CEO's Reborn Wife-Chapter 18 - 26: A Good Realization
"Heading out?" James Black had already noticed that Jane Sampson had changed her clothes and even applied light makeup, "Where to?"
"Looking for a job," Jane Sampson tried to make her tone sound very ordinary before she picked up a set of bowl and chopsticks and sat down opposite James.
"Good realization," James complimented Jane, and then he glanced at the time on his watch before standing up, "I’ll return to the team, call me if you need anything."
James didn’t inquire about what kind of job Jane was preparing to look for; in his mind, Jane, being a music major, would probably be looking for a job related to the piano.
As soon as she heard James was leaving, Jane quickly put down the chopsticks in her hand and stood up almost subconsciously, much like a young wife standing by his side before her rebirth, ready to hand him something and then see him to the door.
But after she stood up, she felt rather foolish when she saw James had already grabbed his stuff and was heading towards the door. She shuffled in the direction of the door, hesitating about whether or not to go over to see him off. When James straightened his back, glanced at her, and left without saying a word, Jane stood there by herself, let out a little chuckle, and thought, well, it’s not a big deal not to see him off; after all, he didn’t say anything, did he?
This morning’s trial made Jane decide that in the future when James left the house, she should just keep doing whatever she was doing.
She tapped her head, reminding herself she was someone planning to divorce James. Why should she tiptoe around him? If he couldn’t tolerate it, he could bring up the divorce himself!
Anyway, him not being able to handle the real her was just a matter of time.
After eating and cleaning up the bowl and chopsticks, Jane happily left the house, drove straight to her good friend Nina Rice’s company.
Nina was a friend Jane had played with since they were kids. They had been desk-mates since middle school and remained so until they graduated from high school. Nina went abroad to study law, while she pursued music, separating them for a few years. After their graduation, both returned to their home country, where Nina joined her mother’s company as an intern lawyer, and Jane married James directly.
Since Jane had skipped a grade in elementary school, she graduated from university early and was actually nearly two years younger than Nina, but this slight age difference didn’t prevent them from being friends for many years.
When Jane arrived at the law firm, Nina had just finished a meeting. Coming out of the conference room and seeing Jane standing at the doorway waiting, she rushed over to Jane in her high heels like a gust of wind.
"What wind has blown Mrs. Black to me this morning? I was startled when I received your text message saying you were coming over," Nina pulled Jane into a bear hug, "Feels like it’s been some time since I saw you, even though we both live in the same city, it’s like the city itself segregates us into two places."
"You’re so busy being a hot mess, seeing you is rarer than a blue moon," Jane rolled her eyes at Nina and then pushed her away, "Stop hugging me, it’s scorching! I need to talk to you about something."
"Let’s go to my office," Nina released the bear hug and linked arms with Jane, jesting as they walked, "I heard from Peter Gingery that Brother James Black came home yesterday? Did Brother James make you so happy yesterday that you can’t stand my hug today?"
"How about saying that in front of James? Picking on a scaredy-cat like me, what kind of courage is that." Jane roughed up Nina’s shoulder-length hair, "By the way, I remember you have a cousin who’s an agent, right? Can you introduce me to her?"
"I’m the wimp here, I’m even more timid than you," Nina admitted, acknowledging she became a well-behaved baby who dared not breathe too loudly in front of James. However, at Jane’s request to meet her cousin, Nina let out a curious sound, "Why do you want to meet her? Are you thinking of debuting as a big star or something?"
