Chapter 219: An ugly, old friend - II

It was a soft cloud that she floated on, softer anything she had ever been on.

Slowly she became aware of her surroundings and she had a constant beeping sound. Evelyn quickly knew what it was and almost felt the relief wash over her before she opened her eyes.

The smell of disinfectant and medicines confirmed her initial thoughts and she could conclude that she was found and in a hospital.

Carefully and slowly, she opened her eyes and her conclusion was confirmed. She was in a hospital and dozing off Dante was sitting by her side. His head was lowered and his arms were folded in front of him. He kept on moving and it felt like at any moment, he would fall off.

Evelyn narrowed her eyes at him, having the thought of waking him up but deciding against it. If it was here that Salvatore must have been busy because his cousin was the only one Salvatore would trust this task with.

The door opened and her husband walked in while cleaning his hands with a tissue. Even from a far and with the blurry sight, she recognised the dark crimson colour that was on his hands and now on the tisse.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow or at least tried to you but she did not feel completely in control of her body.

Salvatore must have realised the questioning look she was sending his way because he shrugged. "Landed a punch or two on someone."

Oh, what an innocent shrug it was.

"You found me." Her voice was croaky but she didn’t let it stop her. "How could it take you so long to do that?"

"I took as long as it needed."

Her eyes watered slightly but she looked away and blinked. His reply was in itself an answer that she did not want to hear but had to accept.

Asking for clarification would only hurt her if it turned out in a bitter way. So, she would let it be and hope that it’s not just say that.

"You said you were dying," he stopped at the foot of her bed. "You’re not dead yet."

Evelyn scoffed in her mind. "Thank you."

He smiled, a quick one, that went away in a second and his expressions sobered up. "The pain you are feeling was from appendicitis that has been operated on and severe dehydration."

Severe dehydration was a given but appendicitis was new and the pain now had an explanation.

"You are going to be on bed rest for quite a time." His hands rested on the button and she felt her upper half of the body being raised along the bed. "And I would prefer if you do it here in the clinic."

Evelyn frowned, "but you have a completely cable home where all of this could be set up?"

He nodded, agreeing with her but didn’t relent. "Hospital is more functional for this recovery."

When he did not say anything further and stared at her, Evelyn understood that he was finished with the conversation.

For once, she wanted to be on that pedestal where she could finish the conversation no matter how much the other person wanted to talk.

"Arabella?"

Salvatore smirked, as if expecting it. "Fine," he answered, "option papers are complete but you will meet her when you are discharged."

"Why not now?" Evelyn did not see the sense in keeping the child away when she could see Arabella in the hospital. "You could let her come here for ten minutes only. I swear to you, I will not ask for more."

He tsked and with a shake of his head, he conveyed his disapproval. "You can see her whenever you want when you just get touched. It would hardly take you two days before they give their yes."

Two days too long. But at least she had come this far and that was something she had to be thankful for.

The opening of the door made her look towards it and break the stair with her husband. It was a man in a white coat that entered and was obviously the doctor who surprisingly had a smile on his face despite knowing who stood in the room.

Dante woke up with a startle and stared at all three of them before turning back to Salvatore. "You came and could not wake me up?"

"No,"

Dante scoffed, "excuse me," he stood up and walked to the other door in the room, "I got to take a shit."

Her nose scrunched up and she looked away. Why did he have to say it out loud?

"I hope you are not feeling any pain, Mrs Alessandro." The doctor took her attention. "You have the appropriate amount of medicines but if you feel any pain we can increase it."

"I’m fine." If she got any more medicines injected into her, she would start to feel High. "Thank you."

He went on to tell her about how smoothly her appendicitis operation went and that he would provide her with a diet chart and currently she was on glucose as well given that she was severely dehydrated.

All in all he needs a good effort to keep her updated on how she was and when he was done, he took his leave immediately.

All of that took 10 minutes and Dante did not come out yet.

"He is taking it." Salvatore smirked, "he takes his time in it."

"Ew, Salvatore. Stop!"

He chuckled and was about to say something when the door opened, cutting him off.

The first thing she saw was a huge bouquet of flowers and that was held by a man dressed in a suit.

Evelyn’s eyes flickered over to Salvatore, waiting for him to call the Guards and throw the man out but he did not say anything which watched the man like she did.

The bouquet lowered and her eyes narrowed trying to remember who the man were or if he had even met him in the first place.

He grinned, "Remember me?"
