Chapter 172: Chapter 172: A Small Favor

Justin sat in his office and rubbed his temples.

"Ugh! This asshole! I helped him get out of jail and now he wants more from me!"

Justin breathed heavily but he knew he couldn’t do anything about it. He was simply a lawyer. And they were very dangerous mobsters. Even have some psychics of their own.

The phone on the table rang, which caused Justin to jump up in fear.

He quickly recomposed and picked up the phone.

"Yes?"

"The goth and the cat from before are here to see you again."

’Them?’ Justin widened his eyes. He still remembered Selina vividly from the last time. Or rather, he remembered Mater, that aggressive black cat that thought he could do anything.

Justin had actually arranged the paperwork for Selina’s case quite thoroughly. There were only a few steps left for him to finalize the fake inheritance.

However, he did not have the time to do the rest because of the criminals that were bickering at his tail.

Justin was a criminal lawyer. This term had two meanings. He defended criminals and was also a criminal himself. Well, being a criminal was an exaggeration. He never actually broke any law.

"Should I let them in?" The lady at the front desk said.

Justin covered the microphone. He rolled his eyes around. Thoughts quickly ran around in his mind.

’Maybe they can help me? The cat did say that he would help me if I needed him’.

"Let them in," Justin spoke to the phone.

Justin readjusted himself and leaned back to his chair.

Soon, Selina and Mater entered the office.

"Hello, Mr. Mei." The black cat’s deep voice echoed.

"Hello, Mr. Mater." Justin said.

Selina pulled the chair and sat down at the opposite of Justin. Mater jumped onto her lap. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"I think you know why we’re here." Selina said.

Justin nodded, "I do. I have been working hard regarding your case, Miss Isles."

"When can we expect the process to be done," Mater stroked his cat’s whiskers.

"Soon. A few days. However..." Justin prolonged his words.

The black cat grinned widely, "You scratch my back and I scratch yours. Just tell me what you need."

"Excellent!" Justin rubbed his two hands together.

Justin had recently helped a mobster of a mafia gang to get out of trouble. The guy had murdered a girl in his manic state. Coincidentally, that girl was the daughter of a Police Sergeant. This had led to the mob unable to use the usual ’street’ solution to make the issue disappear.

It forced them to meet the case in court.

The mob might be very powerful but they were still criminals. Their strength couldn’t be compared to the government. They wanted to avoid any direct conflict with the police as much as possible.

Justin had used a doppelganger and tricked a witness, successfully winning the case for the mobster and bailing him out of jail.

Justin did his part and now the mobster wanted more.

"What does he want, you ask?" Justin said. "He wants me to get some money from another country because all of his boys are under surveillance by the government. But I am not."

Mater had already jumped onto Justin’s desk. The black cat walked around with its tail waving gently in the air. He listened carefully to everything.

"You don’t want to do this job?" Mater said.

"It’s illegal!" Justin said. "I can admit that I am not a goody two-shoes. But everything I’ve ever done is legal. I dance on the border of the law perfectly. That is what I’m good at."

"Technically legal." Selina added.

Justin rolled his eyes, "Well. Are you going to help me?"

"Names and their information." Mater said.

Justin took out his phone and placed it on the table.

"Everything you need is in there."

"After we deal with this issue for you, Justin, we hope that our little request will be accomplished." Mater said.

"Certainly. I am a man of my word."

"Very well. Here for a fruitful partnership in the future."

Mater opened his mouth, letting Crow jump out from the Dark Grimoire within his Demonic Arsenal.

The Abyssal Abomination grabbed the phone, before disappearing in front of Justin’s eyes.

"Where did he go?" Justin jerked back.

"To take care of the issue." The black cat smirked.

The Luciente Family wasn’t an actual ’family’ like the Zakharovs or the Von Schattenbergs. It was a mafia family with their members not exclusively having blood ties with the family.

Some of the patriarchs of the Luciente Family had been outsiders with no relations at all to the Luciente name.

That day, Thomas Moriarty was sitting in his office with a cigarette in his hand. He leaned back to his chair while looking at the made man in front of him.

"You’re sure Justin agreed to do this?" Thomas said.

"Of course, Tommy. Don’t you worry. That pussy will do anything we say." Ben said.

Thomas flicked his cigarette to get rid of the excess ash. Then he pointed his finger at Ben, his voice was low and calm but all the way intimidating.

"Justin Mei is a very capable lawyer. He could be very useful for us. Upsetting him will not give us much benefits long term."

"He’s just a lawyer." Ben chuckled.

"A lawyer that knows too much and is cunning enough to still walk free after helping criminals like us. What if he decided to rat us out?"

"I doubt he dared to do it. It’s a simple job anyway." Ben shrugged.

Thomas gently rubbed his temple while taking a puff from the cigarette. These made men were his soldiers. But sometimes they drove him crazy with how stupid they were.

"Tommy! Someone wants to see Ben!" A young man appeared at the door.

"Who?" Thomas raised an eyebrow.

Crow stood in the middle of the mobsters. They looked at him with provoking gazes and didn’t hesitate to mock the man.

"What with that fedora, fella? Who even wears them these days?"

"Are you a cop? Who sends you here?"

Aside from telling them about Ben, Crow didn’t say one word. His white glowing eyes carefully scanned everyone. His eyes were hidden beneath the goggles so they couldn’t see what’s different about them.

A mobster reached his hand toward Crow’s fedora.

Crow caught the wrist and twisted it. The mobster immediately crumbled and let out a painful grunt.

"Don’t touch the hat." Crow said.

"This fucker!"

The mobsters rushed at Crow.
