Chapter 90: A Weak Dog Can Bite

Charlotte didn’t know how long she had been unconscious, but when she fluttered her eyes open, everything around her felt unfamiliar.

She was sitting in the middle of a room with cold steel walls. The lighting was terrible, there were only three dim light bulbs hung from the ceiling, barely illuminating the space.

Her heart pounded in her chest. Fear crept up her spine as she realized that she had been kidnapped by her own chauffeur.

No. Maybe he wasn’t really her chauffeur.

Maybe the real one was dead, and someone had taken his place.

But why?

Why would someone go this far to take her? Was this about Julian?

Damon had told her that Julian might have connection to the rogue werewolves that had started wreaking havoc in Northbridge, especially after Julian began running from the people who wanted to sue him over his products.

"Good morning, baby."

Charlotte froze in place. She held her breath for a moment, not daring to lift her head.

That voice.

That nickname.

She didn’t need to look. She already knew who it was.

Julian, her ex-husband, the man who had been hiding for months.

"Why is it so hard to see you these days?" Julian walked closer, a smile appearing on his face, the same kind of smile he always gave Charlotte whenever she had done something wrong.

After running from him for so long, he had finally caught her again.

Was it really impossible to escape him forever?

She had done everything, begging her former Alpha to renew their bond, trying to climb the ladder of fame to rebuild her fortune. Even her parents had assured her that she could run to them if anything ever went wrong.

But none of it mattered.

Because this bastard still managed to track her down, kidnap her, and hide her in a place where no one would ever think to look.

But ... wouldn’t Damon be able to track the mark on her neck?

He would come for her, right?

"Are you thinking that your Alpha will come to save you?" Julian suddenly pulled her hair, forcing her to lift her face. "Hate to break it to you, baby, but this place is underground. Even if he can track you, it won’t be easy for him to get here."

He lowered his voice, turning almost playful. "Besides ... what if I cover his mark?" He tilted his head, eyes glinting with something dark. "Then we can be together again. Just like before."

Charlotte didn’t hesitate. She spat right in his face and a mocking smile stretched across her lips. "How arrogant of you to think a weak werewolf like you could ever erase an Alpha’s mark."

Julian might have been able to mark her once, but he could never undo what Damon had done. Damon was stronger, more powerful, higher in rank. Julian was nothing compared to him.

But Charlotte should have known better than to mock the devil in his own lair.

Slap!

Her head snapped to the side. A sharp sting bloomed across her cheek.

It had been so long since she’d felt pain like this.

Damon had never laid a hand on her. Whenever he touched her, it was with nothing but warmth, like she was something delicate, something precious.

To Julian, she was nothing more than a rubber doll, something he could punch, kick, or even torture, expecting her to bounce back as if nothing had happened.

"How dare you leave me, Charlotte?" Julian leaned in close, his breath hitting her skin, making her stomach churn. "You know I love you, don’t you?" His voice was gentle, sickeningly sweet. "I even let you stay in my house and let you do nothing."

"All you had to do was be an obedient wife. A perfect little doll to warm my bed. Was that really too much to ask?" He reached out and brushed his fingers along her cheek, but instead of comfort, the touch sent cold fear racing through her veins.

"We can start over, Charlotte," he murmured. "You can make up for all your sins by being my good little wife again."

Charlotte swallowed her fear and glared at him. "I’d rather die than be your wife again," she said, her voice sounding calm despite the trembling inside her. "And I’d rather burn alive than be your sex doll again."

Julian had never loved her.

He was obsessed with her.

To him, she wasn’t a person, just something to own, something to control.

She had never been his wife.

She had been his possession, his perfect, obedient little doll, locked away in his house for him to admire and use whenever he pleased.

Charlotte had once endured it. She had once believed she had no choice.

But after being with Damon, after feeling what it was like to be treated with love, with respect, she couldn’t go back.

She wouldn’t go back.

She would rather die.

But her baby ...

Her baby wouldn’t survive if she gave up now.

Her baby would never get the chance to meet its kind and loving father.

What kind of mother would let that happen?

"What? Have you forgotten who you are, Charlotte?" Julian’s fingers slid around her throat, squeezing hard. She gasped, her body instinctively fighting for air. "You’re my wife," he growled. "How dare you let another man touch you, but refuse to let me?"

"We ... are divorced," Charlotte choked out, struggling to breathe. "You’re not my husband anymore."

Julian’s smile stretched wider. "Do I need to remind you that I am your husband?" His voice dripped with malice. "I might not be able to erase that filthy mark on your neck, but I can still claim you in other ways."

Charlotte’s eyes darkened as his hand tried to rip her shirt. At that moment, Charlotte didn’t hesitate even a single moment.

She bit him.

She bit down on the hand that had covered her body in bruises and wounds for far too long.

She couldn’t turn into a werewolf, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t bite.

Her teeth sank deep into his flesh. Julian screamed in pain, his other hand punching her face again and again. But Charlotte didn’t want to stop.

If he touched her again, she would bite him again.

She would claw, kick, tear—hell, she would rip his damn dick off if she had to.

"You bitch!" Julian finally tore himself free, landing a brutal punch to her stomach.

No, no ... not her stomach.

Her baby might be in pain.

But Charlotte refused to give up.

She wouldn’t let Julian touch her again.

Julian stepped back, shaking his injured arm, his face filled in fury. Blood trickled from the bite mark Charlotte had left on his skin.

"You’ve grown wild, haven’t you?" he sneered, his voice laced with anger. "Who taught you to fight back like this? That damn Alpha of yours?"

Charlotte glared at him, refusing to show fear. Her breathing was ragged, and pain burned in her stomach, but she wouldn’t let him see her weakness.

"You don’t own me, Julian," she spat. "You never did."

Julian chuckled darkly, wiping the blood from his arm. "Oh, Charlotte... You keep forgetting. I made you. You were nothing before me."

She clenched her fists. She wasn’t going to let his words get to her.

"Is that what you tell yourself to sleep at night?" she shot back. "That I was nothing before you? Pathetic."

She lifted her chin proudly. "I’m Charlotte Dawson, a famous actress loved by many people. I had fortune and success long before you came into my life! If anything, you were the one who was nothing without me!"

"Oh, Charlotte," he sneered, stepping closer. "You just love to run your mouth, don’t you?"

He crouched down, grabbing her chin roughly, forcing her to look at him. "I let you live in luxury. I gave you everything. And yet, you still act like you were better off without me?" His grip tightened painfully. "You should be grateful, baby."

What luxury?

Every bit of luxury in his house came from her.

He had stolen her fortune, claimed it as his own, and told everyone that he had become successful through his own hard work.

But his every word was bullshit.

Before Julian continued his monologue, she felt something against her wrist, a loose part of the rope binding her hands.

Her heart pounded.

Slowly, carefully, she moved her fingers, twisting and tugging at the knot.

Julian was too caught up in his own arrogance to notice.

"You think that Alpha of yours will come and save you?" Julian let out a low chuckle. "By the time he finds this place, you’ll already be mine again. No ... maybe I’ll let other werewolves have a taste of you too."

Charlotte’s blood turned cold.

Julian tilted his head. "I heard you’re pregnant," he said casually, as if he were talking about the weather.

Then, with a chilling smile, he said something so vile, so monstrous, that only a man without heart could have uttered it. "What if I make you lose your and your Alpha’s baby?" He continued, "But don’t worry. I can always have other men plant their seed inside you again ... so you can still have a baby."

Charlotte’s stomach twisted in horror. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

Her hands clenched into fists, nails digging into her palms.

She had known Julian was cruel. But this?

This was beyond anything she had ever imagined.
