Chaos In The Darkness; Salvatores's Salvation-Chapter 89: The threats - II
Evelyn found herself to be comfortable where she was. She remained sitting on the floor with her back against the door. The spot was rather cosy.
Something in her life that she had never imagined had happened and this might be one of those times when Evelyn would have really appreciated having her father with her.
"I really wish you were here, Papa." She whispered to no one in particular. "I need you."
She really did.
As father and daughter they had never been able to bond much especially with the absence of her mother. Her father had drowned himself in his work and Evelyn it was just someone who left inside his house that he paid attention to once or twice a day.
Even if he did not see Evelyn for weeks at times Carlo still knew what was happening with his daughter.
She chuckled. She remembered how much she hated that happening but now it seemed like the safest bet.
Vibration echoed inside the room and Evelyn knew that it was her phone. She stared at it from her position having half a mind to leave it ringing and then call back the person.
Perhaps not calling them back at all was also an option which seems to be rather favourable.
She stood up in an unladylike way and walked to where her cellphone was. Maybe she could have crawled here.
She frowned at the number but picked it up hurriedly. "Hello?"
"You have some guts," the voice made her still. "Which is surprising for me because I did not imagine you to have any. However I would be keeping that in mind that you do."
"S-sir?" Evelyn stuttered. She could feel her bones freezing and the voice of the man especially with the Ominous it sounded. Had he heard already? If he had that, Evelyn was definitely going to get killed by him.
"Are we going to pretend like it never happened?" The taunt was clear. "Because that is certainly something I am incapable of. Does it look right for me to be incapable, Evelyn?"
"No," she shook her head, "Not at all." She whispered hurriedly.
If the man had to call her, Evelyn was not going to take any chance for him to be offended by her on a phone call. It was already for the worst that they could not see each other much less just hear their voices. She made it her best that he did not hear any kind of taunt or tone in her voice.
"Good for you to realise that." Evelyn closed her eyes. "Now can you tell me what you have done wrong?"
Shit. "I. . .uh?"
This was frustrating if not confusing. What Evelyn had done was her basic right but this was also frustrating because rights did not matter in this life what did was power.
Even if Evelyn had the power to refuse over whom she wanted to marry with someone who was keeping her in the protection, Evelyn knew it would not be good because rights and morals along with ethics in this life do not work well.
"I am sorry. It won’t happen again." She said instead, hoping that it would please the person on the other side of the phone. It was going to be hard pleasing him but evelyne hoped an apology was enough along with some action because punishment was necessary otherwise this person would not stop.
A chuckle came instead. "What makes you think that there is going to be another chance for you to disappoint me?"
"Why don’t you go and stand where your mirror is?"
Evelyn licked her lips but did as told. "Um, I am here." She said once she stood in front of the mirror. There was nothing out of the ordinary about her or the mirror but that was until she saw the Red Dot.
The Red Dot that was on the reflection of her in the mirror was on her forehead. Right in between the eyebrows.
Evelyn was not this naive to not know what it meant. It was a clear straight on her life that the man on the other side was making and he had even made it happen inside the house of the current Don. The Red Dot indicated that Sniper was ready to snipe her at the back of her head.
The Red Dot told her that it was ready. Her life could end within a matter of seconds or just the next blink.
"Do-Don?" She whispered not even knowing which don she was referring to. "But. . .I. ."
"You are a wonderful and young girl who would love to use your brain. So it would be a waste for it to be spilled on the ground." The words made her cry silently.
As if the realisation of having that right behind her was not enough the words added more to her fear.
Why was this happening to her? Het bad luck had started after her father passed.
Evelyn still could not look away from the Red Dot appearing in the middle of her eyebrows. She did not even dare to turn around and see where it was coming from. That might be the worst nightmare.
Just a movement from her side and The Sniper might shoot her.
"That brain is meant for using and not procrastinating things. So how about the time that you’ve taken is put to good use and you give him an answer at the earliest?"
"Soonest?" She whispered to herself still in a trance as she stared at the Red Dot. Her entire body was paralyzed in fear. She was so far away from death.
"Yes Evelyn. Do not forget the family you come from and do not forget the family you are in." Was this a warning or a reminder?
"I would hate for a pretty face to get wasted especially when you could come of use to me."
Another scoff came, "I don’t think you would require much time after hearing this, now would you Evelyn?"
Would she? "No," she whispered automatically, "I won’t."
