Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 761 - 762: A Snob is just Pretentious
Tang Yuan was rushed to the hospital. Her attending physician, Dr. Li, was in charge of the resuscitation efforts. Fortunately, she was revived just in time.
When Tang Yuan woke up, all she could see were white walls, and the faint smell of disinfectant hung in the air.
She turned her head slightly and saw Dr. Li.
Seeing her wake up, Dr. Li flashed a small smile. "Awake, are you? You’re okay now. Get plenty of rest, and do think about what we discussed earlier about hospitalization."
Tang Yuan just looked at her silently for a long while before weakly asking, "Where’s Mingzhu?"
Caught off guard, Dr. Li took a moment to understand the question and quietly answered, "Miss Gu is already here. She’s waiting outside. Would you like to see her?"
Tang Yuan nodded, then shook her head a moment later.
Dr. Li comforted her by patting her head affectionately. "You’re still just a child."
Tears welled in Tang Yuan’s eyes, and her voice turned hoarse. "Yes, she’s only twenty, still just a kid."
What would she do now?
Tang Yuan genuinely didn’t know. Despite her best efforts to plan and build a future for Mingzhu, Mingzhu resented her for it. Mingzhu thought she was wrong, and she blamed herself for being with Min Xin.
She... she had been wrong. It was as if she were inherently base; she had stolen Changqing’s mother’s happiness, flitted among the powerful and wealthy, thrown Gu Yuanshan’s kindness back in his face, and taken everything for granted.
She never expected things would come to this.
Dr. Li began in a gentle tone, "Then you should fully cooperate with the treatments, right?"
"I know my illness is terminal." Tang Yuan struggled to hold back her tears. Regret wasn’t entirely absent from her heart. She didn’t necessarily feel guilty toward Gu Yuanshan or the other men, but she felt awful for what Mingzhu would face after all the havoc she had caused.
The one she couldn’t let go of was Mingzhu.
Anxi... Anxi was so capable and exceptional. She could take care of herself, right?
Dr. Li comforted her a bit more, then stood up and signaled to the nurses beside Tang Yuan to take care of her before stepping out of the room.
Gu Mingzhu was leaning against the opposite wall. As soon as she saw Dr. Li come out, she rushed over. "Dr. Li, how’s my mom?"
With a light smile, Dr. Li replied, "Not bad. But patients always need companionship."
Gu Mingzhu bit her lip. "She... may not want to see me."
In her mind, Gu Anxi was the gem. Mom must have regretted sending Gu Anxi away. So what did that make her, Mingzhu? A spare?
Gu Mingzhu kicked the floor lightly, her voice barely a whisper. "I shouldn’t exist."
Dr. Li chuckled. "You think saying you don’t want to exist will make it so? Everything and everyone exists for a reason. You’re a young, pretty girl. Imagine what would happen to others if you didn’t exist?"
Gu Mingzhu didn’t respond. She was an intensely prideful person; her previous apology to Gu Anxi had already been a huge step for her. Now, even her mother, whom she trusted the most, seemed to favor Gu Anxi. How could she bear that?
Dr. Li knew she couldn’t resolve Gu Mingzhu’s deep-seated issues in a moment, so she said tactfully, "Regardless, Ms. Tang needs to stay calm now. Be with her and give her some confidence. It could help her hold on longer."
Gu Mingzhu bit her lip so hard it almost bled, but she remained silent.
Shaking her head, Dr. Li left first.
When she was gone, Gu Mingzhu slowly pushed open the door and entered. The sterile white hospital room was cold, and Tang Yuan’s withered appearance on the bed was a stark contrast to her former vibrancy.
"Mom." Gu Mingzhu’s voice broke into a sob...

After leaving the ward, Dr. Li went to Bo Xichen’s office. As she entered, Bo Xichen put his files aside. "How is she?"
Dr. Li shook her head. "Her condition isn’t very good, mainly due to her emotional state, which might be related to her current life situation."
She sighed and continued, "And with a daughter who gives her no peace, her illness is probably exacerbated by all the frustration. I just brought up the idea of hospitalization, and she doesn’t seem sure about it."
Dr. Li thought for a moment before adding, "Her daughter is really quite immature."
Bo Xichen smiled faintly, not particularly concerned. "Mingzhu has been spoiled since childhood; she can be a bit difficult."
Dr. Li nodded in agreement. "Now is the time for her to mature. Once Tang Yuan isn’t around, who will spoil her? She’s bound to take a few hits."
Bo Xichen turned to another matter. "As for her hospitalization, try to convince her. If you absolutely cannot persuade her, don’t let her leave the hospital."
Dr. Li understood, then commented, "I know you’re taking a personal interest because this involves Dr. Gu." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Bo Xichen just smiled slightly and didn’t say much.
There were things between him and Anxi that didn’t need to be spelled out or clarified; they understood each other implicitly...
After Dr. Li finished her report, Gu Mingzhu surprisingly arrived. She knocked timidly at the door and called out, "Brother Xichen."
Bo Xichen looked up, somewhat surprised, then asked in a calm voice, "What brings you here?"
He signaled his secretary to pour her a glass of water.
Gu Mingzhu’s face was a bit pale. Her eyes, usually quite large, were now brimming with unshed tears, making them appear even larger and lending her an innocent, pitiful look.
The secretary, being savvy, poured the water and then, after a moment’s thought, excused herself. However, she left the door ajar. Professor Bo’s reputation was paramount, after all. Besides, everyone knew his partner was quite the jealous type—generous when she chose to be, but also prone to childish possessiveness, extremely so.
At least, all the female doctors and nurses at Yunxi Hospital knew Professor Bo belonged to Little Gu. No one dared to make a move. An attractive man was for admiring, certainly—but strictly with the eyes. No other parts were to wander.
After the secretary left, Gu Mingzhu held the glass of water and whispered a "thank you." Then, she looked straight at Bo Xichen. "My mom... does she have a chance?"
Bo Xichen considered for a moment, then shook his head.
While it wasn’t difficult for him to tell Gu Mingzhu the hard truth, he had spent the whole day contemplating how he would break the news to Anxi later.
Gu Mingzhu stared blankly, seeming to fall into an even deeper daze...
After a long while, her trembling lips finally managed to utter, "How much time does she have left?"
