Cannon Fodder in an Era Drama — I Survive with Acting-Chapter 93: Obsession
She lowered her head and spoke in a small, almost trembling voice.
"Sister Qingya... I was wrong. I understand everything now. I know I don’t deserve to be forgiven, but... can you sign the pardon letter for me? Please? I really don’t want to go to prison."
After speaking, she didn’t dare to raise her head, simply waiting for the other’s reply.
"Dream on."
Song Qingya replied lightly with those two words.
"Song Qingya, you!"
Wen Wei could no longer suppress the storm of emotions raging within her.
"You’re deliberately toying with me, aren’t you? Watching me beg and plead with you like a dog, you must feel pretty pleased with yourself, right?"
The corners of Song Qingya’s mouth lifted into a faint, barely perceptible smile.
Gently rubbing her slightly aching lower back, she said with a calm expression, "Pleased isn’t the word."
She was merely bored and wanted to use this opportunity, before Wen Wei truly crossed the threshold into prison, to make her fully understand her own situation.
Wen Wei noticed that she had been rubbing her lower back ever since she walked in.
Her gaze slowly traveled down, landing on her abdomen.
There was a slight swell there.
She froze, her pupils constricting.
"You’re pregnant! You’re actually pregnant with Fei Jin’s child!!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Wen Wei practically shrieked the words.
"What, are you surprised?"
Song Qingya gently raised an eyebrow.
"Fei Jin and I are a legally married couple. Isn’t it perfectly normal for us to have a child?"
"But all of that was supposed to be mine!!"
Wen Wei clenched her fists, her voice thick with unshed tears.
In her eyes, the status, the man—all of it should have been hers.
’How did it turn into this?’
BANG! Wen Wei lunged forward, her heels slamming onto the floor.
Her face was savage and twisted.
But Song Qingya remained motionless, not even twitching an eyebrow.
Wen Wei’s pitiful expression from behind the iron bars was not born from genuine remorse at all.
It was because she had run out of options and could only play the victim for a moment.
Wen Wei couldn’t reach her at all. Even as she stretched out her hand to grab, she was just clawing uselessly at the air.
She could only stare at Song Qingya with bloodshot eyes.
There was nothing but resentment in her gaze.
In Wen Wei’s heart, she was supposed to be the protagonist of the entire world.
’It was Song Qingya who suddenly barged in and ruined everything!’
’This was the life I was supposed to have!’
’The one who should be kicked out isn’t me, Wen Wei, but Song Qingya!’
’What right did she have to show up and steal everything away?’
’So why am I the one locked up in here, stripped of my freedom, in the end?’
’Why did it turn out like this?’
As Wen Wei emotionally demanded to know "why," Song Qingya looked down at her quietly.
There wasn’t the slightest ripple of emotion in her eyes.
Time seemed to freeze for a few seconds, waiting for her response.
Only after Wen Wei collapsed to the ground, exhausted, did Song Qingya finally speak, her voice faint.
"Why did it turn out like this? Isn’t it simple? It’s because you broke the law. Didn’t you know?"
Wen Wei remained curled up in the dim room.
Song Qingya could see no repentance in Wen Wei’s eyes.
She could only see an obsession born of absolute ignorance.
Moreover, that expression was almost identical to how she acted in the modern world.
Still the same opinionated woman.
The only difference was that back then, Wen Wei had a management agency supporting her and an experienced PR team running interference for her.
No matter what mistakes she made, her agent would always manipulate public opinion to whitewash her reputation, allowing her to escape the consequences she deserved time and time again.
But now, she had become a woman who was just a pretty face with no mind of her own, one who didn’t even know the basic tenets of the law.
Song Qingya silently opened her system’s interface, trying to view the target’s relevant information.
She was startled to find that, ever since coming to the detention center, the profile of the person who was supposed to be a key figure still hadn’t been successfully unlocked.
Looking at the completely crazed Wen Wei before her, Song Qingya knew with utmost clarity.
’This woman, once useful, has now become completely worthless.’
Just a moment before she turned to leave, she stopped and said, "The reason I didn’t let Qi Yuzhu touch you that night wasn’t because you were pitiful or worthy of sympathy. It was because I believe no woman should have to endure such humiliation. However, the mistakes you’ve made are for the law to judge. Wen Wei, you’ll soon be transferred to Qi City Prison. There will be people there to give you some special ’care’."
Hearing this, Wen Wei was still slumped powerlessly on the floor.
"Song... Song Qingya, you’d better explain yourself! What do you mean, ’care for me’? I get it now! You’ve been in cahoots with the people at Qi City Prison all along, haven’t you? You arranged for them to torture me, to kill me!"
But Song Qingya just stood there quietly, her expression placid.
"Wen Wei, the only thing I can guarantee is that you will spend every single day and every single minute in there. You won’t be leaving one day or one second early."
Wen Wei’s eyes flew wide with anger, her face flushed red as she practically shrieked.
"What are you trying to say? Stop putting on an act and just say it!!"
But Song Qingya only left her with a meaningful look.
"Song Qingya!" she screamed hysterically.
"Don’t go! Don’t you dare go!!"
"You have to explain yourself! I’ll sue you! I’ll sue you for abuse of power, for abusing the power in your hands!"
"And I’ll sue you for colluding with the prison authorities! That’s right, I’m going to expose your shady dealings. And—and I’ll sue you for conspiring with the police at the detention center..."
Her voice was already breaking into a sob.
"You must have slipped her something under the table, right? Why else would she be so polite to you?"
Her eyes were wide and bloodshot.
"I won’t give up! I absolutely will not let this go!"
"I’m going to appeal! I demand a retrial!!"
Her shrieks echoed repeatedly in the empty, silent detention cell.
She was locked away in this solitary cell.
Surrounded by nothing but cold, hard walls.
...
Song Qingya walked out the door.
The gentle breeze that greeted her slowed her steps slightly.
Warm sunlight fell gently on her face as she took a slow, deep breath of long-missed fresh air.
This old-fashioned detention center, built in the last century, looked exceptionally run-down.
Although the floors were clean, it was hard to hide the building’s age.
Song Qingya had been inside for less than half an hour, but she already felt uncomfortable all over.
In contrast, Wen Wei would have to stay in this place for some time longer.
At least until her official sentence was passed down and she was sent to a regular prison to serve her time.
’Let her reflect on her own here, all alone.’
’Let all the past impulses, obsessions, and frustrations slowly turn into peace and clarity.’
Officer Hu, who had accompanied her inside, looked at Song Qingya’s unusually calm face, and a trace of doubt couldn’t help but arise in his heart.
He frowned slightly, his gaze lingering on her unconsciously.
