Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 688: Crooked And Bitter
His omega father had been forcibly dragged to this place while pregnant, and in an attempt to facilitate a smoother delivery, they granted him this room with a large window— a privilege that others couldn’t even dream to obtain.
Alas, who the hell could maintain a joyful mood when they were confined against their will?
Luo Xuan had been experimented on since he was in his father’s womb. He heard it was an extremely agonizing experience, but he knew nothing about it, of course. Because his Omega father was enduring it all for him.
Under the constant stress, duress and depression, Luo Xuan was born a premature baby.
He was born into a world of darkness, in an oppressive environment where one knew nothing but despair and pain, thus his name. Growing up, his early days revolved only around his omega father, this tiny room, and the countless experiments that caused him nothing but soul-crushing pain. But at that time, he was so naïve to think that it was all normal, that it was how life was supposed to be— an endless cycle of hardship, agony, numbness and his father’s tears.
"I’m sorry," he would always whisper into Luo Xuan’s ear, hugging him tightly after he returned from yet another session that left him paralyzed in bed. Tears fell unstoppably from his dim eyes. "I’m so sorry, A–Xuan. Father is so sorry for bringing you into this cruel world."
"Sometimes, I can’t help but blame him," Luo Xuan let out a bleak laugh. "If he’s truly sorry, why did he still give birth to me? He should have killed me early on. Then neither he nor I have to suffer for so long."
Actually, he knew it deep down. Father Luo gave birth to him because he could no longer endure the loneliness and depression of this place. He longed to have someone who would remain by his side, who would share his joy and sorrow, who would become his strength to go on.
Omegas were delicate and emotional creatures, after all. After being separated by his Alpha, if he were to lose his child as well, Father Luo would surely go insane.
It wasn’t like Luo Xuan only had unpleasant memories of this place. When he closed his eyes, he seemed to be able to see the two of them together— Father Luo cuddling him and teaching him how to read and write, Father Luo clapping for him and praising him with a dazzling smile when he managed to finish his homework, Father Luo singing lullaby for him whenever he was in too much pain to fall asleep...
They were all his precious memories.
Luo Xuan scoffed bitterly. "Perhaps that’s why I kept delaying my plan to burn this place down, as I feel like I would be destroying those memories as well." He lowered his gaze, a melancholic smile gracing his lips.
"Cough cough— what the hell are you talking about?!" Tak Jung-Hwa couldn’t comprehend his cryptic words. Noticing that the ceiling was starting to collapse outside, he grabbed Luo Xuan’s arm, hollering, "Come on, it will be too late if we don’t leave now!"
However, Luo Xuan swatted his hand away. He remained in his seat, showing no intention of leaving. "It’s not like I will survive even if I leave this place," he sneered, his voice growing hoarse due to the smoke. The rims of his eyes reddened, though it was uncertain whether it was due to the fire or tears.
"Leave," he coldly chased Tak Jung-Hwa away. "Just leave and pretend you saw no one. Just take it as the last favor you’re doing for a dying man, alright?"
"What the fuck do you want me to do?!" Tak Jung-Hwa was so angry by the omega’s unreasonable demand that he couldn’t help but cuss. "Just because life doesn’t go your way, you’re ready to burn yourself alive?! Ha! I never pegged you for such a considerate person. Come on," he seized Luo Xuan’s arm once more and yanked the omega up to his feet, his tone leaving no room for rebuttal. His furious eyes bore down on Luo Xuan. "I don’t know what’s going on in that head of yours, but you’re mistaken if you think I’m leaving you here. You’ve got a lot of sins to atone for, so don’t think you can escape punishment by dying!"
"Sins..." Upon hearing that, Luo Xuan couldn’t help but laugh, but he ended up choking on the smoke and coughed so hard that blood seeped out of his lips.
Is it a sin to be born in this world? Is it a sin... to yearn for the world he could only glimpse through this window?
Tak Jung-Hwa’s eyes widened at the sight of crimson liquid staining the other person’s lips, and he spared no time in throwing Luo Xuan over his back as if he was carrying a sack of potatoes. "Hold on tight! Don’t you dare die on me!" was all he said before he braced through the raging sea of fires.
By then, Luo Xuan’s consciousness had become a blur. A sharp pain attacked his chest, causing him to wheeze for breath.
As the room was getting further and further, Luo Xuan’s mind uncontrollably drifted back to the night when Father Luo brought him away from this place. It was raining heavily just like today, and Father Luo hastily shoved a few pieces of clothing into a backpack before telling Luo Xuan,
"A-Xuan, let’s go! We need to leave this place before they send you away tomorrow! Father has secured some assistance, they will help us get out of here!"
"Leave...?" Eleven-year-old Luo Xuan was stunned upon hearing those foreign words. "W–Where are we going? Why... must we go?" He shrank in on himself, feeling timid and nervous at the notion of leaving the only home he had ever known. For him, this research facility was his whole life.
Father Luo paused for a second before he dropped the bag, turned around and clutched Luo Xuan’s shoulders tightly. His eyes were brimming with resolution and anger unlike anything Luo Xuan had seen before on his weak and soft-hearted father. "Of course, we have to leave, A-Xuan. If we don’t, you will face a life worse than death!"
Realizing that he had frightened his son, Father Luo closed his eyes, took a deep breath and flashed a reassuring smile. "It’s okay, A–Xuan. Don’t be afraid, Father will always be here with you. Once we’re out of this place, I promise... only happiness awaits you."
Their lives changed drastically since that day, yet at the same time there did not seem to be any difference either. They still only had each other to rely on, still had to live each day in anxiety and fear, still had to struggle to make it through.
Not even a year later, Father Luo died in the hands of the hunter, and Luo Xuan lost control of his pheromones for the very first time, killing their enemies on the spot.
Liar... Luo Xuan thought as his eyelids fluttered shut, tears clinging to his lashes. What a liar you are, Father. I am not happy. Since leaving this place, there is not one day where I have ever felt happiness. Without you, I grew up crooked and bitter. I have become a spiteful villain whom everyone despises.
Even so... would you still be willing to meet me?
