Chapter 88: Haven Has Awaken

People said that children were the embodiment of pure souls, and Charlotte had never doubted those words, not even once in her life.

The moment she stepped into Haven’s hospital room, the little girl greeted her with a warm smile. She waved excitedly, her innocent grin somehow reigniting the energy in Charlotte’s body, which had felt drained all day.

"Auntie Charlotte!" Haven exclaimed cheerfully. She reached out, trying to hold her hand. "You came!"

Charlotte walked closer, letting the little girl wrap her tiny fingers around hers. "Of course, I came," she whispered, then pressed a soft kiss to Haven’s forehead. "I’ve been waiting for you to wake up."

Haven giggled, pulling back slightly. "I have so much to tell you! Daddy said I survived a deadly wizard’s poison, and now I have superpowers!"

Charlotte responded with a laugh before sitting beside Haven. She listened to every one of the little girl’s ramblings, whether they made sense or not.

Across the room, Damon watched Charlotte quietly. Louis stood beside him, his expression calm, but Damon knew better that his brother’s heart was still filled with anger and vengeance.

"Brother, I want to kill him," Louis muttered, his voice laced with barely restrained fury.

"So do I," Damon admitted. "But it’s not that simple."

Aside from the fact that Julian was still their family, the Nocturnal Order wouldn’t allow them to kill each other so easily. Since the modern era, a strict law had been in place, every crime had to go through the court.

"The court won’t serve justice," Louis scoffed. "All they’ll do is throw him in jail, but that means nothing. He’ll still be alive after nearly killing his own cousin."

Damon understood his brother’s rage, but he couldn’t let Louis act recklessly and end up in court instead.

"Diana called me a while ago," Damon admitted. "Don’t freak out, but she found traces of Julian near the rogue werewolves’ last known hideout."

Louis clenched his fists tightly. "The forest?"

"Yes, the forest," Damon confirmed. "The traces are subtle, but Diana is certain it’s him. There must be a place in the forest where he’s hiding."

However, despite searching the area multiple times, Diana couldn’t find any houses or cottages within the woods.

The part of the forest where the rogue werewolves had been spotted was rarely entered by humans, so it made sense that there were no visible shelters nearby.

Louis paused for a moment, thinking about a few possibilities. "What if there’s something underground?" he suggested. "A hidden shelter, a bunker, something beneath the surface that we’re not seeing."

Damon frowned, considering it. "That would explain why Diana hasn’t found anything above ground."

"If Julian’s working with people who control the rogue werewolves, they could have built a hideout below the forest ground," Louis continued. "They wouldn’t just camp out in the open and let others found them easily."

Damon nodded, his mind already formulating a plan. "We need to check again, this time, looking for underground passages, hidden entrances. If they’ve been using the same area repeatedly, there has to be a way in."

Louis’s eyes burned with determination. "I’ll go with Diana. If there’s a damn hole in the ground big enough for Julian to crawl into, I’ll find it."

"Okay," Damon said. "But don’t do anything reckless. Let Diana take the lead."

Louis huffed, crossing his arms. "I’m not five."

Damon chuckled. "Could’ve fooled me."

Louis rolled his eyes. "Whatever. Just be ready when we find him."

Damon’s expression turned serious again. "I will be."

After spending a good amount of time chatting with Haven, Charlotte finally decided to let the little girl rest.

"I’ll be back tonight," she said, grabbing her coat and smiling. "Do you want anything? Your uncle will buy it for you."

Damon had given her a credit card, so if she bought anything for Haven, it meant she was technically spending his money.

Haven’s eyes lit up. "I want lots of princess dresses!" she said excitedly, shoving her tablet toward Charlotte. "Look! These ones!"

Charlotte glanced at the screen and nearly laughed. Haven had compiled a collection of at least ten extravagant princess gowns, each one frilly, bejeweled, and outrageously expensive.

Charlotte smiled, glancing at Damon. "Well, looks like your wallet is about to suffer."

Damon shrugged. "My wallet has never suffered."

Charlotte laughed softly because he started to show off his wealth. But he wasn’t wrong ... buying a few dresses wouldn’t make someone like Damon Sullivan any less rich.

