Building An Empire Starting From The Labor Camp In Exile-Chapter 261: Got you!
"If we send a Master Knight to respond, then we will suddenly see that his main army could move very fast, or he’ll just directly make all his Master Knights and his Errant Knight immediately attack us," Atrox pointed out.
Lieutenant Patel folded her hands and stared at the map in front of her. "But if we don’t send a Master Knight, then we will still be forced to attack when they hit us from the rear."
"Yes. We should make them come to us," Atrox insisted. He didn’t want to split his most powerful fighters, not after he saw what a single Master Knight could do to an army. "I should not have let Vorath live."
Pomora cleared her throat. "I doubt even you can take a Master Knight, Commander. I understand that you want your Master Knights close to you. To be very honest, every war is fought and won with the number of Master Knights each force has. The army and the soldiers are just a show of strength, statement decorations if you must, and a way to control the normal people."
Atrox knew this well, and that was why he didn’t want to split to chase after the crumb thrown by Thrain. "What do you say, Takoda?"
Takoda nodded. "I agree with Lieutenant Patel and Pomora. We shouldn’t let a Master Knight we don’t even know make contact with the army. We should meet them and engage."
Atrox was silent. Ultimately, the power to make decisions lay in his hands. He carefully examined everything again.
"...If only that brother of mine were stupid and full of arrogance... but that bastard is smart and arrogant... he’s not stupid, which means he won’t be doing anything without reason..."
Atrox tapped on the table. "Fine. Then I will go."
The words were like cold fire on a bonfire. They all turned shocked expressions to him, and Slya and Tiber, who had been sitting quietly by themselves, stood. Slya waved her hand. "You can’t fight a Master Knight by yourself, Atrox!"
"I can," Atrox said calmly. "But I might not win, and that in itself isn’t too bad. I won’t be going to win, but to create an illusion that a Master Knight is engaging."
Tiber shook his head. "Only, your tower is well known now. Nobody will be fooled. They will know it is you who is fighting."
Atrox pressed his lips together. That was something he hadn’t considered. He wanted to fool them into thinking that a Master Knight had been dispatched.
"It’s a trap, I’m sure of that, but I don’t know where the trap applies. Is it the coming unit or the army? We have three Master Knights. That’s simply not enough. I have made up my mind. No Master Knight will be sent for investigation!"
They weren’t angry; they accepted the orders without fuss. "Then what are we to do with the split unit?"
Atrox smiled. "The same thing I said earlier. I will go, but only at night. Tonight, I will go after them. If it’s a Master Knight, then I will run back. I’m very good at escaping with my tower."
Pomora shook her head. "After what happened, they would be expecting something like that."
Atrox nodded. "Yes, they will, but it doesn’t really change anything. There is nothing they can do to keep me down with my combination of law and teleportation. This is what makes the Commander’s Tower superior."
He saw the hesitation on their faces. He was their Commander, the reason they were there in the first place. Should he fall, then the army had fallen, technically. That was something they were all trying to avoid, but Atrox was running straight into a trap as if he had no care in the world.
"Don’t worry. Slya and Tiber will be with me. In my absence, Lieutenant Patel will be in charge. You Master Knights know what you must do, so it’s useless to tell you anything else."
With nothing more to say, everyone went their different ways, except that Slya scolded Atrox thoroughly. The only thing that made her stop nagging was that she was going along with him.
But Atrox had a different plan he hatched inside himself.
"...Do you guys really think I will just run away? Even a Master Knight must get wounded by me before I leave them alone... if I can even kill them... but that’s not possible..."
Atrox didn’t say all that aloud. Instead, he smiled and nodded with every warning they gave. He mustn’t let even a single hair on his head get hurt.
Since there was no attacking, the army was on standby mode, where a single strange event would throw them into attacking mode easily. So there wasn’t really much for Atrox to do during the day. He spent the rest of the day training, looking through his techniques, and trying to prepare himself.
When night came, he ate and did everything like normal, but once everyone was settled in for the night, he wore his black clothes and then put a cloak around his neck.
But he didn’t just run into the night. Instead, he waited for Tiber to change into his nightmare form and cover them in a cloak of darkness that made them nearly invisible in the dark. They hurried out of the street, avoiding people as they ran deeper in.
When they got to an isolated place, Atrox brought out his tower and enlarged it, absorbing everyone into it in the process. Then they shot straight into the clouds, using the unseen law to cover themselves.
Since they didn’t know the exact location of the unit, Atrox just headed west like the map said and kept scanning the ground for a group that would be doing their best to stay hidden or one that carried a Master Knight whose aura he could feel.
The moon was absent that night, but the tower made it easy to see the ground clearly. He got out of his territory completely before he saw those he was looking for.
They were in the second group description. They didn’t bother to hide their Master Knight, and the person’s aura was powerful enough to be picked up by the tower.
Atrox smiled. "Got you!"
