CEO, Your Wife Has Left-Chapter 38: Bastard Kenneth Yates
"8 PM. Vexx." A smile played on Dominic Thorne’s lips as he stared at his phone. ’Who sets a blind date at a bar?’ he mused. ’Looks like she has ulterior motives.’
When Summer Lancaster and Melody Donovan arrived at Vexx, they saw a man sitting at the designated table. His back was to them as he elegantly sipped his wine. Summer felt he looked a little familiar but couldn’t quite place him. Melody pulled her into the seat across from him, and then her jaw dropped in surprise.
"It’s... it’s... it’s you!" Melody Donovan could barely contain her joy. It clicked for Summer then. He was Dominic Thorne. She had seen him at a banquet once, but Kenneth Yates had said he wasn’t a suitable partner, so she’d never mentioned him to Melody. To think they’d run into him at a blind date, of all places.
Melody’s grip on Summer Lancaster’s hand tightened, and she was so excited she was practically bouncing in her seat. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Hey, Sister-in-law. What brings you to a blind date?" Dominic Thorne set down his glass, ignoring the excited girl beside her. His eyes landed on Summer Lancaster. ’What kind of woman does it take to conquer Kenneth Yates?’ Dominic was incredibly curious.
"I’m here with my friend." Summer Lancaster looked at him. ’He must already know about my relationship with Kenneth,’ she thought, ’but hearing him call me ’Sister-in-law’ is so weird.’
Dominic Thorne turned to the girl beside Summer Lancaster and politely extended his right hand. "Hello, I’m Dominic Thorne."
Melody Donovan let go of Summer and shook his hand. "I’m Melody Donovan." ’I can’t believe I’m really seeing Dominic Thorne again.’
"Melody, come here for a second." Summer Lancaster pulled Melody to her feet and led her aside.
"Lancaster, what’s wrong?"
"Melody, listen to me. Dominic Thorne isn’t the same college senior you used to know. You can’t keep living in the past. He’s a total playboy; he’s not right for you." Summer was deeply concerned, afraid Melody was flying straight into a flame, destined to get burned.
"Lancaster, I know."
Summer Lancaster looked at the grinning Melody. ’Does this girl really get it?’
Back at their table, Dominic Thorne had already ordered drinks for them. The thought of Kenneth Yates made Summer Lancaster grab her glass and start drinking.
An hour later, Summer Lancaster was drunk and clinging to Dominic Thorne’s arm. "You... you’re so much more of a gentleman than Kenneth Yates. He’s a bastard." Dominic froze. ’She’s probably the only person on earth who dares to talk about Kenneth like that.’
"Sister-in-law, let me take you home." ’She drank this much today... she must have fought with Kenneth,’ he figured.
"Home? What home? I don’t have a home. Where’s Melody? I’ll go to her place." Melody was already passed out drunk, leaning against Dominic and fast asleep. Summer tried to stand, but her legs gave out and she tumbled back onto the sofa. Looking at the two women, Dominic felt a headache coming on. He pulled out his phone and dialed Kenneth Yates’s number.
"Boss, you’ve got to come get Sister-in-law. I can’t handle this."
"What? Summer Lancaster is with you?"
"We’re at Vexx. She’s drunk! Get here quick!"
"Who are you calling? Are you telling that bastard Kenneth Yates?" Summer Lancaster snatched his phone and ended the call.
"Hello? Hello?" Kenneth Yates hurled his phone. He had heard Summer’s voice. ’I can’t believe she’s at a bar, completely wasted!’
Ten minutes later, Kenneth Yates arrived at Vexx.
However, when he saw Summer Lancaster still clinging to Dominic Thorne’s arm, his eyes blazed with fury. Terrified, Dominic tried to pull his arm away, but Summer’s grip was too tight.
"Boss, this isn’t my fault! I was here for a blind date and just happened to run into Sister-in-law! Don’t be mad, please..." ’It’s just been one disaster after another lately.’
Kenneth Yates yanked Summer Lancaster off him. She immediately latched onto Kenneth’s arm, her entire body hanging off him.
"Boss, if there’s nothing else, I’ll just be... going now." ’This is not a place to linger,’ Dominic thought. ’Best to make a run for it.’
"Take the other girl home." Kenneth Yates glanced over at Melody. ’She must be the one who’s liked Dominic all these years. And she’s Summer’s good friend. I can’t just leave her at the bar.’
"Yes, Boss." Dominic Thorne scooped up Melody Donovan and left the bar.
