Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 132: No, I’m the one that called you
In the end, Max didn’t chase anyone out of the villa. He just did his things discreetly with Valerie in their rooms.
Two days after Mariam’s prom night, Max decided to take Valerie out.
"Wow, wife, you look gorgeous." Max complimented after Valerie came down in her elegant dress but she couldn’t say the same for him.
With furrowed eyebrows, she folded her arms and said,
"And you look like someone who’s going to the movies. Great. I dressed wrongly." She looked a bit angry.
"Well, it looks great on you." Max said to her but she pursed her lips, let out the air in her lungs, and said,
"When you said you were taking me out, you could’ve been a little more specific so that I would’ve had a little idea on how to dress up for it. Now, look."
"I didn’t think that through because I thought you looked good in everything. For example, this." Max said, pointing at what she was currently wearing.
"Yeah, but that doesn’t solve anything. I can’t wear just anything to a place I have no clue about." She said. "What did I expect from you? I should’ve asked for more details. I’m going to change."
Max rubbed the back of his neck as he watched her ascend the stairs. Yeah, maybe he should’ve been a little more specific. But he felt if he did, he would give away the surprise.
"Someone really messed up this time." Mariam commented as she walked past while sipping from the mug in her hand. She swallowed, smacked her lips, and said, "Let’s hope that someone gets to make up for his mistake, if not his wife will be sour throughout their little ’date’." She acted like she was talking to herself but Max knew she was directing it at him.
Well, he would indeed make it up to her. In his own way that he knew she would love.
He had the whole day planned out.
Valerie undid her zip, took off her dress, and started searching through her wardrobe for something casual.
"Gosh, the least he could’ve done was tell me to wear something simple. Was that too hard to do?" She grumbled.
She spent all night picking out that dress. It wasn’t too sophisticated for a dress and wasn’t too simple either. It was just enough so she wouldn’t stand out too much.
"He’s going to have to wait for an hour till I find what I feel satisfied with." She kept grumbling.
Thinking of what he wore, she decided to match it, but she didn’t have any combo to go with it.
She didn’t pack much in the first place.
’Should I just tell him I didn’t bring any casual clothes so we can stop by the boutique?’ Valerie wondered but shook it off right away. ’I’ll just wear anything.’
Max checked his watch. Valerie was taking time to come down. It has already been an hour since she went back to change.
"You shouldn’t rush a lady, son." Tiana said, just before he made a move. "Especially one who had to change thanks to your misinformation. Hoho." She laughed.
"Ugh." Max knew he was guilty. "I’ll just wait it out."
But luckily, he didn’t have to wait too long since Valerie came down shortly after Tiana spoke.
She was dressed in jean pants and wore a hood, looking like an average person.
"I hope this fits the bill, Mr. Knight in shining armour." She said as she made her way down the stairs.
He excitedly got up and rushed to aid her down. He offered her hand and she rolled her eyes before taking it.
"I’ll forgive you this time."
She swiped her hair behind her back and smiled.
"Wow, you look like you were dying to forgive him." Tiana tittered. "Well, you two be off now. Hurry and get on with your date."
"Alright then." Max picked up his car key and led Valerie to the door. At the same time, Jeremy was walking in.
"Boss, you called?" He said but Max looked at him like he didn’t know what he was talking about.
Mariam quickly stepped up and said,
"No, I’m the one that called you." She smiled awkwardly. "Mister, I need to look into something and I need your help. Can you..." She stole a glance at her brother and then back at him. "Spare me some of your time?"
"Uh..." Jeremy was unsure if his boss would need him for anything so he didn’t know if to take the request or not.
He looked over at Max, waiting for orders when Max said,
"I’m going out with Valerie so you can do whatever you like. Besides, I was originally going to give you a day off so it works well." He said.
"Alright." He bowed his head. "Have fun, sir."
Max and Valerie vacated the premises, Tiana went up to the balcony to watch the view, while Jeremy went with Mariam to see what she needed from him.
It was work-related.
