Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 763 - 764: The Guarantee Letter!
Gu Mingzhu was stunned. Write a guarantee letter? How to write it?
Was she supposed to write that she wouldn’t try to seduce Bo Xichen anymore? She... admittedly had that intention, but it wasn’t because she really liked Brother Xichen. She just wanted to annoy Gu Anxi, that’s all. Why did she have nothing while Gu Anxi had everything?
As Gu Mingzhu was contemplating this, Gu Anxi had already dragged her out, forcefully pressed her against the office desk, and fetched paper and pen. "Write."
Gu Mingzhu turned her head. "I won’t write."
Gu Anxi remained silent. Gu Mingzhu glanced up uneasily—
Then she faltered, because Gu Anxi was staring at her intently, her expression unreadable.
Gu Mingzhu bit her lip so hard she almost drew blood. She was somewhat scared, afraid that Gu Anxi would really kick her mother out of the hospital. She believed Gu Anxi was ruthless enough to do so.
So, in the end, she gave in and clumsily wrote a few lines with the pen.
"Sign your name," Gu Anxi snorted.
Gu Mingzhu was on the verge of tears again. "Gu Anxi, don’t go too far!"
Gu Anxi crossed her arms, glaring at her. "This is going too far? Didn’t you think about whether it was too far when you were throwing yourself at my uncle?"
Gu Mingzhu stared at her, tears in her eyes, and after a long moment said, "I don’t even like him."
After she finished, Gu Anxi grinned. "That’s for the best. Oh, add a line: ’I will stay away from married men in the future.’"
Gu Mingzhu felt insulted and stubbornly refused. Gu Anxi, of course, had her ways to force her to finish writing. Then, she even made Gu Mingzhu read it aloud while she recorded it.
Putting her phone away, Gu Anxi said, "If I find you being ambiguous with married men again, I’ll post this on Weibo."
Gu Mingzhu’s eyes filled with tears, and she ran out crying.
After she left, Gu Anxi picked up the paper, stared at it for a while, then tore it up. When she looked up, her Uncle Bo was reading documents.
Gu Anxi was displeased. "You don’t seem very affected."
Bo Xichen looked up. "Were you hoping I would be?"
He smiled and called her over.
She sat down beside him and asked softly, "What do you think?"
"Think?" Bo Xichen smiled. "Are you talking about Mingzhu?"
His little darling nodded earnestly.
Bo Xichen thought for a moment before speaking. "I don’t have any particular feelings. She’s just a kid."
His little darling fell silent, leaning against him.
Her Uncle Bo looked down. "Why have you stopped asking?"
"Asking what?" She leaned against him, whispering, "You already said she’s just a child, so what’s there for me to fuss about? I only taught her a lesson because..."
She didn’t want to say it, because these words would make her sound unimpressive— She was simply afraid that Gu Mingzhu might follow Tang Yuan’s path. With Tang Yuan gone, there was no guarantee Gu Mingzhu wouldn’t do something outrageous.
Afterward, neither of them spoke further. Bo Xichen resumed his work, and she kept him company. Or perhaps, it was more like he was keeping her company, as she was clearly in a bad mood...
「That evening, Bo Xichen took her to dinner with King Jingyao.」
When they arrived, King Jingyao was already there, with Wang Jingchuan by his side.
After Gu Anxi’s tantrum last time, he hadn’t been in the mood to see Jiang Chaoge. Old Brother Wang was a bit of a philanderer, but he was generally indifferent to whether women were around or not. Moreover, he was more interested in the project Jiang Chaoge had returned to undertake. After Wang Jingchuan made some inquiries, King Jingyao had a general idea why Jiang Chaoge sought him out; apparently, she had some leverage...
When Bo Xichen arrived with Gu Anxi and they had just sat down, Old Brother Wang silently poured him a glass of wine.
Bo Xichen raised an eyebrow in surprise, while King Jingyao calmly looked at him, then at his own little sister.
Gu Anxi leaned back in her chair, a smile on her face. "Uncle Bo, you should think carefully about whether to drink this wine. Don’t let him sell you out after you drink it."
"What kind of talk is that!" King Jingyao feigned anger. "Am I that kind of person?"
Gu Anxi’s expression turned cold. "And why wouldn’t you be that kind of person?"
Bo Xichen patted her gently, his expression warm. "You mustn’t talk back to your elders like that."
The word "elders" clearly provoked King Jingyao, but there was nothing he could do about it. He could only rub his nose before speaking to Bo Xichen, "That little rascal may speak rudely, but you have to admit she has a good nose for things."
He continued, chuckling dryly a couple of times, "Xichen, you know that development requires diversification. In terms of medical technology and academics, you’re top-notch in the country. However, we also need to engage more with the international community, don’t you agree?"
