inquired, enjoying herself and the wonderful breeze that caressed her skin. Samantha’s fingers were crumpling the fabric of her dress, and she exhaled softly.

"After finding out I was a dark fae, I’m more reluctant than ever to use my powers. Funny, right?" Samantha managed a little, nervous laugh, "I’m trying so hard to control myself but during this phase... I know it’s going to be a huge challenge for me. What’s even more painful is knowing someone else can control my powers way better than I can."

Samantha drew her knees up to her chest, anxiety clouding her face. If Marius had somehow been able to keep his leash on her till this day, she wondered if she would have been able to break free from his spell. She knew she told herself she wouldn’t get bothered by this, but sometimes, it was difficult to ignore the signs of ’what if.’

What if she hurts someone again? If she can hurt a whole fae clan with these two hands of hers, how can she be so sure that she would be able to keep her sanity when it came to the people she loves. Just thinking about it made her skin tingle in a bad way, and she hated herself for thinking too much.

"I’ve always had my vision of dark Fae’s, even if I had never met one... until now." Madeline began after noticing Samantha’s clear unease, "this blood moon gifts us a rare opportunity to harness our powers. Why suppress the feeling when you can let it flow through you. Come on, give it a try, it’ll be like gentle water gliding over the oasis."

Madeline suggested, but she noticed Samantha’s eyes darted nervously the other way, as if considering the implications.

"But you understand your powers, our situation is different. I get jealous of how free you are with it, but in my case, I feel I do understand, and then I feel like I don’t. That’s how unpredictable my powers can be, what if I hurt someone like last time? Marius kept me tied in his spell, and I hurt Ivan without realizing what I was doing until after the deed had been done, I don’t want to repeat the same mistake."

"First of all, you need to stop thinking that Marius indeed has some kind of control over you." Madeline advised, "he doesn’t, the only reason he does is because you let him. Accepting the fact that he can do whatever he pleases with you is his only strength to overpower you. Same goes for the blood moon, it amplifies our strength, but it doesn’t control us. Look, watch this."

Taking a kneeling position, Madeline closed her palm and smiled as though she was about to do some magic trick. In a matter of seconds, a bright green light shone from the depths of her closed palm, and when she opened them, a butterfly with large green wings took off.

It rested on Madeline’s index finger, beating its wings gently, and Samantha watched in pure fascination.

"You have the ability to channel your power with purpose," Madeline smiled encouragingly at the dazed Samantha, "embrace it, and you don’t have to worry, cause I’ll be right here with you. How long do you intend to avoid using your powers? Eventually, this won’t be the last blood moon, will it? Why not learn to control them now?"

Samantha’s eyes followed the butterfly as it flew in the other direction, and maybe Madeline was right. If she keeps running away from it, she’ll never get over it, so why not face those demonic fears now?

’Master! Master! Master! Master!’ Samantha could hear Viney call her name with sheer excitement, and the ground below them shook, followed by the heavy stomp of Viney’s gigantic figure bouncing in their direction.

"Whoa! Viney!" Samantha was unable to get up to her feet due to how the ground trembled, and it didn’t stop until Viney was right in front of her. Honestly, she preferred cute, small Viney to the gigantic scary one looming in front of her, but she wasn’t scared, even with all these intrusive thoughts in her head.

"Where’s Alain?"

At the mention of Alain, the little guy popped his head from Viney’s back.

"He’s fine, Viney took him for a ride." The plant explained, but then brushed off the topic, "Master! It’s the blood moon happening soon, do you know what it means?"

"Of course, I’m your mind reader, so I guess I should know." Samantha answered sarcastically before facepalming at his question. "No, no I don’t , how am I supposed to know if you don’t tell me?"

"The blood moon! Once the blood moon fully arrives, Master’s powers will become strong enough to eliminate Marius for good! Isn’t Master excited?"
