Chapter 98: Breakthrough

Becca groaned in dismay. Although she desperately wants to find Deborah alive, she also knows that the current times are dangerous for women so it will be for everyone’s peace of mind if she follows her family’s order not to pursue the matter for her safety. She doesn’t want to add to the problem by being the next victim. "OK, fine. I will no longer do some digging on my own. I will leave the searching to the men." She finally relented with a sigh.

"Good girl," Luna Adela said, pleased with her daughter’s answer.

Becca took a deep breath. "Grams, Mom, what do you think is happening to Deborah right now? Do you think she’s still alive or dead already?"

Grandma sighed. "I’m still hoping she is still alive..."

"Me too," Luna Adela released a troubled sigh. "Let’s hope for the best and prepare for the worst. If she is fine and that guy did not harm her she should be home already, right?" she added gloomily, losing hope already.

"Yeah, because she had a son waiting for her she should be home now," Grandma said, shaking her head sadly. "Baby Zed alone is reason enough for her to come home...yet she’s still out there being held captive by a stranger against her will."

"And we might never see her alive again," Becca said dispiritedly, already starting to accept that bad things had already happened to her friend.

The three women began feeling guilty about any small unkind words they had said to Deborah before she disappeared. They felt like they were not able to treat her right in the last few days of her stay in the house.

They felt like they had neglected Deborah and left her alone to swim in her own misery. They were not concerned enough to ask how she felt and if she was okay. Deep in their hearts they somehow failed her.

The women left the living room and went to their respective rooms, feeling guilty for what had happened to Deborah.

Meanwhile...

In Alpha Maxwell’s room. He can be seen pacing back and forth in the middle of his room as anxiety hits him hard. He was still clutching the photo of the guy, staring at his face several times.

Should he chat with Zero and ask for his help in finding the stranger who kidnapped his wife?

Would the facility be willing to help solve his problem?

It doesn’t matter, he will try.

He grabbed his phone from the bedside table and sent a message to Zero.

A few minutes after sending the message, Zero came online.

Alpha Maxwell: Hello Zero...

Zero: Yes, it’s me at your service. What can I help you with, bro?

Alpha Maxwell: Um, I need your help...

Zero: Oh, what kind of help? Alright...fill me in.

Alpha Maxwell: I can’t find my wife Deborah after she disappeared while partying with her friends in the bar. She and the guy she met in the bar entered her car and they were never seen leaving the car together according to CCTV footage in the parking area. So I presume the guy has teleportation power and can teleport anywhere. That’s just my theory.

Zero: Ah, so you want me to find any information about this guy?

Alpha Maxwell: Yup... but I doubt if the facility would allow you to take direct orders from me.

Zero: Um, you are right. Honestly, the facility wants to get rid of Deborah and Edison so you and Naomi can be together again and live happily ever after. So why would the facility help you now that your wife is already out of the picture? One less problem to deal with.

Alpha Maxwell: I know...but I’m still hoping you can help me with my problem. Do you know anyone? A guy who can teleport?

Zero: Personally no. But I have some contacts on the black market and in the underworld. My contacts know so many things that the majority of us don’t know about. Such as who are the powerful beings who belong to the dark that are now walking in the city in broad daylight, undetected by many and for what purpose they are doing such things...well...we never know. More like this contact of mine knows something about the secret society of the supernatural world where powerful beings are meeting in secret, holding meetings and so on.

Alpha Maxwell: Maybe your contact knows someone who has the ability to teleport?

Zero: My contact probably knows what you are looking for. Can you send me his photo if you have one?

Alpha Maxwell: Sure, I have a photo of the suspect but it’s blurry. I don’t have a clear picture of him right now. It was just taken from CCTV footage taken in the parking area where my wife vanished without leaving a trace.

Zero: Just send it to me. I will ask my contact if he saw the guy at the secret gatherings of powerful beings hidden in the dark.

Alpha Maxwell: Okay, I’ll send you his pic. If you can help me find him I will give you a huge cash reward. No need to inform the facility about our secret transaction. It’s just between you and I. Do you understand?

Zero: Yeah, sure! 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Alpha Maxwell: Okay give me a moment. I will capture the suspect’s photo with my phone and send it to you so you know how he looks like.

Zero: OK, take your time.

After the photo upload of the suspect was finished...

