Chapter 271: A dangerous sword

Not only because of their speed. The two of them were like two flickering masses of heat, one red and the other golden. Unlike before, when Atrox had simply dominated, this time he had to fight on an equal level of speed with his brother.

With the essence stored within his armor, Thrain was a blazing streak of golden light. He laughed. "I was initially saving this for when I attack the other Clans. If I save enough essence, then I might even reach the rank of the Master Knight for a while, but it’s not too bad!

"I acknowledge you as one of the most powerful rivals I have, and I will kill you with all my strength!" After saying that, he jumped back and created light spears that he sent at Atrox.

Bam! Bam!

Atrox weaved between the spears, his hand reaching out and blasting red fire that swallowed the space in front of him. The fire was like liquid fire, a red sheet that flowed like the tide.

Thrain held it back with a golden shield, his eyes shining like two suns. "Sad Sun!"

He shouted again, and above him, sunlight fell.

The light fell like a beam, but it was thin and straight, a focused thin beam that was so fast Atrox didn’t have the time to jump away. Instead, he created his infernal cloak to take the hit, and even then, the beam from the light began to drill a hole into his cloak. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

’.....I have to end this....’ Atrox thought. He combined the few orbs that were floating above his head and made them into a single fireball that he flung at the sun.

Boom!

The two exploded, raining fire down on all of them in a rippling force that sent the two of them staggering. But the sun was still standing!

Atrox grunted. It wouldn’t be as easy as he expected. He flexed his body as he thought about whether he should do what he was thinking about or not.

Back in the second layer, he had used something similar to defeat Alyndra. And this time, he had a better sword.

Atrox stopped fighting and jumped back. He used his formation to make his weapon his sword that looked jagged. His left hand then hovered above the sword.

Thick black links like small ropes fell from his hand into the sword, crawling over the sword like snakes. The black lines warped around the sword so much so that every inch of the weapon was covered in black lines.

"What are you doing?" Thrain asked suspiciously. He was breathing faster from his place. The fighting had gotten to him. He had thought Atrox an easy kill, but now he didn’t even know what was going to happen next. The only saving grace he had was the sun that was still above him. It was the manifestation of all the essence he’d saved.

Thrain scowled as he looked up at the sky where the two Master Knights were exchanging blows. ’....why did she have to appear?....’

Atrox shrugged as he lifted the sword. "I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m doing as well. This is the first time I’m doing something like this."

The sword was completely black from the amount of binding that he used. That was the highest amount of binding he had ever used. Atrox took a deep breath, and when he let it out, all the fire that was surrounding him vanished.

Thrain looked at him suspiciously. "What are you planning?"

Atrox raised his sword, and then he directed all the essence he had inside it. At first, nothing happened. It was going smoothly, and the binding didn’t have much difficulty holding it in.

But then, as the flood of essence continued without stopping, the binding began shuddering. The black began to tremble as the power continued to flow.

Thrain didn’t know what was happening, but he suddenly felt threatened. He knew instinctively that he couldn’t let Atrox continue. "Sad Sun!"

A beam of light aimed at Atrox, but he jumped away. He began to run far away from the burnt clearing and into the forest.

Thrain stood frozen for a while, then he cursed and ran after him, the sun lighting the way.

As Atrox was running, he kept filling his sword with power. The binding turned red, then blinding, and then flickering red like embers.

Surprisingly, no heat came out of the sword. Everything was trapped inside. Atrox kept running, dodging trees in a streak of red light.

But then he ran straight to a corner, and a tree was suddenly in front of him. Atrox came to a stop to dodge, but his sword mistakenly touched the tree. Just the edge of the sword.

Just the edge of the sword touched a tree big enough for ten men to wrap their hands around. But a single small touch of the sword, and the tree was slashed into two, with half of it reduced to ashes.

Just like that. There wasn’t any flash of fire or heat. In fact, the tree wasn’t smoking. Even Atrox wasn’t paying attention to it as he ran, but what he was paying attention to was dodging and filling the sword with essence.

But slowly, Thrain began to catch up. "Stop running and face me!"

And Atrox did. He stopped running. The sword in his hand had stopped flickering, and now it looked like a normal old metal sword. It was covered in rust, and it had no heat, but Atrox was more careful than usual while holding it. He made sure the blade was facing away from him and wouldn’t mistakenly touch him.

"I’ve stopped running." Atrox was breathing fast as well. He’d used almost all his essence in the sword, after all.

But Thrain wasn’t looking at Atrox. For some reason, his attention had shifted to the sword that Atrox was holding. Not just his attention, his whole body seemed to lean and turn toward the direction of the sword.

It was understandable. The body that has been honed and trained in life-and-death situations is usually more sensitive to threats and dangers.

What his body was telling Thrain was that the sword is dangerous!