Bo Xichen understood his meaning. King Jingyao was hinting at Bo Xichen’s upcoming project in Jiang City focused on cancer research. If successful, it would benefit many. International research was ongoing, and a U.S. lab with significant progress sought a domestic partner. Evidently, Jiang Chaoge had made this connection, and King Jingyao wanted Bo Xichen to collaborate with her.
Having guessed King Jingyao’s intentions, Bo Xichen didn’t rush to refuse. He just smiled. "If Jiang Chaoge cooperates with them, she’ll probably only get a 20% stake. If that’s then divided with us, we really wouldn’t have much say."
King Jingyao smiled but said nothing.
Gu Anxi shot him a look. "Do you distrust Uncle Bo that much?"
King Jingyao sighed. "Even as a layman, I know this kind of research takes a lot of time. Clinical trials and such cannot be rushed. Even if it works out, we’ll be far behind others... unless..."
He spoke softly, "Unless you can persuade their laboratory to partner directly with us. Jiang Chaoge hasn’t signed a contract with them yet."
The little darling rolled her eyes. Damn it, so that’s his real goal!
Old Brother Wang patted her. "Why do you think I’m working so hard? Isn’t it all for you two? Think about the Bo family’s centuries-old reputation, think about Yunxi Hospital’s standing both domestically and internationally. If Jiang Chaoge gets there first, will we still have an absolute advantage?"
Gu Anxi remained silent.
Old Brother Wang looked at Bo Xichen again. "You should seriously consider this matter."
At this, Gu Anxi grinned. "There’s one way. Old Brother Wang, why don’t you just marry her? Then that 20% will be in our hands."
Old Brother Wang instantly jumped up, his old face flushing red.
Flirting is one thing, and it’s just playing along for the occasion, but how could he actually marry her just for a little dalliance?
He glared fiercely at Gu Anxi. "I’m warning you, don’t you dare tell Granny!"
Gu Anxi just made a cheeky face at him.
Just then, Bo Xichen smiled faintly. "I’ll give it a try."
King Jingyao’s eyes widened. "Xichen, are you planning to sacrifice yourself?"
The little darling stuffed a chicken leg into his mouth.
Bo Xichen gave her a reproachful look before smiling. "The lead doctor at that U.S. laboratory... I once served as his assistant. Perhaps I can talk to him about collaborating with us on this project."
"That’s wonderful!" Old Brother Wang slapped his thigh. "Xichen, I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me! Just as I said, in the medical field, Jiang Chaoge is not only inferior to you in skill but also in connections. If this experiment succeeds, who would dare look down on us? Who would dare say we lack technology or medical expertise?"
He was so pleased that Wang Jingchuan, standing beside him, also beamed and personally rose to pour drinks for everyone. Bo Xichen drank a little. The little darling obediently abstained, as she would be driving that night.
Old Brother Wang looked at her. "Now, that’s not right. Just let the driver take you later. On such a joyous occasion, come on, have at least one drink."
Gu Anxi was rather speechless but took a small sip of wine.
King Jingyao was clearly in high spirits. He even had Wang Jingchuan call Zhou Yunchen and Chen Ming to come over and share a few drinks in celebration.
Just as Gu Anxi was about to speak, King Jingyao said, "It’s a rare occasion. Yun Chen has been juggling between two women lately; he must be feeling quite suffocated."
Wang Jingchuan laughed. "Indeed. It’s a rare happy occasion. Let’s all enjoy it together."
Gu Anxi said no more. After a while, Zhou Yunchen indeed arrived, his spirits visibly high. One look and you could tell he was like a bird freed from its cage, drinking with such joy he seemed ready to take flight.
The little darling watched with wide eyes, somewhat perplexed.
Does having an extra person at home really make such a huge difference? She truly didn’t understand. Beauty Song was far more difficult to handle than Gu Mingzhu. She held Gu Mingzhu in contempt and would discipline her whenever she felt like it. Besides, Gu Mingzhu would only curse and cry. Beauty Song, however, was sarcastic and genuinely formidable. Zhou Yunchen cherished her, but after so many years, with Bo Qing between them, they truly had a difficult relationship.
However, he noticed Congwen seemed quite at ease, just like before, only now he had a devoted follower. Rather than calling Cloud his sister, it was more accurate to say she was Congwen’s shadow. When Congwen went to work, she followed; when Congwen got off work, she followed. She even drove for Congwen and cooked for him... Her own brother, Zhou Yunchen, didn’t receive such treatment, which made his teeth ache just watching. Eventually, he came to terms with it, figuring it was like Congwen had hired a high-class bodyguard.
Nearby, Gu Anxi looked at Zhou Yunchen, feeling that his situation was truly beyond words... What a miserable state. His sister wasn’t really his sister, and his wife was practically no longer his wife.
She whispered, "Uncle Bo, if we have children, will you become like Zhou Yunchen, instantly overjoyed at any invitation to drink?"
Bo Xichen held his wine glass, smiling. "Is this your excuse for not wanting children?"
