Chapter 100: Grand Heist-2

"How’s it going there, Cony?" Alvin asked from the carriage, as it left the alleyways onto the road.

"Um, I guess their moving is a good sign." He replied, having his gaze on the reins which he held still as if anymore movement could cost his life.

"It’s just a horse, how hard can it be." Thelma’s voice came from behind, a nervous smile creeping up his face instead.

’Horses you mean.’ His eyes now on the two before him, he gulped down hard as he stared back at them.

Minutes later, they were trotting away past other vehicles at a sturdy pace, yet he couldn’t help but watch.

For after every few moments they’d snort and snicker at each other, occasionally shooting glances at him as they did.

’Are they scheming something?’ Cony wondered, chuckling to himself on such a possibility, before brushing the thought off the next second.

Meanwhile in the carriage, Thelma looking like a real lady of her age sat one side while the so-called knights were opposite her.

"Well, they aren’t as heavy like before." Timtin’s amazement was still drawn all over his face, having his entire focus on the breastplate.

"Not a knight but I’ve got to agree with such good naming— breastplate, hmm. I wonder what hunters call it, it would be way cooler."

"Nothing actually." Timtin stated.

"Eh?"

"I mean, hunter’s don’t wear them."

Alvin froze for a second, then immediately turned to the other person in the area for confirmation.

"What?" Thelma glanced between the two, still processing what was going on as she tore through her meat-snack. "It’s not like they need it."

As if realization had poured a bucket of water on his head this time round. His almost lost smug and pride came running back, as everything sunk in.

"Ah, yeah. Mere knights can’t hurt a hunter of monsters, heh." Alvin boasted, grinning at Tim.

"You sure, cause this one will slay a dragon one day."

"Yeah, dealing the final blow after the hard part has been done by me—huh."

"Exactly, and you would be dead for doing that."

"Hah— coward!"

"Cautious you mean."

"Weak!"

"Tactical."

"Guys?" A voice peered from the front.

"Chicken!"

"Defensive."

"Guys?"

"Heartless!"

"Hah– you’re brainless!"

"Guys?"

"Huh? Did you hear?" Thelma’s ears twitched with her eyes darting around, trying to hear anything aside the noisy duo before her. "Hm, nevermind."

"Gutless!"

"That’s pointless!"

"Guys?!"

’Cony?’ This time round, her entire attention was pulled off her snack.

"Toothless!"

"Moml—"

"Shut it, dummies!"

"Huh—"

"Something’s up with, Cony!" Thelma exclaimed, as the two looked at each other and back to her.

"Cony?" They muttered, barely processing everything before his voice came again loud and clear.

"The horses! They took us off course!"

"Eh?!" They all ehhed.

"Darn it! They were really plotting something! They’re smiling at me!"

They all glanced at each other. Alvin managing to voice out his thoughts before—

"Are you hig—"

"Heavens! IT’S A STRAY CA..." That’s all that was heard before his voice and almost everyone’s hearing drowned in and ear-splitting—

*NEIIIIIIIGH!!!

"Ahhhh!!" Yelling his lungs out, as it seemed to work out in preventing the ringing the others were now enduring. Thelma seemed to be used to it i, getting off her seat and heading towards the other side. Carefully balancing herself as she could feel the carriage speeding up.

She eventually made it there, ignoring the wincing duo with their hands pressing their ears. She pushed a window open, her eyes widening upon looking past her comrade to the incoming bend. As she wasn’t the only one who seemed to have noticed it, the last she heard was—

"BRACE YOURSELVES!!" Right before, her entire being was shifted to the left, like the world had scrolled over to the next menu.

"A—"

*BAM!!

***************

"Who are you?"

*SNIFFLE!

*SNIFFLE!

"My, my... Thelma can’t recognize her worst nightmare?"

"Eh?"

"That’s new. How I wish the same could be said for my payments."

*SNIFFLE!

"Is money all you think about, Kez."

"At least I don’t do what anyone would ever imagine, easy to read eh." Footsteps drew closer as she spoke.

