Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 748 - 749: This child, I also contributed
After sending the person home, Gu Anxi headed straight to her uncle’s place. She was driving when her phone rang.
It was a call from Chu Ci.
She answered via Bluetooth, with a faint smile, "Are you calling about Chu Yan?"
On the other end, Chu Ci took a moment before answering, "Is she going to England?"
Gu Anxi responded affirmatively, "Yes, she’s going to England. Why, are you thinking of following her?"
Then she added, "You better not, or I can’t guarantee what your mother might do."
"I won’t." Chu Ci shook his head. "I definitely won’t."
Why would he make things difficult for her?
Gu Anxi nodded, "That’s good to hear. I think it would be best if your entire family, including you, would just let her go. By the way, Yan Yan has been taking things quite well. Chu Ci, if you can’t give her happiness, stop pursuing her. She’s still young and can’t take another heartbreak."
Chu Ci leaned back on the couch and let out a deep breath, "I understand."
Gu Anxi didn’t say anything more, just gave a faint smile and hung up the phone.
She drove to Yunxi Hospital and went straight to find her uncle. Outside, she ran into his assistant, who quietly pulled her aside, "Professor Bo is in a bad mood. He’s been like this all day. Doctor Gu, please try to talk to him later."
Gu Anxi nodded and entered the room. Bo Xichen was standing by the window, smoking, so absorbed in his thoughts he didn’t notice her enter.
Gu Anxi paused for a moment, then went over and hugged him around the waist. "Uncle."
Bo Xichen stiffened, then asked, "Did you send Chu Yan away?"
She hummed in confirmation, then lifted her face and said softly, "I saw Chu Ci at the airport."
Bo Xichen looked surprised, "What did he say?"
"What could he say?" Gu Anxi complained. "Even with things as they are, he acted as if he didn’t see me. Only Chu Changhe came over and said a few words. What really got to me was Madame Chu’s dismissive expression whenever she looked at Yan Yan; she’s so cruel-hearted. In the end, this is all Chu Ci’s fault. What does the poor girl have to do with any of this?"
Bo Xichen didn’t comment, but patted her head lightly.
Seeing him about to light another cigarette, Gu Anxi quickly objected, "If we’re going to have a child, your smoking could affect its health."
Bo Xichen laughed but snuffed out his cigarette immediately. Holding her close, he asked softly, "Why are you here?"
Gu Anxi slid onto the windowsill, then wrapped her arms around his neck and yawned, "If I had gone straight to my elder brother’s place, he would have lectured me non-stop. So annoying."
Bo Xichen, both amused and incredulous, said, "He’d be mad if he heard you talking about him like this."
"Yeah, men going through ’the change’ are so hard to handle," she agreed.
Bo Xichen sighed, "Be a bit more refined."
She gave an obedient ’oh,’ then tipped back her head and asked in a soft voice, "Uncle, are you thinking about Second Uncle?"
Bo Xichen gave a soft laugh, neither confirming nor denying it, just patting her head affectionately.
The little sweetheart happily snuggled into his arms, cuddling close to him.
Bo Xichen patted her gently, "You’re all grown up and still so clingy."
"If you cheer up a bit, I’ll stop clinging and go play with guns with Chen Ming," she said softly.
He laughed, "In that case, I guess I shouldn’t cheer up too quickly."
She looked up at him and smiled.
He smiled back, patting her, "Alright, I need to look at some documents. You can go play."
Gu Anxi hummed in acknowledgement, and Bo Xichen added, "Min Xin is at the hospital; you can check with the nurses about him."
The little sweetheart immediately asked, "Is he injured again?"
Bo Xichen sat down with a smile, "Zhou Yu is here for a prenatal check-up."
As he spoke, he seemed to be reminded of something and pulled her into his arms without saying anything else.
The little sweetheart stammered, "Are you envying others?"
He did not deny it, but bluntly said, "Sort of."
"I’m still young," she said quietly. "Only 21 years old."
Bo Xichen chuckled, "Then, claiming you were willing to have a child, was that just to appease me?"
The little sweetheart made no sound, just obediently leaning on his shoulder. After a moment, as if she’d made up her mind, she said, "Then, we should have one."
