Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Legal Work

"10K is simply too little. To even set things in motion would require me at least 50,000 credits." Justin said.

"And what exactly will you do with 50,000 credits?" Mater said.

"Well. Let’s just say the late mother... You have my sincere empathy. The late mother of Miss Isles here did leave an inheritance for her. There would need to be a lawyer that witnesses it. A legal institution that certified it. Only then would such an inheritance be legal." Justin leaned forward and whispered. "To do all of that we’ll need documents. Historical evidence of the mother’s approval. A lawful bank account that had a record of the deposit.

It is not a simple task."

The black cat jogged slowly on the table, listening to Justin’s explanation. He sounded reasonable but Mater knew there was something off about it.

The black cat’s deep voice echoed once more, "It’s too complicated. Here’re the things you need to do.

Set up an account to make the credits eligible. Then used these mobile credits as a direct inheritance from her mother. Selina inherited these mobile credits directly from her mother. Understood?"

"But that would raise suspicion." Justin said.

"What suspicion? Mobile credits are untraceable, yes? No one knew where they’re from or who they once belonged to. That’s the point of mobile credit. So. As long as she has a good reason to explain this. It should pose no problem. You only need to turn them from mobile credits to digital legalized credits."

"Wouldn’t they question her statement?"

Selina stood up and grabbed Justin’s tie. Her eyes were rather sharp and sweet at the time. A thorn rose that would bite you if you came too close.

"I am a Bronze Hunter. My mother is a Neutralizer. Who would question me?"

"Right..."

Justin slowly backed off and leaned at his chair, "10k is enough."

"And our protection, Justin. You’ll have our protection. Is there someone you need to deal with? Some previous partnership that went wild?" The black cat’s deep voice echoed.

"Haha..." Justin sweated, "There is no such thing."

"I see you don’t trust us yet." Mater said, "Just remember. If you’re in trouble. You can contact us. We believe we are much more trustworthy than the criminals you work with.

And do you know what is the best part?"

"What?"

"If you work for us, you work for the government. You will no longer be a criminal lawyer anymore. A clean white sheet. And all you need to do is wash your hands and walk away." Mater’s sweet words poured into Justin’s ears.

He opened his mouth and spat out 10,000 credits on the table. His Demonic Arsenal was extremely useful and had no issue storing a lot of stuff.

"Your payment. When you finish, give us a call."

The goth and the black cat left the office, leaving Justin sitting in silence. His eyes stayed fixed on the pile of mobile credits.

"These government hounds! They’re all the same!" Justin scoffed. "But their offer is not that bad."

Justin Mei was not a ’clean’ lawyer. He was corrupted. And he had dealt with many criminals before. Some partnerships had turned incredibly sour that he had to watch his footings all the time.

Mater and Selina weren’t that much better. They didn’t even give him that much to work with. 10,000 credits were a tiny amount for his taste.

However, working for a government related Psychic had its benefits. Especially for Justin. Those past partnerships might not be a problem anymore.

Justin looked out the window and watched Selina leave on her motorcycle. He rubbed his chin slowly.

"Maybe those two are better partners. But I need to know for sure that they won’t stab me in the back. This job can be a perfect test."

Justin closed the blinds of the window.

After the visit to the lawyer, Selina and Mater continued their journey to finish the remaining bounties that they had accepted.

The pair had only completed half of the bounties that they accepted.

They arrived at the location of the next bounty. It was an abandoned house in a deserted area of Aeliz City.

"Is this another Iron Rank Bounty?" The black cat meowed.

Selina nodded. She was checking the bounty details on her phone.

"Some kids went inside the house to hunt ghosts. They even recorded some videos and posted them on the internet. Very popular. They were so popular that the DSI got hints of it and established a bounty.

Oh... We just received the reports for our bounties yesterday."

The 15 bounties yesterday were all Iron Rank. Most of them were in Slum Slopes.

Usually an average Iron Rank bounties could give 100 to 1000 credits and 1 to 20 tokens depending on the danger of the mission and mission completion rate. Some yielded much more like the case in Onoke Swamp but that was an exception.

In total, Selina completed 8 NCE confirmed cases and verified 7 false positives. The total reward was 9,000 credits and 40 tokens. 5,000 credits and 20 tokens were coming from the Haland Boys Bounty.

However, because Selina was a Bronze Rank, her reward was reduced to 4,500 credits and 20 tokens.

"My entire reward just got sliced in two for no reason." Selina said.

"We are big kids bullying small children after all." Mater meowed softly.

The reward from the government might be lower. But the true reward, those Chaos Spheres that Mater collected weren’t impacted. Thanks to them, all of his servants would be level 10 very soon.

"The saying is right. Us women really don’t know how much is enough. If it was me from before, I would be full of joy seeing this amount. Did I really turn bad, Mater?" Selina whimpered softly.

She picked up the black cat and pet his soft smooth fur.

"Señorita... You have nothing to worry about. You did change. But it was all for the better. You are no longer that weak pathetic girl that didn’t know what to do anymore. You’re stronger now."

Mater petted Selina back on her cheek. The cat looked extremely funny trying to be comforting. In Selina’s eyes, he just looked ridiculous and completely unhinged.

It made Selina smile.

"Hah..." The goth girl rubbed her face on Mater’s soft fur. "Now I know why there were so many cat ladies."

"You can stop now..." Mater stared into nothingness while being woman-handled by Selina.

They continued walking into the abandoned house.
