Chapter 78: Lovestruck Scar

The man finally sat on his chair, he sighed and stared into the small framed picture on his table. It was the picture of a woman with brown skin and black braided hair.

"Oh, Johanna, what am I doing?" I got you killed, got our first daughter killed," he muttered, shifting his gaze to another picture, one of a younger woman who was a brunette. "Our second daughter probably despises me, and now, i’m dealing with otherworldly beings. But soon... I’ll be with you again."

*******

Henry was sweating profusely as his arms swinged forth and back constantly, with intense speed, without any intention of stopping. His legs pounding the belt of the treadmill as he ran on a spot, a determined look etched on his face as beads of sweat trailed down.

He was training on the hyper mill, and somehow, he was getting exhausted. But something noticeable around his surroundings was that nothing was moving, everything was silent except for the sound of the treadmill’s whirling. Everything else was unmoving and silent.

Henry kept running, gritting his teeth as his pace began to slow down. "No! Not yet," he muttered, trying to increase his speed. But it was all in vain as his movement only kept slowing down, he was too tired.

"You should stop," a voice came from the distance. "Your body can’t take it anymore, don’t push yourself to hard, darling," it was a soft and gentle voice. It was Felicity, and she was watching Henry from the bar.

"No! I.. can.. keep going," Henry voiced out, his loud, rapid breathing disrupting his words.

"Yes, you can. But not today," Felicity replied, before snapping her fingers. And suddenly, the treadmill increased in speed, it’s belt spinning with a louder whirling sound.

Henry’s eyes widened as the speed of the treadmill increased, he couldn’t keep up with it’s movement, he tried hard to but he couldn’t. After a few microseconds of trying, he lost his balance and flew off the treadmill, falling flat to the ground.

Felicity burst into laughter as Henry fell, she stood up from her seat and approached him. "And that is why, you should always listen to your mother," she giggled

The surroundings became normal again as Henry stood up from the ground, the natural and artificial elements regaining their melodious sounds, and time resumed it’s obstructed duty.

"Ha Ha, very funny mum," he muttered with a sarcastic laugh. "You know, you could’ve just pulled out the plug like a normal person,"

"Heh! What’s the fun in that? Besides, i felt it, you were going to pass out at any moment," Felicity chuckled

Henry shook his head pitifully, he had no choice but to endure her shenanigans. But she was right, Henry would have indeed passed out if he continued running.

[Stamina: 3]

Henry sighed deeply after reading the system notice, he definitely would have passed out. To make his training more challenging, Felicity had Henry make use the time perception skill, causing his stamina to drop rapidly. And this always made him exhausted quickly.

"But hey! You beat your record," Felicity said with a smile, handing him a stamina recovery serum.

Henry’s face brightened as he collected the bottle. "Really?" he asked with an excited expression, before pouring the contents of the bottle into his mouth

Felicity nodded. "Yeah, today, you lasted 3 seconds," she stated

Henry had a wry smile drawn across his face, he had indeed improved, but it didn’t sound so. "Yesterday, it was 2.2 seconds," he muttered. The reason why it seemed so small was because anytime he ran on the treadmill, he would activate the time perception, making time a lot slower in his surroundings. Thus, affecting the timer as well.

And he had been doing this for almost a week, as it had been six days since the day he tried to sneak out of the house. And it had been non-stop, brutal training.

"Alright, come on. You’ll try again tomorrow, and maybe i’ll make the timer not get affected by the phenomenon, that should cheer you up," Felicity said with an assuring expression

"Yeah, that’ll probably cheer me up," Henry sighed. "So where to? The simulator?" he asked

Felicity shook her head. "No, i was thinking that today, you try out the velocity circuit,"she said with a mischievous grin

"I have a bad feeling about this," Henry thought, but there was nothing he could say or do about it. He simply sighed and nodded. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Good! I’ll give you some time to fully regain your stamina, you’ll need it," she stated, flashing a smirk.

Henry took a deep breath and walked towards the bar, he grabbed an energy drink from the refrigerator and sat next to Felicity, getting lost in his thoughts.

"Oh Henry, how did we end up in this situation? A month ago, i could never imagine myself here with her." he stated in his mind. "But i guess, it’s kinda nice to have people you care about, plus, i like the feeling of being cared for," he smiled, recollecting the message Alicia had sent to him the other night.

....

[Dear big black,

Don’t reply to this message because where I am now, chatting with boys is prohibited. So yeah, let me just say my piece.

First i want to say, you are a big baby! If you like a girl, you ask her out. Not play some stupid emotional game with her. Anyways I’m not angry, cos i know you didn’t mean any of what you said. Trust me, you do not want to see me angry. So in short, I’ve gone to Gaea to train with my cousins for the exam. But when i get back, you owe me a date, especially after what i’m going to do for you. I’ll see you soon, make sure you still have that Sapphire Sonic’s beast crystal, i think i might have an idea on creating something with it. So good luck Henry, try not to miss me. Kisses, Alicia]
