CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 258: Octagram Nether Beam
Selina opened her hand. She used Mater’s Chaos to call upon the water at the underground river. An Elemental Shield quickly formed in front of her.
It was not as large and dense as Mater’s shield but she had successfully used a Rank-1 Warlock Spell.
"This is so strange..." Selina kept her eyes closed.
She saw another painting inside the dark red space. The painting of the Octagram Chaos Eyes. For some reason, that painting didn’t hurt Selina that much. Maybe because she also had her own version of Chaos Eyes, a lower and weaker version.
"I can see the painting of your eyes. It is almost... inviting me." Selina said.
"A faint link?" The black cat meowed, "Does it hurt you by looking at it?"
"A little bit. But I have a feeling I’ll be okay. Should I?" Selina said.
"We gain nothing if we risk nothing," The black cat grinned, "Go for it."
Inside the dark space, Selina reached her hand out to the Chaos Eyes painting.
In the real world, Selina shrunk. She groaned quietly.
Mater watched everything but didn’t cut the connection. Selina was still able to hold on.
Blood leaked out from Selina’s eyes as she felt the burn slowly creeping onto them.
Selina opened her eyes. Her usual red irises were normal. Instead, her irises were black with an octagram in each of her eyes.
Her Octagram Chaos Eyes were different from Mater. Mater’s eyes were completely black with the octagram in the middle. Selina still had white sclerae, only her irises changed.
"You’re alright?" Mater said.
"It is putting a strain on my body but I can maintain it for a while..."
Selina looked around the Underpark. She couldn’t help but open her mouth wide, "Woah!"
The Underpark was filled with Chaos. Dense dark red Chaos. All of them connected to Sparrow, who was practicing the song with Evelynn.
"It is beautiful." Selina said.
Chaos danced in the air like dwarf stars in the sky. Her vision allowed her to also see Chaos. But it was never this detail. Never this alive.
"So this is how you see the world." Selina said.
"A part of it, yes." The black cat nodded.
Selina looked over to the water shield that she had made. She could see the complex structure within it. The Chaos that made it. It was something that a Psycho Matrix could never be compared with.
Within the shield was a web of unrelenting Chaos.
"You made this thing?" Selina said.
"Technically... You made it." The black cat meowed, "Through my power."
Selina reached her finger toward the water shield. It had no problem penetrating the shield and touching the intricate Chaos structure within.
"Can I try something else?" Selina said.
"Of course. Which one do you want?"
"Hmmm..."
Selina closed her eyes again. Her eyes returned to normal and the water shield disappeared.
In the dark red space, the goth girl looked at the thirteen Rank-1 paintings. The black chains for Chains of Shadow. The cage for the Page of Imprisonment. The mouth for Desperation Scream. And the seven remaining paintings.
"I wonder if I can use this..."
Selina touched the Desperation Scream spell.
"That one?" Mater’s voice echoed in the dark red space. His Octagram Eyes hovered above the space like two large suns, "It’s a good offensive spell. But it lacks range."
In the real world, Selina opened her mouth and screamed. A sound wave shot out and blew the debris in front of her away.
"This is so much more powerful than the skills I know." Selina said.
But it wasn’t her power. It was Mater’s. She only borrowed it. She knew they were very distant in strength. But to actually feel it. It really gave her a certain desperation.
"How can I even be compared to you, Mr. Mater?" Selina said.
"Don’t overthink it. We don’t know how strong a Psychic can be. I see many supernatural pathways. Way to become higher beings. Some can be very weak early on but much more powerful later on.
Warlock plays it safe with a balanced arsenal and tools. But maybe Psychic plays a long game."
Selina smiled. She reached her hand out to pet Mater gently.
"You don’t need to comfort me. I’m not sad."
The black cat purred to her touch.
"I’m not comforting you. I’m just stating a fact. We don’t know how powerful you can be. Your path doesn’t determine your fate either. I’ve seen knights as weak as a peasant and peasants that could strike down an army.
Only you can decide your fate. That is the Warlock way."
"That sounds good. I like that mindset." Selina smiled.
The goth girl continued to try other spells that the Dark Grimoire had. She and Mater quickly found out that Selina couldn’t use more than two Rank-1 spells from the Dark Grimoire at the same time.
If she used Desperation Scream and Chains of Shadow, she could only use them exclusively. If she wanted to use other spells, she had to return to the dark red space and switch her options. That process could extend from a few minutes to an hour depending on which spell she chose.
The more powerful the spell, the longer it took for her to gain its access.
In the end, Selina and Mater decided to keep Octagram Chaos Eyes and Elemental Shield as her default spells. One was for detection and the other was for protection.
Still, Selina wanted to try that dark beam that Mater had.
"I want to try Nether Beam!"
"You can try it. But only once. If I feel something is wrong. I will disconnect the link." The black cat’s deep voice echoed. He was extra serious this time.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Mater!" Selina kissed the cat on the cheek, "I will be extra careful."
Selina returned to the dark space and made a connection with Nether Beam’s painting. It was long. Much longer than the Rank-1 Spells. She wasted two hours to equip it.
Selina began to breathe heavily. Just the fact that she held the spell in her body already made her tired.
Selina didn’t use her mouth like Mater. Instead, it felt different inside her body. Elemental Shield was unequipped so she had Octagram Chaos Eyes and Nether Beam left.
The Psycho Pact had a reaction unknown to Mater. It had led to the two spells differing from their original versions.
The Octagram Chaos Eyes returned to Selina’s eyes. The red octagrams turned purple as the power of Nether focused at her eyeballs.
The octagrams began to spin. Dark veins spread to the corner of Selina’s eyes.
"Nether Beam!"
Two purple beams shot out of Selina’s eyes.
