Bye, My Ruthless Alpha-Chapter 13: Potion of Passion
Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Potion of Passion
Jace looked up at me with confusion. “Seriously? Cayden, you know she is my charge and nothing more. Why would you even think that?”
He called me by my name. Now he was speaking as my friend, not my beta. I knew without a doubt that my words had taken him by surprise because he stood there staring at me with his mouth partially open.
I sat back and relaxed my body a bit, waiting for his reply. Granted, I had known Jace since we were boys, but I was still the Alpha, and I didn’t tolerate being questioned.
Jace stared at me for a moment before letting out a chuckle. “No, Cayden. I only said that because it might help with the situation.” With a grin on his face, he shook his head and fixed his eyes on me. "Are you feeling jealous now just because she gave me a pair of gloves?"
“Jace, I was the one who asked the question.” The look on my face told him that I didn’t find his comment amusing.
“I was just wondering... Why would you care what a breeder does?” When I didn’t respond, he continued, “Cayden, Tori is a nice girl...”
By now, I knew what was om his mind—he wanted to spare Tori’s life. No wonder he wore those silly gloves when he came to see me today.
So many people were dying in the war, innocent or not. Why should she be different? Why did everyone think so highly of her?
“Beta, go do your job.” This time, my words were firm and left no room for discussion. “Those gloves don’t suit you, and I don’t want to see them again.” I didn’t need anyone to remind me how good Tori was. It didn’t matter, anyway. She didn’t belong here.
“Yes, Alpha,” Jace sighed. I knew he understood what I meant. “Miss Tori talked to me today...”
I was about to lose it, but he continued before I could interrupt. “...she said she is ready to breed. And she was wondering when you could fit it in with your schedule.”
I raised my eyebrow again. Honestly, I was surprised. Wouldn’t she prefer to hide from me for as long as possible?
I couldn’t help but think back to how she had shaken with fear and cried the first time I tried to claim her. Her small form lay upon the bed, eyes closed, trembling as her long hair flowed around her like a crown...
Seriously, was I really that terrifying to her?
“In two days.” I looked at Jace as I gave my answer. “Anything else for me, Beta?”
He could tell that was all I was willing to discuss for the night. “No, Alpha. May I be excused?”
I waved my hand, gesturing for Jace to leave the room.
He sighed as he turned, walking out the door.

Tori’s POV
Two days ago, I informed Jace that I was ready to take on the role of breeder. The time had flown by.
“You’re not going to regret this,” Kas said as she paced around the study area in my room, an eager smile on her face. “You’ll be a great mother!”
I smiled but felt guilty. As much as she had been a great friend, we had different views on the breeder situation. Yes, I had been doing everything I could to build my strength and get myself ready physically and mentally to fulfill my role as a breeder. But it was to earn my freedom.
“She’s right, Tori,” Ava added in agreement. “I’ve looked over your medical records, and you are doing marvelous. Taking the time to get healthy has done wonders for you. Plus, you have gotten to know the pack as well and made new friends, I hear?”
A smile spread across my face and I nodded. "Yeah... I like going shopping and taking walks with you guys."
"I also enjoy spending time with you. It always makes me feel relaxed!" Kas exclaimed with a giggle. "Don’t you feel way more at ease here?"
“Yes, I do.”
The smile and blush that swept my face made me cast my eyes down, thinking about the time I was spending within the Black Shadow pack. People had been far nicer than I had expected... except for the Alpha.
However, even when it came to Alpha Cayden—as intimidating as he was—I appreciated that he hadn’t done anything to hurt me. A part of me wanted to see him again.
The thought made me blush even more.
“Tori, you’re going to do great! I just know it!” Kas jumped up and grasped my arms.
I took a deep breath. I was the one who had asked for it this time, and I thought I was ready... but what if I did it wrong again? This was probably my last chance. If I couldn’t get this done properly, I didn’t dare imagine what the consequences would be.
The thought wiped the smile off my face, and Kas must’ve noticed it. She walked me to a chair and sat me down.
“Tori, are you okay? What’s wrong? Can I get you anything?”
Ava stepped closer and answered for me. “Kas, can you give her some time to relax?” Then she turned to me. “Tori, sweetie, you still need to have a light dinner before you go get ready.”
“Yes, Ava. I’ll stop talking and ask them to bring some salads right away.” Kas made a face to Ava like a little kid, still very excited. Then she ran out of the room before I could say, “Thank you.”
“Crazy girl!” Ava shook her head with a grin on her face. Then she turned to me, and I noticed her expression was more serious. “Tori, you can be honest with me. Are you sure you’re ready? You know...” She pulled over a chair and sat next to me, so I didn’t need to raise my head to talk to her. “...the Alpha has granted us more time if we need it.”
“Ava,” I looked her in the eye with an assuring smile, “I will be fine. I promise.”
I could hear my heart pounding as I spoke. But I made up my mind, and the earlier I could get it done, the better.
“Okay.” Ava hesitated for a moment, then let out a sigh. “Please remember to just relax and flow with it. Also”—she pulled out a miniature transparent container with a couple of pills in it—“take this, please. It’ll make things much easier.”
I looked at them, a bit confused. “Ava, these are...?”
“Yes, I know. They’re to help with sexual desire and should bring on your heat and make the situation a little more... comfortable for you. Take the pills before you meet with him. They will help to relax you, and put you in a... better mood to engage in the activity.”
Ava’s words rang through my mind, and a soft sigh left my lips. They would help, but it still made me nervous to take something like this.
When I looked back up to where Ava had been sitting, she was already up and walking out of the room. I was left alone in the enormous Luna suite with so much on my mind.
Do I still have to spend the night with Alpha Cayden?
My eyes went to the pills Ava had given me. I stared at them as they sat on the counter in their small container. I didn’t want to admit to myself that I would need them, but maybe I did.
I took the pills from the container and rolled them around on my palm. I closed my eyes and let a sigh escape me.
“It has to be done.” I looked down once again at the pills in my hand. “It’s now or never, right?”
With a deep breath of courage, I tossed them into my mouth and rinsed them down with a cup of water.
There was no turning back now.
Just thinking about the touch of his hands on my skin and the smell of his breath makes my face flush involuntarily. After a while, I felt a hot, burning sensation in my lower abdomen and a faint sense of restlessness in my heart.
I poured myself a glass of water and drank it, but I still couldn’t get rid of the hot and restless feeling. Moreover, Alpha Cayden’s face kept popping up in my mind.
