Broken Bond: Claimed by My Ex-Husband's Alpha Billionaire Uncle-Chapter 12: The Betrayment
Chapter 12: The Betrayment
"A misunderstanding?"
Charlotte felt as if the ground beneath her feet was slipping away.
What did he mean by a misunderstanding?
Before she went to the dining room this morning, her lawyer told her that Julian had already signed the divorce papers. So Damon decided to register her name as his Luna.
But it turned out that he rejected the divorce papers instead.
Then, why would her lawyer lie to her?
"Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake? My lawyer said Mr. Warren signed my divorce papers."
The receptionist gave her a helpless smile. "I know you’re desperate, Mrs. Dawson. But our system never makes mistakes when entering data." She continued as she checked something, "And about your lawyer ... Mr. Gion is the one who gave us the rejected divorce papers this morning."
Now Charlotte was even more confused. She tried to call her lawyer, but was immediately redirected to voicemail.
Charlotte tightened her grip on the phone as her frustration bubbled over. Why would Mr. Gion lie to her about Julian signing the papers? And why hadn’t he told her about the rejection?
Damon patted her shoulder gently and led her to a seat in the lobby. "Let me handle this."
While Damon made a phone call—probably to someone who could get to the bottom of this—Charlotte stared at the receptionist with a racing thought.
She had done everything right. She had filed for divorce, she had hired a lawyer, and she was ready to move on.
So why did it feel like the world was conspiring to keep her tied to Julian?
Could Julian have bribed the lawyer to lie to her? It was possible because her payment was kind of crappy.
Damon ended the call and turned to her. His gray eyes looked serious. "I’ve contacted my legal team. They’ll get in touch with your lawyer and find out what’s going on. In the meantime, let’s go home and come back later."
Charlotte clenched her fist, feeling upset by the fact she was being betrayed by her own lawyer. "Okay."
"Hey, Charlotte." Damon lifted her chin when she looked even more upset. "This isn’t the end, Charlotte. Even though Julian rejected the divorce papers, it doesn’t mean he can get you back or control your life anymore."
Charlotte swallowed hard, trying to control her emotions. "I just don’t understand why he’s doing this. He’s the one who cheated, who hurt me ... Why can’t he just let me go?"
He liked playing with so many women, but why did he want to keep Charlotte so badly?
Damon gently cradled her face. "Because men like Julian don’t know how to lose. You were always by his side, even after you saw his worst. That’s why he thinks you’ll forgive him again."
"But I won’t," Charlotte murmured.
"I know you won’t." Damon assured her, "You’ll never take his dirty hands again."
Charlotte only nodded as the response. She let Damon hold her hand as they walked out of the building.
Julian would probably try to break her again, filling her head with bad things like she wasn’t enough for other men, or that he was the only man who would accept her unconditionally.
Charlotte used to believe that nonsense, but now her eyes were wide open and those things would never break her again.
Because now she wasn’t alone.
She didn’t know how this would end, but with Damon at her side, she felt that nothing could stop her.
The ride back to the Crimson Moon manor was silent because Charlotte lost in her thoughts.
When they arrived at the mansion, Damon opened the car door for her. "I’ll make sure my legal team works quickly. Don’t worry, Charlotte."
Charlotte gave him a small smile before stepped into the mansion. She felt like she was losing interest in everything, she didn’t even get excited when the housemaid prepared a new room for her.
She threw herself onto the bed without taking off her coat and shoes. She felt so tired, her mind, her body, and her spirit were drained too much in one day.
Sometimes Charlotte hoped she could sleep forever and never wake up the next morning.
That way, she could finally rest in peace for a long, long time.
Unfortunately, she had never been able to make that dream come true. Like this morning for example, when she went out of her bedroom to get some water, she found a huge commotion instead.
Her ex-mother-in-law or she could consider her as Damon’s sister burst into the mansion, screaming her brother’s name.
In less than 10 minutes, Priscilla had smashed the front door, flipped over Damon’s favorite car, and broken his golf club.
She looked like a madwoman, but Charlotte could already guess the reason for her behavior.
"You bastard! How dare you steal my son’s wife?" Priscilla threw a punch in Damon’s face while he just stood there like nothing happened.
Charlotte hadn’t expected her to find out so quickly. Was Carmen the one who told Priscilla about her relationship with Damon?
She wasn’t sure, but it was the only logical reason she could think of at the moment.
"Are you done?" Damon’s voice sounded as cold as ice, making Priscilla even angrier.
"Damon, you son of a bitch! My son has suffered because of you!" Priscilla grabbed his collar. "You disgusting piece of shit. Have you been after my son’s wife from the beginning?"
Priscilla wanted to punch Damon in the face again, so Charlotte couldn’t help but step out of her hiding place.
"Mother, please stop!" Charlotte rushed over to her. "It’s not his fault!"
Priscilla turned her head toward Charlotte and gave her a sharp look. "You fucking slut How dare you call me mother after you had an affair with your husband’s uncle?"
In a second, Priscilla was standing in front of her. She pulled Charlotte’s hair so hard that she fell to the floor.
"Disgusting! You are the most disgusting woman I’ve ever seen!" She hit her with a golf club. "How many men have you been sleeping with?"
Charlotte immediately covered her face and prepared to be hit a second time. But the golf stick never got a chance to touch her again.
A strong hand grabbed it mid-swing, then tossed it away.
Damon grabbed Priscilla’s wrist. His eyes were filled with rage. "You broke into my house, I don’t care. You destroy my property, I don’t give a fuck. But if you touch her again, I’ll make sure you regret it, Priscilla!"
