Chapter 628: Aren’t You Tired?

"XIU, I’m sorry for taking so long," Ye Qiu apologized with an exhausted sigh. "This matter is more complicated than I expected, but the good news is, I managed to discover something about the X serum."

"Thank you for your hard work." He Juan told her earnestly, "And please, don’t apologize. You have been an invaluable help for me, or else I don’t even know who I should turn to for help. Is it possible for you to tell me your findings now?"

"I think it’s unwise of me to speak about it through the phone. I’m flying to China tomorrow, so we should talk again when I get there."

"Alright," He Juan complied readily. "Be careful, they might have their eyes on you already."

His solemn warning elicited a mirthful snort from Ye Qiu. "Who do you think I am?" After saying that, she hung up on the phone.

"Was that Miss Ye?" Chen Youzhi inquired.

"Mn, she’s coming to China tomorrow." Taking a deep breath, He Juan raised his head skyward and squinted his eyes against the evening sun. "We need to complete our preparations beforehand. I have a feeling that things will get messy real soon."

The key jiggled, and the door rattled a bit before swinging open, followed closely by a low chuckle. "Haa, they’re all fucking dimwits. If they keep this up, how are they going to find this place? Right..." he kicked off his shoes haphazardly and entered the house to find a familiar silhouette seated on the couch, engrossed in watching television.

Ku Jin grinned sharply, "...darling?"

Crunch!

Jia Molei bit into his cucumber with a crisp sound and chewed on it loudly, acting as though he heard nothing at all. His gaze remained fixed on the screen which was displaying the evening’s soap opera, seemingly absorbed to the point of neglecting his surroundings. But Ku Jin knew that the man heard him just fine, for he had been acting like this ever since he was taken away from the harbor – pretending as if Ku Jin did not exist.

However, Ku Jin did not mind in the slightest, because he knew precisely how to push Jia Molei’s buttons.

Sauntering toward the man, he plopped himself down on the couch and snatched a washed tomato from the fruit bowl on the table, biting into it. As he had used too much force, the juices splattered everywhere, some landing on Ku Jin’s shirt and even reaching Jia Molei.

The corner of Jia Molei’s brow twitched.

Grinning, Ku Jin let out an almost dirty moan. "Hmm~ it tastes so good!" He leaned closer to Jia Molei and whispered, "How is it? Is yours as good as mine too? Tsk, what’s so good about a cucumber? Don’t tell me you’re just craving something that has the same shape as it?" His voice carried a teasing lilt.

The veins on Jia Molei’s forehead throbbed. He flicked an annoyed glare at Ku Jin, only to receive the shock of his life when he found himself staring at a young and delicate face belonging to a woman in her twenties. "Holy fucking shit—"

The half-eaten cucumber flew out of Jia Molei’s hand and slapped Ku Jin right across his face. Jia Molei clutched his chest that was still shaken from the fright and exclaimed angrily, "What the hell, dude?!" Due to his sudden movement, the chain connected to the binding around his right ankle crinkled noisily, though the sound was drowned out by Ku Jin’s loud guffaw.

"Oh God, you should have seen your face!" He laughed so hard that he nearly toppled off the couch, clutching his aching stomach.

Clenching his jaws, Jia Molei glared daggers at him. It wasn’t the first time Ku Jin returned with a different appearance; he practically changed his look every four or five days. But all this time, he had consistently disguised himself as a man – whether it was a young teenager, a middle-aged salesman or a bearded old man, he could pull them off flawlessly.

This, however, was the first time Ku Jin had attempted to assume a woman’s appearance. Fuck, imagine hearing such a deep and baritone voice coming from a lolita face! Jia Molei was going to have nightmares about this for sure! 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

He cringed in disgust at the half-eaten cucumber on the couch that had touched the bastard’s face, but in the end he still took it once more, patted it with his hand as though wiping away all the invisible bacteria before munching on it.

"What trouble are you getting up to this time?" he regarded Ku Jin with blatant repulsion.

"Hmm, not ignoring me anymore?" Ku Jin teased, prompting Jia Molei to respond with a roll of his eyes. Twirling his long hair, Ku Jin batted his lashes at him. "How is it? Am I not beautiful? I think I pulled off this look better than the original person. Don’t you agree?"

Jia Molei gagged, gesturing as if he was about to vomit. It was his fault, he shouldn’t have responded to this bastard to begin with. Averting his gaze away, he returned his attention to the television and resolved not to give any reaction regardless of how Ku Jin provoked him.

"Tsk," Ku Jin clicked his tongue, knowing that Jia Molei was going to ignore him again. Propping up his chin, he stared at the man’s side profile for a moment before exclaiming, "Come to think of it, you won’t believe who I met today!"

With an evil grin, he leaned closer and whispered to Jia Molei’s ear, "XIU."

He felt exhilarated and annoyed at the same time when Jia Molei visibly tensed up – exhilarated because he had once again thwarted Jia Molei’s attempt to ignore him; annoyed because the reason behind it was none other than XIU. More often than not, Jia Molei would only react once XIU was mentioned in the conversation. And because Ku Jin was annoyed, he decided to annoy the other person too. "Have you heard? It seems like he has regained his memories, but forgot the last seven years of his life. Oh dear, what an ingrate. He will not remember anything you have done for him~"

Jia Molei shifted his gaze skyward as though begging the heavens to grant him a huge dose of patience for the sake of his long life. Releasing a heavy sigh, he tossed the poor cucumber into the fruit bowl and turned toward Ku Jin, looking at him properly this time.

"Let’s talk," his voice was monotone with no visible emotions whatsoever, nor did he curse, which was very unlike him. "How long are you going to keep this up? Aren’t you tired of playing house, Ku Jin?"