"Hahaha, the last person like that— is dead." Her laughter was genuine for a second or two before turning into a pained one, then a tearful one with her following words. "All because..."

*SNIFF—SNIFFLE!

"All because...all because I—I—I— WAAAAH!"

Barely hearing the figure drop on her knees beside her, she cried like before if not louder. As soon, a pair of hands wrapped around her taking her into a cold embrace— knowing nothing warm about the other.

"Come on, a miserable bag of gold barely pays well."

"Go-to hell, Kez."

*SNIFFLE!

"Awwn, ain’t ya the sweetest coin ever— imma trade ya if I ever escaped."

"Wait." Thelma’s pair of sapphires suddenly lit up bright with whatever one could barely guess. "You want to escape?"

"Well, who wouldn’t with Head Maid taken?" She gazed down at her with an obvious look, her latter words barely audible though heard.

"Anyone except for you... and I." A smile crept up her face.

"Why do I feel like I’m going to regret this?"

"Maybe, but I definitely know a way out of here. I’ll go pack up first." Thelma sprung up to her feet almost as fast as her tears had disappeared.

"Wait, wait, wait— pack up?"

"Why, you want to come back here when there’s a whole world out there?"

"Well, I—"

"See you east of the enclave in an hour then, Kez."

’East?’ She took a mental note before dusting off as she got up. "You were better as a crybaby."

"Bet I was!" A reply came from a distance, leaving the other stunned.

**************

*AHHHH!!!

*HEAVENS YOU ALMOST CRUSHED ME!!!

*HEYYY!!!

*WATCH WERE YOU ARE GOING!!!

"SORRY!!" A voice came from the speeding carriage, which had just caught it’s balance. After making a bend on two wheels.

"Haa, that did hurt." His hand went to his side having hit one of the side boards. Alas, it had served it’s purpose of keeping him from toppling over in a rather more painful way. With just a glance around, he could see the buildings moving by fast, meaning only one thing.

"We are...still speeding?" Cony snapped into action, quickly reaching for the reins which were close to slipping away.

"They aren’t budging!" Cony yelped. Pulling on the reins, he tried to get both horses to slow down though stopping them would’ve proofed easier.

Despite moving fast, the area barely had anyone around like earlier. However, it was a concern to him as he was posed with two choices. One, he could take a nearing impossible bet on these scheming horses slowing down from exhaustion. Yet, glancing at the sideboards he could only hope for one thing that would happen before they had to take another—

Before it could even become a reality, his eyes widened when the horses made it one, with a sudden swift turn. Taking a bend, just when they could have simply gone straight ahead.

"Oh, come onnnn!!"

Seconds before the million dollar moment, Thelma’s eyes had flue open.

"Ugh, my head!" A pulsating headache hit her as she came to herself.

’Why’s it moving fast?’ She could barely think, yet what she felt underneath didn’t need her too. "Cony?" Mumbling, she managed to stand up with whatever aid she got from what felt human. Thelma managed to get near the window as fast, as she could.

Yet the moment everything came into view it was a familiar one, though a few seconds ahead when the bend was made.

*BREAK!

The sudden sound had instantly whacked the realization into her head, recalling she’d heard Cony shout. It had been a few seconds ago, and currently she was once again heading towards the wooden walls. Yet this time round, it was no where the same.

"Cony." She breathed amidst everything and as if that was all she needed, whatever it was, she could feel it awaken.

And soon defying gravity, including whatever existing forces, her feet touched the floor. As in a split second, she’d opened the carriage doors, grabbed a hold of the collar of the falling mate and sent him crashing into the vehicle. Quickly, Thelma then got back in, bolting it just before her fiery sapphires suddenly cooled off.

Although, back on the carriage wall, another pair of eyes were wide open as his mouth.

"That was so coo—" Before reality hit him, Alvin was already knocked out from a second slam after Cony’s.

"Phew!" Thelma exhaled as the vehicle once again, landed on all fours but having no driver this time round. Still, it was the least of her problems as she eagerly reached into the nearby paper bag. And with a mouthful from the last drumstick of her snack, she made herself comfortable on the two beneath her.

"Haaa, Yummy..."
