Chasing The Vengeful Villainous Heiress-Chapter 147: It’s not even begun yet, but I already feel tired
The next day, Valerie got ready to head to the company. Max had to leave earlier than her, while she was still sleeping, so she would take one of Grampa Leo’s cars after making sure nothing had been done to it.
"Take care, dear." Grampa Leo said to Valerie as she entered the car. She smiled at him through the window and said,
"I’m just going to attend a meeting. Don’t make it look like I’m going to travel around the world."
"Yes, I know. But I can’t help but worry. There are wolves in board meetings and more so snakes." He said and she nodded.
"I understand. I’ll take extra precautions and not fall into any trap." She assured. "So, do me a favor and ease your worries a bit."
Grampa Leo sighed and nodded.
"Alright then. Safe journey."
"Bye, grampa."
The car started heading out. She relaxed on the chair and sighed. Of course, she knew there were wolves and snakes for humans in a board meeting. They probably wanted to eat at her, the little life she has left, and suck out her life force before it was too late.
But she wouldn’t let them be if they tried anything.
"My main goal for attending is to check out the owners of the distributed shares. I still wonder who that anonymous buyer is. Are they friends or foes? I’ll find out today."
All shareholders would be present, and unless they used an alias, which would still be traced back to them, the anonymous buyer of those shares would have to show himself.
"Miss, we’ve arrived." The driver announced and Valerie looked out the window. They were driving into the underground garage and so she took out her phone to call Mariam.
"Sister, are you here already?" Mariam asked, getting up from her seat, and Valerie nodded.
"Yes. I’m at the garage."
"Alright. Wait for me there, I’ll be down in a few minutes."
Valerie cut the call and rested her back, shutting her eyes for a few minutes.
’It’s not even begun yet, but I already feel tired.’
Mariam got down and knocked on the window frame.
Valerie opened her eyes and saw Mariam smiling at her.
She opened the door and got down.
"You know, I could’ve come up on my own." Valerie said as she got out of the car.
"I know but no one knows what might happen, so I have to be extra careful." Mariam said but Valerie scoffed and pointed at the guards behind her. "Do you think you’d be able to do anything that those guards wouldn’t?"
"Well, maybe I can’t but..." She drew closer to whisper. "I get it’s for safety reasons, and everyone is worried and all, but don’t you think this many guards can pose a problem?"
Valerie looked over her shoulder.
Grampa Leo, as well as Max, made sure to arrange a ’sufficient’ number of guards to go with her and protect her at all times. But this much, more than a dozen, seemed a bit too extreme.
"But hey, who can stop my family when they turn on overprotective mode?" Mariam shrugged and laughed. "At least with this, no one will worry, right?"
But Valerie shook her head and said,
"They’ll still worry," Valerie said. "Your brother, in particular, will only rest if I am in his line of sight."
"Kya! That’s a given." She exclaimed.
They walked towards the elevator and entered with about three guards while the rest retreated to run up the stairs.
"Is this really okay?" Valerie asked. "That’s a lot of stairs."
Mariam shrugged.
"They can’t all fit in the elevator, and they can’t wait for turns either, so they have to use the stairs if they want to do their job perfectly and catch up with us."
Valerie looked aside. A little too extreme, but okay.
The elevator stopped a few times, with employees planning to get in with them but the guards blocked them. Honestly, only the sight of three guards and two ladies going toward the top floor already gave them the signal not to interfere or try to enter.
But to make sure they got the ’memo’ the guards raised their hand as a stop sign on each stop.
They finally got to Valerie’s office and Stacy, Valerie’s former assistant and currently Mariam’s assistant, stood at attention to greet the owner.
"Good morning, Boss." She said, trying to hide the awkwardness she felt.
She had previously said so many bad things about her that it was coming back to bite her.
"Good morning." Valerie and Mariam answered simultaneously. They glanced at each other and then laughed.
Who was the boss here?
"Miss Stacy, bring the files for today’s board meeting. Sister Valerie needs to look through before we start."
"Ah, yes, of course." She hurried to get the files ready. "I’ll be back with the files right away." She said and left the office.
Valerie turned to Mariam and said,
"It seems you put her to good use." She said. "She didn’t give me good vibes and appeared non-thrustworthy, but she’s changed since the last time I saw her."
"She’s smart. She was always smart." Mariam said, taking a seat on the couch opposite Valerie. "She just let her jealousy and envy get the better of her."
"Hm, I hope she stays that way."
Stacy returned shortly with the files and handed them to Valerie, still acting a little awkward.
Valerie and Mariam looked through them, discussing the important factors she needed to take note of before her meeting started, and before long, it was time for the meeting.
"Don’t worry, Sister Valerie. I’ll be next to you at all times. I won’t let those bloodsuckers try anything." Mariam said with her fist in the air and her eyes blazing with a desire to win.
Valerie looked at her enthusiasm and smiled softly.
"I understand." She got up and said, "So, let’s go now."
They both headed to the meeting room.
As soon as they entered, they were greeted with the stares of the old, the prideful, and the greedy.
Their eyes were all fixed on Valerie as she walked towards the seat in front of them all. She took her seat, crossed her legs folded her arms, immediately exacting her dominance and giving them no room to look down on her.
"If there are no objections, let us begin."