Charlotte chuckled. "Alright, I’ll get your gowns once you’re out of the hospital. But for tonight, how about some cheesecake?"

Haven gasped dramatically, as if she had just been offered the greatest gift in the world. "That sounds amazing!"

With a promise to bring the cheesecake, Charlotte finally left the room with Damon.

The moment they stepped out, she took a deep breath, feeling lighter than she had in days. "I’m so glad she’s okay."

Damon glanced at her, his expression softening. "I told you, Haven’s tough. She wasn’t going to let this keep her down." He gave her a gentle pat on the back. "Now, what about you? Are you really okay? Maybe you should rest at home today. I can tell Mr. Barnes you’re not feeling well."

Charlotte shook her head. "I’m fine. I don’t want to suddenly skip and mess up the shooting schedule."

Damon raised an eyebrow. "You barely slept."

"I’ll nap between breaks," she reassured him. "Besides, Haven’s fine now, so I don’t have an excuse to stay home."

Damon looked at her for a moment before sighing. "Alright. But I won’t be able to go with you today because I have work to take care of."

Charlotte smiled. "You don’t have to worry about me. You already have werewolves watching over me from a distance, right? And Isolde will be with me on set."

Damon sighed. "Still, you should start carrying a taser or something. Just in case."

Charlotte rolled her eyes playfully. "I’ll be fine, Damon. Go handle your work before your inbox explodes."

Damon huffed but didn’t argue. Instead, he leaned down, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Alright. But call me if anything happens."

"I will," she promised.

Before heading to the office, Damon dropped Charlotte off at the shooting location. She waved at him with a smile before making her way to her private room.

Haven’s smile had somehow brought back her appetite, so before arriving, she had asked Damon to buy her a sandwich on the way.

"You’re here so early today," Noella remarked, raising an eyebrow as she stepped into the room. She hadn’t expected to find Charlotte already seated, casually eating a sandwich with a script in her other hand.

Her lips curled into a teasing smile. "And what’s with that look? Did something good happen?"

Yesterday, Noella had seen Charlotte leave the set with a heavy expression, almost as if the weight of the world was on her shoulders. But today, she looked utterly relaxed.

"Not really," Primrose replied, not wanting to share everything that had happened to her yesterday. After all, Noella was just a human.

Noella looked at her for a moment, as if trying to read Charlotte’s expression. "Hmm ... I don’t believe you," she said, crossing her arms. "Something definitely happened."

Charlotte chuckled, shaking her head. "It’s nothing serious. I just got some rest, that’s all."

Noella still felt like something was off, but she decided to stay quiet. After all, even though Charlotte seemed friendly, it didn’t mean she had to meddle in her personal life.

Today’s shoot was taking place in Lena’s ex-husband’s apartment. Fueled by anger and resentment toward her, he had kidnapped Olivia, pushing Lena to the brink of losing her sanity.

The director gave final instructions to the crew before turning to Charlotte and Ethan, who played the role of Lena’s ex-husband.

"Alright," the director called out. "Charlotte, you’re breaking into the apartment, completely frantic. You’ve just realized he took Olivia, and your entire world is crumbling. Ethan, you’re unhinged, so you don’t see yourself as the villain here. You’re desperate, angry, and convinced that Lena is the one who ruined your life."

Charlotte nodded, shaking off any lingering distractions around her

The cameras rolled.

The second the director called action, Charlotte transformed. She threw open the door, stumbling inside with wild, panicked eyes.

"Where is she?!" she screamed, her voice filled with anger.

She imagined what she would do if she ever found Julian in the act of poisoning Haven.

Would she have screamed? Attacked him? Would she have lost all control and done something she could never take back?

Her fingers curled into her palms, nails digging into her skin.

She knew the answer.

She wouldn’t have hesitated.

She would have ripped him apart.

Charlotte tried to channel her anger into her acting, using every ounce of rage and frustration as fuel for her performance.

As the next scene began, she forced herself to stay focused. Every emotion she had bottled up—her helplessness, her fury, her fear—she let them spill into her portrayal of Lena.

When the cameras rolled again, she didn’t just act; she became Lena.