"I’m sorry we have to talk about work on your day off." Mariam said. "But there are a few things I’d like to decide on, concerning Ross and since you’ve been with my brother the longest, I was thinking you could help me."
"Uh," Henry, who was mostly behind the scenes, watching and helping out when needed, saw this task as something Tom would’ve been a better help for.
He was simply a character who walked around behind his boss, carrying out menial tasks, even though he indeed had the qualifications to be a secretary. He just didn’t have the confidence to leap that far.
"Uh, I believe someone other than me would be a better much help." He said and Mariam tilted her head.
"What do you mean?"
"I may have been with the boss the longest but I don’t deal with tasks like this."
"But you understand the concepts, don’t you?" She asked and he nodded.
"Yes, but..."
"Do you just doubt yourself when faced with things like this?" Mariam suddenly asked, hitting the nail on the head. "You’re not confident about your opinions, huh?"
Jeremy was silent. That was precisely it.
If it was to run errands, spy on the enemy, get the car ready, or get clothes ready for an occasion, he was good at it. He knew he could carry it out effortlessly but business ideas... He knew he would screw up no matter what.
"It’s not that I doubt myself." He said. "I just know it."
"Huh. Then, have you ever tried and failed?"
"I don’t need to try to know I’ll fail, Miss." Jeremy said, almost too certain.
Mariam rested her back on the chair, rubbed the back of her neck, and sighed.
Here was another person who had little to no confidence in their abilities. What to do?
If he was indeed a screw up as he said then he couldn’t be of much help. But what if he was just downing himself for no reason?
"Ugh, I need to get this done by today." She exclaimed and opened her eyes. "Look, I don’t know how you’ve been doing it and maybe you indeed aren’t good at it but if it’s just some shit you’ve been telling yourself because of what someone else said then get over it. You’re not a kid."
Her words were harsh and it made Jeremy feel awkward. It was embarrassing, truly.
Here was a kid whom he was older than by five years and she was scolding him. Ugh, could his life get any less embarrassing?
"Sort yourself out, Mister. You’re battling with a serious issue of self-doubt. If you don’t tackle it, you’ll never get married. Trust me." She ended her words there and turned her attention to the files in front of her. "I’ll just mingle through anyhow. I hope I make the right mistake. That’s all I hope for."
Jeremy was silent. He watched Mariam crack her head at what was in front of her. He didn’t need to take a closer look to know she was battling with the stock pricing.
Even a kid like her had such heavy responsibility.
Yeah, stocks were extremely difficult to handle and with one wrong move, she could end up flattening the company’s stock. That was why she needed expert advice and she could not go to her brother for very obvious reasons.
She couldn’t ruin his honeymoon with work.
Jeremy felt he was not one of the main characters so he was prone to making big mistakes. And besides, because he wasn’t the main character of any story, he didn’t need to try so hard to stand out.
’I... I don’t need to stand out. I don’t need to be outstanding. Running menial errands is enough for me.’ he told himself but something about what Mariam said caught him off his boots.
’You’re battling with a serious issue of self-doubt. If you don’t tackle it, you’ll never get married.’ the words replayed in his head.
Yes, he was a 25-year-old bachelor who had never once dated. He was a virgin, just like his boss a few months ago but now he was the only one.
And unlike his boss who was waiting for his destined one, he was simply unable to get a girlfriend and he so desired to fall in love.
’Ugh, what do I do?’ he thought. ’I want to get married in bliss and have wonderful kids.’
He always imagined approaching a lady but it never played out the way it did in his head and so, he never approached one.
His self-doubt was the cause.
"Please," he suddenly said in a loud tone, bowing his head at a girl who was younger than him, startling her in the process. "I don’t want to doubt myself any longer. Teach me how to be confident in myself." The eagerness in his face was so evident but Mariam was confused as to what changed his mind all of a sudden.
Then, his next statement answered her thoughts,
"I want to be confident in myself so I can get married."
A sweat drop rolled down the corner of her face as she felt she had created a new problem for herself.
"Ah, well... Where do I start?" She eyed the stock list in front of her and an idea played in her mind. She grinned. "Alright, Mister. I’ll help you."
