Celestial Human Diagram-Chapter 89 - 79: Transaction
After the operation to capture Scarface concluded, Chen Chuan returned to his daily training routine.
He went out for basic training in the morning, returned to practice his Force Technique and Orthodox Scattering Hand, and maintained his Breathing Technique nonstop at night, squeezing in time to practice his Saber Techniques as well.
Since he needed to engage in armed combat, he had consulted Cheng Zitong. The latter gave him a certificate that allowed him to spar with students at the training hall and the Military Combat Department. He planned to go practice whenever he had time, lest he obtain his Weapon Permit but still be unfamiliar with using it.
However, a problem began to surface. Because his training sessions were far longer than those of an average student, he consumed a large amount of training-enhancement drugs every day.
’If this keeps up,’ he thought, ’my semesterly drug allotment will probably run out in another month or two. After that, I’ll have to buy them with my own money.’
’Even if I can get them at cost from Cheng Zitong, the total for a whole year won’t be a small sum. I need to find a way to take on more commissions.’
He checked his Second Self. The etherealness that had appeared after capturing the Well Doll was still there, but he could feel it growing fainter. It was clearly weakening. ’Maybe I should wait a bit longer. Once it disappears completely, I can try asking Cheng Zitong for a second assignment.’
That evening, he returned from practicing his Saber Techniques and began to clean and maintain his blade with a special oil given to him by Madam Ni.
The more he practiced his Saber Techniques, the more proficient he became. But gradually, he also began to sense something very different about this saber. It was easier to channel Power through it, which was normal, as it was likely a weapon forged specifically to accommodate the use of Power.
However, he also sensed that there was something more to it—something he hadn’t yet identified or mastered. He couldn’t say what it was, but the feeling was undeniable.
He was halfway through maintaining the blade when the dorm supervisor called from outside, "Chen, you have a phone call."
Chen Chuan had a good idea who it was. He went to open the door, thanked the supervisor, and walked over to the public phone. Picking up the receiver, he said, "Hello, this is Chen Chuan."
Just as he expected, Wei Chang’an’s voice came from the other end. "Junior, Scarface has talked. We’re luring Tong Qianjiang into a trap tonight, and you have to be there. If it’s convenient, I’ll pick you up at seven p.m."
Chen Chuan said, "Alright, Brother Wei. I’ll be waiting here in the dorm."
After hanging up, Chen Chuan returned to his room. He glanced at his watch. It was not quite six-thirty, so he had half an hour. He continued to slowly wipe down the blade. Once the oil was fully applied, he gave it a slight flick in his hand, and a cold glint of light flashed from it.
His maintenance complete, he sheathed the blade in its Sword Scabbard, then went to the washroom to freshen up. After changing into some clothes for going out, he headed downstairs.
It was not yet seven, and though it was already dark outside, the streetlights were on. As he walked out, Wei Chang’an’s sedan pulled up. Wei Chang’an greeted him from inside, and Chen Chuan walked over, opened the door, and got in.
Wei Chang’an backed up, turned the car around, and drove out of the school gates onto the main road. He then took out a few forms and handed them to Chen Chuan.
"Junior, these are the forms for the last commission, including the captures of Brother Tian and Scarface. Sign all of them, and after I submit them, I can get you the receipts. The payment will be sent afterward. By the way, you have a bank account now, right?"
"I do. I’ll give you the account details later, Brother Wei."
Chen Chuan took the forms and a pen and signed his name on each one. Despite being in a moving car, his hand was steady, and his signature wasn’t skewed in the slightest. When he was done, he handed the forms back and asked, "Brother Wei, you don’t seem to be in a good mood today?"
"You could tell?" Wei Chang’an said in a self-deprecating tone. "My old man always says that even though I’m good with people, I can never hide what’s on my mind. He says I’ll never accomplish anything big if I don’t fix this flaw."
’I don’t know about other things,’ Chen Chuan thought, ’but you certainly didn’t hide this well, Brother Wei.’
Wei Chang’an carefully put the documents away and let out a breath. "The lead for this mission to capture Tong Qianjiang has been replaced."
"The company used the excuse that I sustained too many losses during the previous capture operations and that many people were seriously injured, so they’re having someone else lead this mission."
"They even pushed my original team off the mission and replaced them with their own people."
He looked at Chen Chuan. "If you weren’t a primary participant in the mission and the key figure in both captures, Junior, they would have cut you out too."
Chen Chuan knew that conflict was unavoidable everywhere. ’Someone’s clearly swooping in to take the credit,’ he thought. There was nothing he could do to help.
He thought for a moment and asked, "Brother Wei, for this capture of Tong Qianjiang, did Scarface reveal his whereabouts?"
Wei Chang’an shook his head. "No, Scarface is still laid up. You were ruthless, Junior. He’s not dead, but it’s almost impossible for him to return to a normal state. Luckily, we have Truth Serum, and we used it to make him talk about a few things."
"Actually, Scarface mostly just had control of the drugs Moustache Chou left behind. The person actually in charge of communications was his subordinate, Tian Yaozu. He knew most of the details. The kid agreed to cooperate, so we used him to regain Tong Qianjiang’s trust and arranged for him to come for a trade tonight to pick up the drugs. As long as Tong Qianjiang shows up, the mission is basically a guaranteed success."
’No wonder,’ Chen Chuan thought. ’The company picked the perfect time to interfere. At his current client level, Wei Chang’an obviously has no way to defy them.’
He watched the road for a while, then asked, "Brother Wei, are we going to Xigang District this time?"
"Yes," Wei Chang’an said. "The meeting point is in Xigang District, the same place we first spotted Tong Qianjiang. The company has already set things up. As long as he shows up, we’ll definitely get him."
Twenty-some minutes later, the car arrived at an abandoned factory in Xigang District and drove directly inside. From the outside, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but the interior was brightly lit, clearly powered by a generator.
Wei Chang’an said, "To avoid alerting Tong Qianjiang, we’ll park the car here. We have to proceed to the designated spot on foot."
As the sedan drove further in, they saw that many other vehicles were already parked inside the factory. He said, "They all belong to the company."
After they parked, Chen Chuan got out and asked, "Brother Wei, forgive me for asking, but who’s the one replacing you as lead on this mission? Is it someone from the company’s Upper Layer?"
Wei Chang’an shut his car door and said mockingly, "Hu Shiguang, the company owner’s second son. All the commissions he’s done in the past were completed by other people for him. The boss just handed this one to his son so he can pad his resume."
"Anyone can see this is basically a freebie. If they catch him, they can use this mission to follow the trail and find Fang Dawei’s group. His professional standing will shoot right up. The boss is paving the way for his son to take over the company."
He shook his head again. "When I become an Advanced Client, I’m definitely going out on my own. I’m done mixing with this crowd. But let’s not talk about that. I can’t let my problems ruin your mood, Junior. Let’s go."
After leaving the factory, Wei Chang’an took out a flashlight and led the way down a weed-choked path. Chen Chuan saw that he was walking quickly and figured he must have been here before.
After walking for about a kilometer, they arrived next to another abandoned factory. On the surface, there seemed to be no one around, but Chen Chuan could feel numerous eyes, both hidden and in plain sight, watching them.
Wei Chang’an walked to a side door and knocked. "It’s Wei Chang’an. I’m here to see Mr. Hu and ask about tonight’s arrangements."
After a short wait, the door opened. A man who looked like a team leader stood there, followed by a security guard. He first looked at Wei Chang’an, then at Chen Chuan, and asked, "Mr. Wei, who is this?"
Wei Chang’an shot him a sidelong glance and said, "You don’t recognize him? This is my junior, Chen Chuan!"
