CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 212: Integrators
P.S.I. stood for Psycho Stream Integrator. It was a piece of device that could connect with the Psycho Force directly and helped Psychics in using Psionics.
Mater saw it as a type of Magical Conduit of the modern world. It served the same function and operated exactly the same.
There were many variations of PSI devices and each had a unique appearance to it. There were tablets, bracers, even some forms of accessories like bracelets or rings. The latter was, of course, much more expensive than the ordinary one.
The Institute didn’t produce Psycho Stream Integrator. Instead, these devices were manufactured by private companies or independent craftsmen.
"There are quite a few suggestions on the school websites for the PSI. Which one should we go to?"
Selina opened her laptop and showed Mater the options they had.
The black cat leaked Chaos into the interweb and surfed the online space. He could easily find even the deepest of controversies that these private companies hid and chose the best one for Selina.
"Uh... Why are they all bad?" The black cat meowed.
"Is it that bad, Mr. Mater?" Selina said.
"To a certain degree, yes. These devices don’t last long and break down all the time. This requires the buyer to come back many times to maintain the PSI."
"And these maintenance aren’t cheap, I suppose?" Selina said.
"You are absolutely right. Why don’t we give each of them a visit and see how they are in real life?"
"That’s a good idea."
Selina and the black cat went on the motorcycle and visited the manufacturers. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
They tried the top three popular manufacturers that the Institute recommended. The first one was called J-WOL.
There were quite a few J-WOL stores inside Aeliz. Most of them were disguised as third rated mobile phone stores that looked very ordinary on the outside.
Selina arrived at a J-WOL store and entered their garage. When she entered the elevator, instead of choosing a floor. She pressed "6", "1", "6". Then a handle popped out from the control panel which required a Psychic to pour their Psycho Force inside.
This type of hidden pathway was made popular because of the Institute. Now every Supernatural Organization used it as a way to allow Psychics to enter their establishment.
Selina poured Chaos inside the handle. The elevator activated and went straight down, into the actual J-WOL Hub.
When the elevator opened, there was already a girl standing there waiting for her.
She bowed respectfully, "Welcome to J-WOL Psionics. Are you here to browse or do you need maintenance?"
"Browsing. I need one for the ISP."
The girl’s eyes lit up immediately. "Oh? Are you a freshman this year?"
"I am."
"So lucky. A lot of people want to enter the Institute. Please follow me. I will show you the latest model we have."
Selina followed the girl into the Hub. The place was designed to look like a luxurious gallery with the Integrators being placed in glass boxes.
"Our PSIs are designed to look like a phone and operate like a phone. So not only would you be buying a PSI. You are also buying the latest, most advanced mobile device out there. You won’t need to worry about disguising your PSI at all.
Here are our latest models."
The girl pointed at a sleek beige-colored smart phone.
"This is the J-WOL Nebula S32. The standard base model."
The girl pointed to a slightly larger smart phone with a black color.
"This is the J-WOL Nebula S32 Plus. It had a higher battery life and a better Stream Processor, allowing you to use much more powerful and many more Psionic Skills."
The girl then stopped at a slightly smaller smart phone with a red color.
"This is the J-WOL Nebula S32 Ultra. Featuring a folded screen."
The girl picked up the phone and unfolded it.
"It had the best Stream Processor out there. A top of the shelf Wave Disruptor. And also the best mobile device you can find out there."
Selina lifted Mater closer and whispered into his ear, "What do you think, Mater?"
The black cat jumped onto the girl’s shoulder and placed its paw upon it.
’What is this shit? I have never seen such a bad creation in my life. This thing would surely break in the heat of battle.’
The black cat jumped back to Selina’s shoulder and growled deeply.
"Useless devices. Let’s get out of here."
"Okie dokie."
"Hey, wait! There are more..." The female seller’s attempt was in vain as the goth girl had already disappeared with her cat.
"A Magic Conduit is a very important thing. It will be a difference between life and death. We must choose it wisely." The black cat meowed.
"I understand, Mr. Mater."
The pair climbed on the motorcycle and rode off.
They tried the second store. It was called Orange Informatics Incorporation.
Orange’s stores were built on the surface with the top levels only accessible to Psychics.
Selina used the same method with the elevator to arrive at the top levels.
Another female seller met her and showed her their available Psycho Stream Integrator devices.
While J-WOL made the PSI look like a phone, Orange’s PSIs were jewelry. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, etc. Each with its own designs and look.
Orange focused much more on the appeal than the function as all the PSIs had the same hardware. But they were much more pleasing to the eyes than the smartphones J-WOL was selling.
"Loretta?" Selina noticed an acquaintance.
"Selina? Are you here to buy your PSI too?"
"I am. I checked the J-WOL store earlier but Mater didn’t like those devices."
"Oh? What about the pieces here?" Loretta asked.
The black cat whispered to Selina’s ear. She nodded a few times before turning back to Loretta.
"These things are just as bad. They are more reliable but do not qualify as good Integrators at all."
"Oh gosh. My cards tell me the same thing. What should we do now?"
"Where’s the shorty? Doesn’t she need to buy a PSI too?" The black cat meowed.
"Mater is wondering where Becky is." Selina said, "She should be concerned about buying a PSI too."
"Let me call her." Loretta picked up her phone and called Becky.
"It’s me, Becky. We’re buying Integrators... What? We shouldn’t buy from those stores? Where are you buying it then?"
