CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 190: Ascendant
The black cat could hear its bones popping inside him. Bulges of bones raised above the skin, distorting his fur.
Selina gasped.
Aurora rushed over. "You shouldn’t see this."
Aurora tried to cover Selina’s eyes but Selina pushed her away.
"I can take it."
Mater didn’t grow a pair of wings or turn into a whale. But he did squirm for quite a long time on the ground. He growled non-stop because of the pain.
"God Damnit! Why do these spells have to change in such a painful way?!"
Selina watched everything as her heart quenched. It was painful to see her little cat in pain.
Luckily, it didn’t last long. Mater stood up after a few minutes.
"I’m alright now." The black cat’s deep voice echoed.
Selina squatted down. She raised her hand above his head gently and was about to pet him. But she’s afraid that she would hurt him.
"Come on now. I’m fine."
The black cat pushed its head to Selina’s arm. It was still soft and fluffy as yesterday.
Selina smiled. "You were in so much pain, Mr. Mater."
"A simple price to pay for power. But look what I can do now!"
The black cat floated up and flew around Selina. He could fly without using the Dark Grimoire or expending any Chaos. The only thing he needed was simple concentration and stamina.
The cat rolled on the ground a few times before landing on the ground.
’It’s good. The spell even has a new ability to manipulate my own weight. That would be very useful in the jaguar form.’
"Let’s finish everything here and get out, Selina." The black cat said.
Selina nodded. Under Mater’s instruction, she approached the miniature sun and leaned the Flame Staff over.
All the flames flew out and reached inside the staff. The staff was slowly transforming once more.
The gold around it slowly transformed into bird-like feathers.
In the end, the staff became a beautiful staff with golden feathers sticking out on its body. The tip of the staff formed an enclosed space from a pair of wings. Inside them were the bright yellow fireball.
The miniature sun disappeared, revealing a mechanical sphere with a hollowed core.
Inside the core was a man. He was burned beyond recognizable characteristics. Only his humanoid silhouette was readable.
The octagram in Mater’s eyes shined brighter as he scanned the man. There was no Chaos inside that man. He wasn’t a Chaos User.
But he was something else.
"Fuck." The black cat muttered.
"Ready for battle, servants. Selina. Get out of here now."
Selina widened her eyes. In all of their battles, Mater never told her to do that. She instantly knew it was something very serious.
The goth girl reinforced her body with Chaos Flesh. She turned back and ran as quickly as she could. She disappeared into the maze.
The burned man twitched. Ashes fell down from his body. He was waking up.
Mater spat out 52 Chaos Spheres. They split into four groups of 13 each and flew inside the body of his servants and the helmet. Their Chaos Wells were filled to the brim and they still had reserves left for emergency energy.
Mater flew backwards, stayed furthest in the back. The Dark Grimoire floated right in front of him.
Bash stepped forward as the front line.
Crow disappeared, fulfilling his assassin’s role and waiting for the perfect time to strike.
Aurora stood on the ground, right beneath Mater.
They were in battle formation.
"I smell... Chaos!" The burned man spoke.
"Crush that thing, Bash!" Mater didn’t wait for the villain to finish their speech and ordered the Infernal Demon to charge through the mechanical sphere.
Bash broke through the sphere and rammed at the burned man. He continued to pick him up and slammed him through multiple walls inside the maze.
They pushed him through the opposite direction of Selina to avoid the battle reaching her.
Everyone knew it wasn’t that simple.
A thunderous explosion was heard. Bash flew backwards in high-speed. His heavy body scraped the floor of the maze for dozens of meters before stopping.
There was a smell of cooked meat on him.
Bash was a demon with the power of the hell of fire. Normal fire couldn’t hurt him. Hellfire couldn’t hurt him.
There was only one fire that could do that.
The black cat squinted its eyes.
"God Fire..." Mater’s deep voice echoed.
The burned man walked through the large hole. His entire body lit up in a bright yellow flame. His hair was a ruthless fire that constantly dried the air of the surrounding.
"I didn’t think there would be a Heretic here." The man smiled.
The black cat replied with another smile, "Not even a sage. Just a Rank-2 Ascendant."
The burning man was at the highest level of Rank-2 though. While Mater was only at the first ten levels.
"How disrespectful. I am a chosen warrior of God. You shall refer to me as Lord Crane."
"Which God?" Mater snickered.
The man squinted his eyes. He was pissed off by that comment.
Mater had faced many Fate User in his past life. Most of them were Knights or Priests that followed a certain order of a god.
There were stronger beings that had a closer bond to the god and therefore were more powerful. They’re called Champions of the God. This one was one of them.
Level 20 Key of Hunger Warlock versus Level 40 Ascendant of Holy Fire Champion.
"Prepare to die, Heretic." The burned man spread his arms wide. A pair of fire wings shot out from his back.
The black cat spat out a water bottle that he kept inside the Demonic Arsenal and broke it open.
The water inside transformed into two identical black cats. Mater assigned them each with Chains of Shadow and Elemental Shield.
The one with Elemental Shield would have the role of protecting and supporting the other members.
The one with Chains of Shadow was to find a good opportunity to restrain the Champion. Even if the spell would be very ineffective.
Mater transformed into a big black jaguar. His large white teeth were shown as he growled loudly.
"Today is not the day I die. Not again." Mater said.
