Chaos' Heir-Chapter 1227: Brave
Carlos inevitably panicked. Those tremors weren't a good sign, especially in space, and the various expanding cracks that had opened everywhere hinted at something even worse. The ship looked on the verge of imploding, but soon, Carlos felt unable to focus on that, either.
The air seemed to turn liquid, refusing to enter Carlos' nostrils, let alone his lungs. An instinctive, primordial fear also spread inside his brain, covering him in cold sweat. He was confused and unable to breathe, but his mind somehow knew who was to blame.
Someone moved among that raging earthquake. The other hooded figure, Blue, calmly crossed the crew, ignoring Mister Broze, to approach the special container. He didn't bother removing his cover, but something else did it for him.
Spiderwebs of cracks appeared on Blue's sleeves, mask, hood, shades, shoes, and gloves, expanding until they turned into a rain of torn rags that vanished before touching the floor.
The now-sleeveless and hoodless hoodie revealed a head full of long blue hair, occasionally combed into braids. Scarred, muscular arms also appeared in the open, as well as the many red symbols that covered them and that handsome face.
Moreover, a bright blue light started to shine in that slightly dim environment, coming directly from Blue's eyes. That glow was almost blinding, and no one could mistake the intense rage that permeated it.
To make things worse, Carlos actually recognized that man. Part of his job was to remain updated on things, and few people were as famous and eye-catching as Prince Khan.
Khan walked toward the container, ignoring the armed guard nearby, frozen in fear. The young Nele was awake and standing, and seeing that scary blue-haired man approaching her made her squeeze her body on the opposite side of the cage.
Khan stretched his scarred hand as he reached the cage, and touching its transparent glass made it vanish, turning it into a rain of shimmering dust that reflected his eyes' light.
The young alien girl released a terrified gasp, covering her head in fear of that shimmering rain, but nothing hurt her. Nothing ever landed on her, so she slowly lowered her arms, pointing her cute, scared purple eyes forward. The blue-haired man had stopped right outside the container, but other problems had arrived.
The armed guard was too close to the cage. Once the glass vanished, he was exposed to the Nele's pheromones, and his internal struggle was short-lived. A crazed smile broadened on his face while he focused on the young alien, and his body leaned toward her, ready to step into the container.
Nevertheless, cracks suddenly covered the armed guard before his whole figure crumbled into a gory puddle. Blood expanded on the metal floor, reaching Khan's feet, but he never diverted his attention from the young Nele.
"[I offer myself with nothing but respect]," Khan said in a perfect Nele accent, stretching his arm inside the broken container and pointing his palm upward.
The young Nele had gone through a rollercoaster of emotion. She was no stranger to violence, especially since she was in a place like that, but seeing a grown man crumbling into a pile of gore was still too much for such a little girl.
Then, Khan had spoken the Nele language, even abiding by that species' custom. The young alien didn't know what to think. She only realized that she wasn't as scared anymore, and that allowed her to stick to her strict education.
The Nele had it hard in the universe. Their customs were taught from a young age, so the girl mustered a stern expression, hiding her emotions, before slowly placing her palm on Khan's. freeweɓnøvel.com
"[Tamara]," The alien girl whispered, failing to add firmness to her cracking voice. "[You are]?"
"[I'm Khan]," Khan responded, smiling. "[The Nele are very dear to me. I'm a friend]."
"[The Nele have no friends]," Tamara claimed, still trying her best to look proud and emotionless. Yet, she couldn't help but notice how her pheromones had no effect on Khan.
"[I'm an unusual friend]," Khan said, still smiling. "[Don't worry. Are there more Nele on the ship]?"
Tamara shook her head, and her façade showed signs of falling apart. The story of how she had ended up there couldn't have been nice, and Khan wouldn't probe her now.
"[You were very brave]," Khan stated. "[You didn't let them see you cry, did you]?"
Tamara shook her head with more strength but pursed her lips, struggling to suppress her emotions. She was doing her best to hold back the tears, but some inevitably accumulated in her eyes.
"[You made the Nele proud]," Khan declared. "[Leave everything to me now. You are saved]."
"[Am I]?" Tamara sniffed. "[Will Khan take me back to the Nele]?"
"[Yes]," Khan reassured. "[I'll call my Nele friends as soon as I get you out of here]."
Tamara sniffed again, nodding. A tear fell down her face, but she ignored it, retracting her arm while joining her hands on her waist.
Khan took out his ruined hoodie, carefully entering the container before placing it on Tamara's head. She was wearing nothing but rags, so he helped her cover herself with that oversized clothing.
Tamara looked up at Khan once the hoodie was in place, only for a hand to land on her head. Khan knew how the Nele felt about physical contact, but he thought that reassuring a scared kid was a priority that ignored a species' customs.
"[Good girl]," Khan said, patting Tamara's head. "[I'll come back soon, okay]?"
Tamara kept looking up, but that reassurance prevented her from stopping her tears. She sniffed again, timidly stepping forward before her self-restraint gave up entirely and made her jump on Khan's chest.
"[Don't leave]," Tamara sobbed, attempting to cling to Khan's skin while hiding her face.
Khan couldn't possibly refuse that plea. He caressed Tamara's head, placing an arm under her knees to lift her. The kid remained on his chest, sobbing to no end, and he supported her as best he could before turning toward the rest of the hall. The tremors had stopped, but the rage in his glowing eyes had only intensified.
"[Liiza]," Khan called, switching to the Niqols' language while eyeing his wife. "[Can you make something to shield them from her pheromones]?"
Liiza inspected Khan and the little girl crying between his arms, and her already boundless love deepened even further. A sweet smile broke on her cold face while loving words escaped her mouth. "[Leave it to me]."
"[Thank you]," Khan said, tilting his head toward Mister Broze.
The fat man had become able to breathe again, but that was Khan's doing. He didn't want to terrify Tamara more than necessary, and his mana complied. Yet, Mister Broze experienced the full extent of that dread when the blue light enveloped him.
"Kneel," Khan ordered, his eyes slowly running over the other armed soldiers. "All of you."
