Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 652 - 653 Zhou Yu, Let’s Start Again
Gu Anxi hung up the phone and headed to the hospital first.
Zhou Yu was supposed to be discharged today if there were no further issues, so Gu Anxi wanted to pay her a visit.
Arriving at Yunxi Hospital, she went straight to Zhou Yu’s floor. When she pushed open the door, she saw Min Xin inside.
Zhou Yu was having breakfast, with Min Xin watching from the side.
Gu Anxi sighed. Goodness, even though he was so burnt out, he could still show up this early in the morning. He was truly debasing himself.
Zhou Yu ate her breakfast in small bites, paying little attention to Min Xin, and didn’t invite him to sit and eat with her. The Secretary-General, Wang Yuan, felt his heart ache for Mr. Min Xin. All these injuries Mr. Min Xin sustained were for you, Madam! It’s one thing if you don’t feel sorry for him, but to not even invite him for breakfast... As a subordinate, though, I can’t say much. I can only watch helplessly as my superior acts like a complete simp. Fortunately, not many people saw this, or Mr. Min Xin wouldn’t be able to show his face in public.
Min Xin was starting to feel hungry, but since Zhou Yu hadn’t said anything, he felt too awkward to eat with her. Besides, there was only one serving of breakfast in front of her, a portion as small as a cat’s.
He was worried she wouldn’t have enough, so he asked softly, "If it’s not enough, I’ll have Wang Yuan buy you some more. Don’t you love the breakfast from Man Ji the most?"
Zhou Yu glanced at him in surprise. "I haven’t really eaten it in many years."
He was even more surprised than she was, his voice growing softer, with a hint of a smooth-talking scoundrel’s charm, "Why don’t you like it anymore?"
Zhou Yu lowered her head, took another small bite, and then said, "My stomach isn’t very good."
Min Xin’s expression immediately grew tense. "Where does it feel uncomfortable?"
"It’s been unwell for a while." Zhou Yu looked at him and then said, "Min Xin, do you really not remember?"
He froze for a moment.
Zhou Yu lowered her head, her voice soft. "It was a long time ago, wasn’t it?"
She glanced at him. "You might not want to hear it."
Min Xin gazed at her without speaking.
Zhou Yu’s voice was low. "Back then, you were never home. I would wait for you for dinner, sometimes until ten or eleven at night. If you didn’t come back, the whole table of food would be thrown out, and I wouldn’t eat either. After a long time, I developed stomach problems. It only started to get better much later."
Min Xin was somewhat stunned. After a long moment, he said, "You never told me."
He only remembered the little girl he used to spoil, always lounging on the sofa, her face occasionally streaked with tears. Back then, seeing her like that made his heart ache, so he would carry her to bed. But when she woke up, she would ignore him. At first, there was a certain playful tension between them, but later, she genuinely started to ignore him. Slowly, the two of them stopped talking much...
Thinking back on the past, Min Xin’s gaze softened further. "Why didn’t you tell me?"
Zhou Yu didn’t make a sound.
But Wang Yuan, who had overheard, leaned in and whispered, "You were... quite busy back then, Sir."
He even gave a meaningful look.
Min Xin understood at once what he had been busy with back then... So he looked gratefully at his Secretary-General, cleared his throat, and said again, "It was my fault for neglecting you in the past."
This morning was a rare opportunity to talk with her like this, and he didn’t want to let it pass.
After some thought, he said slowly, "I will compensate you in the future."
Zhou Yu put down her breakfast and looked at Min Xin quietly. "How will you compensate me?"
Min Xin didn’t answer directly. Instead, he sat to the side, watching her silently. After a long while, he finally spoke, "Yu Yu, let me send you abroad."
Zhou Yu chuckled softly. "You don’t actually think we still have a chance, do you? Min Xin, I’m not that soft-hearted. It’s not like just because you rescued me, I’ll be so moved that I’ll recklessly throw myself back into your arms."
She lowered her gaze. "I’m already forty. I’m not a little girl anymore." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Min Xin’s heart jolted.
Zhou Yu continued, "Perhaps I don’t hate you as much anymore, but the hurt is still there. I can’t just forget everything because I’m pregnant or because you saved me. If I did, then all that pain, all those tears I shed, would be worthless."
Min Xin was speechless. For the first time, he truly felt that his little fairy had indeed grown up; she was no longer as naive as before. He had always believed she either loved him or hated him. But now, she said she neither hated nor loved him. This scared him even more.
Min Xin’s voice was hoarse. "Let’s start over. I won’t force you. Going abroad will be good for you and the child. I want to take care of you."
