Chaos' Heir-Chapter 1165: Gift

Garret and Abraham were great scientists at the peak of their respective fields. The former was an acknowledged genius who stayed true to his title, while the latter had lived and breathed science for most of his long life.

Nevertheless, the Global Army had no shortage of other similarly prominent figures, especially among the noble echelon. Great scientists littered humankind, pushing innovation forward with each passing year.

So, Khan could believe someone might achieve better results than his scientists. He knew he kept them busy and overworked anyway, and science occasionally was a matter of luck and sudden enlightenment.

Besides, Baoway was no stranger to spies. Countless parties had joined its social, military, and political array, leaking classified information to secretive networks.

The issue was common and accepted at those levels, but no real fixes existed. Every major party knew spies would be among them and rode with it. The potential in the Scalqa's flesh was also quite a relevant subject, which inevitably attracted a lot of external attention.

Khan had even made it somewhat public to increase his planet's value. Humankind still relied on mana cores to wield that mystical energy, and their organic version was a superior but limited resource, especially at the high tiers. Every major party lusted after it to increase their descendants' potential, so the possibility of synthesizing it made their mouths drool.

All the above reasons and more muddied the waters, creating a long list of potential suspects. Anyone could fit that description, but Khan felt investigations were pointless. He instinctively knew who was to blame for that cryptic message, and his thoughts grew violent.

'Raymond fucking Cobsend,' Khan thought. 'How can you still annoy me to this day?'

Khan and Raymond Cobsend went way back. The man had created problems for him since Milia 222, and his existence had been nothing short of a thorn in his life. Khan had a few major curses, and Raymond was one of them.

The Nognes family had never stopped looking for Raymond after Prince Thomas decided to support Khan. However, the man had disappeared, occasionally attempting to contact Khan to establish new partnerships.

Khan had followed Monica's advice and had ignored the man, but the latter had still found ways of creating problems for him. Raymond had leaked the information about the Thilku military planet, unleashing Brigadier General Meadrey against Khan, ultimately forcing him to sever ties with humankind.

Things had been silent for a while, years even, after the battle against Brigadier General Meadrey, but Khan didn't believe for a second that Raymond had given up on him, and the cryptic message made him right. As secretive as Raymond was, Khan had to admit he was a driven man, and his value as a specimen had only increased throughout the years.

Of course, Khan had no definitive proof, but the matter was obvious in his mind. The other parties would have come forth to negotiate better deals with Baoway, probably aiming at establishing a joint monopoly over the synthetic organic mana cores.

Instead, Raymond wanted Khan, and that cryptic message was the perfect way of attracting his attention. Agreeing to deal with Raymond would be akin to welcoming an annoying and dangerous parasite into Khan's organization, and everything inside him screamed to refuse him. Except Khan hesitated.

Raymond wasn't trustworthy. He wasn't even close to that. Khan could ignore the dangers he had sent his way but couldn't accept how he had risked George and Monica's lives. Khan drew the line at his loved ones' well-being.

Yet, Khan couldn't help but consider the big picture.

The synthetic organic mana cores could be a revolutionary step in humankind's evolution, and Khan needed all the soldiers he could get. Even better, he needed powerful warriors, and that scientific discovery would greatly help with that.

Monopolizing that resource would also allow Khan to set the price and availability. Of course, he didn't plan to earn several fortunes out of it. Khan would gladly give it away almost for free to ensure that every soldier could get their hands on the mana, no matter how poor.

That project obviously wouldn't be so immediate. As powerful as Khan's organization was, he had allies to take care of and reward for their support. The first batches of synthetic organic mana cores would have to go to the nobles and the other wealthy families in Khan's social array to make them retain an advantage over the rest of the Global Army.

Moreover, the cryptic message said nothing about the Scalqa's well-being. Khan wouldn't sacrifice his soldiers to empower humankind. He wouldn't even turn them into guinea pigs. The project had to be harmless, or Khan would destroy the very idea of it.

Still, everything boiled down to how willing Khan was to work with Raymond. Simply listening to his offer could create countless problems, leaving no room for compromise. Khan had to decide whether to let Raymond in or refuse him altogether.

"How close are we to completing that project?" Khan eventually asked.

"Apologies, My Prince," Abraham's voice resounded from the control desk's speakers. "We are still stuck at some critical phases."

Abraham didn't say it, but Khan knew he was partially to blame for that delay. Garret was his best man on the subject, and he had locked him on Coravis, working on the Great Old One's body. As capable as Garret was, he couldn't handle many major projects simultaneously.

Khan opened his mouth but promptly closed it. He even sealed his eyes, hating the sole fact that he was considering that matter. He was an uncompromising being, but even his mana started to accept the issue, especially since he had long since decided to give up on everything.

Khan was willing to burn everything, especially himself, as long as he completed the Nak's mission. That was the core of his desperation, the source of his power, making him an uncompromising tool for destruction.

Feelings were still hard for Khan to give up on, so he refused Princess Rachel's marriage proposal. Yet, even they would eventually be at stake if Khan kept going down that road. As for his hatred for Raymond, he was probably willing to abandon it right now. It would simply be another price to pay for power.

"What does he want in exchange?" Khan questioned.

"He wants to negotiate directly with you, My Prince," Abraham revealed.

"Put him through," Khan ordered. He would soon become unreachable for an unknown amount of time, so giving up on his anger could be his last gift to the universe for a while.