Zero: The pic is blurry indeed. I mean the guy’s photo is not clear.

Alpha Maxwell: Yeah, that’s right.

Zero: Alright, I will go to my contact and ask him if he saw anyone in the secret society who resembled the suspect who kidnapped your wife.

Alpha Maxwell: Thank you bro.

Zero: I can’t promise you anything but I’ll see what I can do for you. I will message you right away if I already have some information about this guy. Bye for now.

Alpha Maxwell: Bye...

The men ended their chat.

Alpha Maxwell switched to his private chat with his sweetie pie.

Alpha Maxwell: Hello sweetie, are you there?

Naomi: I’m here, waiting for you. I’m eager to hear about Deborah’s update. How is the search going?

Alpha Maxwell: Terrible, we don’t have leads...

Naomi: Oh, sorry to hear that. Are the police already involved?

Alpha Maxwell: Yup, but I’m sure they will also have a hard time finding the suspect.

Naomi: I hope your wife will return home safely one of these days. I’m sorry I can’t help you with your problem.

Alpha Maxwell: It’s okay, sweetie pie. Just chatting with you already cheers me up.

Naomi: How’s baby Jacob and Zed?

Alpha Maxwell: They are safe, taken care of by Grandma, my mom and the nanny.

Naomi: Okay

Alpha Maxwell: How about you and Edison? How’s life nowadays?

Naomi: We’re both fine. Edison is already working at my father’s company and always comes home late and goes to sleep right away.

Alpha Maxwell: OK

Naomi: I miss baby Jacob so much.

Alpha Maxwell: Later I will take photos and video of our son and send it to you.

Naomi: Thank you. I’m excited to see his latest photo.

After the couple finished chatting, Alpha Maxwell lay down on the bed for a much needed rest.

He can still remember the ghastly sight of the women’s decomposing bodies in the morgue, keeping him awake. The sight of the mutilated bodies flooded his mind, preventing him from sleeping.

Ugh! Those dismembered bodies...the same thing could happen to Deborah if he can’t find her ASAP!

He groaned in dismay. The kidnapping of his wife is eating him up inside, making him edgy and tense. Unlike his and Naomi’s kidnappings in the past, they were treated right and given food three times a day. Although they were imprisoned in a windowless room, it was clean with a bathroom and a TV. They had each other to talk to. They were not tortured or harmed physically.

How about Deborah?

How is her situation right now? He refused to think that the suspect might already be torturing his wife right now or worse she was already dead.

He needs to find Deborah the soonest possible time before it’s too late to save her.

But where to find her? He had no idea where.

Dammit! He uttered a string of profanities under his breath out of anger and helplessness. He was hating his current situation, struggling to find answers in the dark.

Since he can’t have a rest, he might as well take a photo and video of her son and send it to Naomi.

Alpha Maxwell went to Grandma Franchia’s room and bonded with his son baby Jacob, taking several pics of him in his crib, and recording a 3 minute video and then sending them all to Naomi. After uploading the video and photos, he told her that he would leave the house and roam around the city, hoping to find Deborah or the suspect.

A few minutes later, Alpha Maxwell can be seen driving his car around the city with no particular destination in mind.

Tired of endless driving, he went to public places such as parks, shopping centers, and busy streets and watched the multitude of people walking on the streets, desperately hoping he could see the suspect among the people walking on the street.

At night, he and his father would drive their cars in different sections of the city with the suspect’s picture in hand, actively looking for him. They would visit bars, clubs, restaurants and other live music venues hoping to get a glimpse of their suspect.

But despite all their hard work and efforts...the suspect never showed himself in public again which makes it very difficult to find him, considering he can teleport anywhere at his whim.

The police authorities, the father and son duo and including Deborah’s family’s desperate search for her whereabouts yielded no results.

Even Zero has difficulty establishing contact with the guy in the underground world because the guy suddenly stopped communicating with him for some unknown reason.

Becca never stops monitoring the latest news if there are recent dead bodies of women found dumped somewhere.

Time flew by so fast.

The Burke family and Deborah’s family are losing hope as days go by with no news about Deborah’s whereabouts despite offering a $2 million reward for anyone who can provide important information about her abduction.

Two weeks after Deborah’s disappearance came the breakthrough that they desperately had been waiting for.
