Chosen By The Lover's Constellation-Chapter 193: Star Players, Part Twenty-Two
As the girls walked away from the building, Lianna turned and looked back for a moment.
Being that close, yet still so far from the enemy was a strange feeling.
"Fighting them all here would be an awful idea, even as strong as we are," Caroline told her. "Not only would we be outnumbered, but some of these people are probably innocent, curious civilians. Civilians who’d surely get caught in the crossfire."
"I know," Lianna responded. "It’s just... Nothing."
Ultimately, they hadn’t found out too much.
What they had found out served to give the enemy more of a defined "image" but not much in the form of weaknesses to exploit or strengths to be aware of.
Their official name was the Seeds of Eternity.
They were founded by a group of children of mana, which Lianna guessed that one girl was at the center of. As the girls found out back in Garriden, they were a religious group built around the return of Saren.
That was it. The people who Lianna found were willing to speak with her and the others didn’t seem to know much more than that.
[And, somehow,] Lianna thought, as Miss Taylor’s hired driver arrived and picked them up, [killing innocent people is going to make Saren come back? How!?]
As they got in, Lianna could feel her frustration mounting just thinking about it.
No matter what their reasoning was, they needed to be stopped. That wasn’t in question. But, Lianna did wonder what drove these people to do these sorts of things.
She couldn’t even begin to put herself in their shoes. Their actions were simply alien to her.
"This was productive, I suppose," Enverna said, sitting down next to Lianna. "Won’t help us tomorrow, but I guess it’s nice to know who we’re fighting."
Lianna remained silent.
As Mel and Caroline got in the car, Enverna leaned in a little.
"Lianna? Are you alright?"
"Yeah," Lianna replied with a deep exhale. "I just... I hope we can be done with this tomorrow."
Enverna reached over and squeezed her hand.
"I do as well."
[... But,] Lianna replied in her mind, [it’s not very likely, is it?]
---
The following day, Lianna and Enverna got ready for the exhibition.
Lianna and Enverna stood before their wardrobe, selecting their attire for the exhibition match. The anticipation buzzed around them as they prepared for the event that would showcase their skills to the world.
Lianna slipped into a sleek, form-fitting outfit, her expression focused yet determined as she threw her bow over her back.
Enverna, by her side, exuded confidence as she adjusted her attire, her gaze reflecting the intensity of their upcoming challenge.
As they finished getting ready, Lianna’s phone buzzed with an incoming call. She glanced at the screen and saw Miss Taylor’s name flashing.
"Hey, Miss Taylor," Lianna answered, a hint of excitement in her voice.
"Good morning, Lianna. Just wanted to wish you and Enverna good luck for today’s exhibition. And, please, be careful out there. If our plan works, you can likely expect a far more difficult fight than anything you’ll get during the event," Miss Taylor said, her concern evident in her tone.
Lianna nodded, a sense of determination settling over her.
"Thanks, Miss Taylor. Don’t worry, we’ll be on our guard."
"Good. Take care, Lianna," Miss Taylor said before ending the call.
Enverna, who had been listening in, turned to Lianna with a grin.
"Ready to go?"
Lianna returned the smile.
"Absolutely."
With one last glance at themselves in the mirror, the duo made their way to the exhibition venue, the excitement building with each step they took.
As they arrived at the stadium, the grandeur of the event hit them full force. The vibrant atmosphere pulsated with energy as spectators filled the stands, eagerly anticipating the matches to come.
Lianna scanned the crowd, her eyes darting around in search of any familiar faces, particularly that of the Child of Mana they had been tracking. However, amidst the sea of people, she couldn’t spot her target.
Before they could delve deeper into their search, a man approached them, introducing himself and guiding them toward the designated area for the participants.
"Hello, I’m Marcus. Welcome to the exhibition. Follow me, please," the man said with a friendly smile, gesturing for them to follow.
Lianna exchanged a glance with Enverna.
With a nod, they followed after the man.
As Marcus led them through the crowded stadium, Lianna and Enverna listened intently as he explained the logistics of the showcase.
"The exhibition will be conducted as a bracket-style tournament," Marcus began, his voice echoing in the vast space. "Each match will be a two-on-two duel, with the winners advancing to the next round."
Lianna nodded, absorbing the information as they walked. Enverna, her focus unwavering, glanced around the stadium, taking in the sights and sounds of the event.
"We’ve arranged for you both to fight at the end of the first round," Marcus continued, checking a tablet in his hand. "It should be quite the spectacle."
A surge of excitement coursed through Lianna as she imagined the upcoming match. This was their chance to showcase their skills and prove themselves in front of a live audience.
Finally, they reached their seats, situated high up in the stadium. Lianna glanced around, taking in the panoramic view of the arena below.
The stadium buzzed with anticipation, the air charged with energy as spectators filled the stands, eagerly awaiting the start of the matches.
Lianna settled into her seat, feeling a mixture of nerves and excitement building within her.
Beside her, Enverna leaned forward, her gaze fixed on the arena below. Lianna could sense her anticipation, her determination palpable in the air.
As they waited for the exhibition to begin, Lianna couldn’t help but feel a surge of adrenaline coursing through her veins.
One one hand, this was their moment to shine.
On the other, the world’s doom could be cemented today.
If the girl even took the bait.
[Let’s hope she does.]