She thought for a moment, then found it a bit strange and asked him, "What will we do if everyone fights over our child then?"
Bo Xichen smiled lightly, "It’s the first child; your mother-in-law won’t let anyone take it away."
The little sweetheart considered it. That’s true, she mused.
She remained silent, obediently leaning on him for a while, before she set off to find Min Xin.
Min Xin had been having a tough time lately, serving Zhou Yu like a queen. Zhou Yu was pregnant at an advanced age, considered a high-risk pregnancy, so she needed to be careful with everything.
Once matters in Beicheng were settled, Min Xin was practically living at the Zhou Family’s house, making his bed on the floor, so to speak, and hardly daring to do anything. He started by humbly sleeping on the downstairs sofa before his ’accommodations’ improved to the upstairs sofa. Whenever Zhou Yu needed something, he would instantly wake up and tend to her.
He was in a truly subservient position.
He proposed to bring Zhou Yu back home, but Zhou Yu refused, not ready to forgive him.
Min Xin had no choice but to endure it. In just a few short days, he had lost a significant amount of weight. It was quite pathetic; he no longer looked like the vibrant young man he once was.
Gu Anxi slowly approached. Zhou Yu saw her first, and with a mix of surprise and delight, she immediately stood up, "Anxi."
Gu Anxi helped her and said softly, "Be careful, you’re carrying a child."
Min Xin also admonished, "Yes, be careful. You’re in a delicate condition."
Zhou Yu glanced at him, and very naturally said, "You really didn’t have to come."
Min Xin touched his nose and said, sounding a bit put out, "How could I not come? I can’t rest easy knowing you can’t look after yourself properly."
The nurse to the side was trying to suppress a smile. Gu Anxi felt somewhat... indescribable.
Zhou Yu just gave him an odd look and said nothing more.
Gu Anxi walked a circle around Zhou Yu with her hands behind her back, then observed, "It seems your belly has grown a little."
Zhou Yu said, a bit embarrassed, "The baby moved last night."
"Really?" Gu Anxi said, a hint of envy in her voice as she placed her hand on Zhou Yu’s belly. After a moment, she gently asked, "Why isn’t it moving now? Is it asleep?"
Zhou Yu looked down, her voice soft, "It doesn’t move all the time. It probably just moves a bit when it’s happy."
Nearby, Min Xin listened, practically drooling. Zhou Yu hadn’t mentioned any of this to him; he was only just finding out now that his daughter could move. Excited, he rubbed his hands together, eager to feel it too.
Zhou Yu glanced at him, and he coughed lightly, lowering his hand. "I... I have some right too, don’t I? After all, I also contributed to this child."
At this, Gu Anxi laughed and Zhou Yu’s face turned red as she fell silent.
Watching his ex-wife’s blushing face, Min Xin looked somewhat dazed, every inch the devoted admirer.
When Zhou Yu was done with her prenatal check-up, Min Xin was ready to escort her home. Zhou Yu was reluctant to leave Gu Anxi, wanting to chat with her a bit more. However, Gu Anxi glanced at the time and said, "It’s getting late, I have a banquet to attend later. I’ll come to see you tomorrow."
Zhou Yu nodded, "Great, we should have a meal together."
Gu Anxi naturally agreed and escorted her to the parking lot, sighing a little as she watched the car drive away.
It was just a matter of time before Min Xin and Zhou Yu reconciled. It’s hard to untangle emotional knots, but given enough time, especially once the baby is born, hearts would inevitably soften.
Watching them, Gu Anxi sighed. It’s no wonder Uncle wants a baby, she thought. The idea of a tiny baby in the belly is quite charming, though pregnancy seems very taxing.
...
In the car, sitting beside Zhou Yu, Min Xin considerately said, "When I drop you home, I’ll head to the banquet. I might be late and will have to drink a bit too, so I won’t come back tonight."
Zhou Yu just hummed an agreement.
Actually, she wanted to tell him not to go, but since that incident, she was unsure how to refuse him—at least, not as easily as she could before.
Min Xin saw how docile Zhou Yu was and felt better. Even though he couldn’t easily approach her now, being able to see her and their growing child every day had lifted his spirits considerably.
