Chaos Carrier With A Broken Talent-Chapter 46: Story of the Scar and the Seal
One place could have many purposes, depending on the people who decide to come to it.
Some were unaware of all the dangers and were looking for a way to obtain the Element Spark.
Some wanted to prove that they were worthy of the path of the sword. This could be done by defeating warriors of equal skill.
But some hoped to see their father one more time, even though he was long dead.
With trembling hands, Aime lifted Willor’s head to look into her father’s eyes one more time.
It didn’t matter to her that she was holding the head of a dead man and that half of Willor’s face was mangled from Ethan’s strike. She could still see the same features, the wrinkles and the scar on his cheek.
She knew very well where that scar came from.
It wasn’t a battle wound, no, Aime was the one who left it.
’Hah. You showed me how to cook, but in the end, this is what happened.’ Aime muttered to herself with a slight smile on her face.
She remembered how happy she was to slice a few tomatoes, but she was too inexperienced and turned sharply, accidentally cutting Willor’s cheek wide and deep.
Like any child, she was ready to cry when she saw her parent’s blood, knowing that she was the cause.
What did Willor said?
He laughed so loudly and joyfully that Aime didn’t notice how all her anxiety disappeared.
"Hahaha! My daughter will be a warrior! What more could a father want?!"
Aime remembered her father’s words forever.
Ethan was right, Willor was a good father. If instead of laughing, he had scolded Aime and blamed her, it would have broken her.
However, he made mistakes in his life as well. One of them led him to this situation, where his head was resting in Aime’s hands.
Step. Step. Step. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Ethan approached Aime, holding the cross pendant, cracked in two.
"I’m sorry, it looks like this thing won’t work anymore."
Aime took the pendant and nodded.
"Thank you, I don’t know how it became an artifact, most likely the energy influenced it, but my goal was not to obtain an artifact. I just wanted to return a family heirloom."
"I see. Does this pendant have any special meaning? Just curious."
"Yeah..." Aime glanced at the pendant. "It was a gift from my mother to my father. That’s why this pendant stayed with him until the very end, twice."
No matter how important this moment was for Aime, the trial continued.
"Guys!" Klaus’s voice rang out behind them as they turned around.
In his hands was a large coin with five empty sockets.
"Hmm? What’s that?"
Klaus looked at the coin, which was the size of two palms, with confusion.
"I don’t know..."
[Grim Seal
A protective device against powerful thunder strikes. It can create a barrier strong enough for three participants, but each grim shard inserted into the socket increases the number by one. When all sockets are filled, this seal can protect up to eight souls.]
Ethan raised an eyebrow suspiciously, glaring at Klaus.
"Didn’t you say we had to get more grim shards? You didn’t mention anything about this seal."
Klaus scratched the back of his head, caught off guard.
"This... I don’t know anything about it. Looks like the rules have changed!"
"Is that possible?" Aime asked incredulously.
Klaus waved his hand. "Looks like it. This is the first time I’ve seen or heard of this thing!"
Ethan’s suspicions grew as he narrowed his eyes.
’Hmm, he’s either lying or he doesn’t know. Either way, it’s not good news.’
Ethan didn’t know Klaus well enough, but it was plenty to come to that conclusion.
’Most likely the latter. Tsk, why can’t everything go according to plan?’
Slash. Slash. Slash.
At the same time, the fallen warriors continued their march, attacking the participants. One by one, the participants died. Their numbers were dwindling, but that didn’t matter to the trail.
The storm grew stronger, lightning flashed more frequently, creating flashes in the dark clouds, reminding them that the four howls were what they should fear.
The only ones who remained safe were Ethan, Klaus, and Aime. They had defeated their enemy and possessed the grim seal and one grim shard. If they wanted to, they could save someone, but it was unlikely that it would be necessary.
Tap.
Ethan sat down on a rock, tossing the grim seal like a coin.
"Aime, now that we have some free time, there’s something I’d like to discuss."
"Hmm?"
He caught the grim seal in his strong grip.
"When you first appeared, you were covered in blood, and it’s still on your boots. What happened before that?"
Klaus was also curious. Due to their series of encounters, he considered Ethan a more loyal ally than Aime. Sure, they had all met on the same day, but their situations were different. He knew why Ethan came here, and Klaus was influenced by the fact that Ethan did not seek revenge for Klaus’s attack.
"This... I knew I couldn’t do it alone."
Aime lowered her gaze.
"I tried to find an ally and I succeeded, or so I thought. He wanted me to go ahead, but I tried to explain that if I were in the vanguard, I couldn’t perform at my best. He didn’t listen, we started arguing and didn’t notice the dark knight from the first stage approaching us."
Ethan’s gaze deepened.
"Who was closer to the knight, you or he?"
It was an important question. The answer would reveal whether Amelia’s story was true or not, since Ethan understood how the Grim Knights worked.
"He. The knight attacked him from behind. I jumped back in fear, but when I turned around to help, he was already dead..."
"Good." Ethan smiled sincerely. "I’m glad you’re safe."
There was another meaning behind his words, but Aime didn’t need to know that.
A flash lit up the field as a lightning orb soared across the sky.
The third strike would hit within a minute, and not everyone was ready for it.
