Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!-Chapter 429: Wait and See
Mama Bennett finished cooking the hangover soup, worried that they might start arguing again. She wanted to call them out to drink it and then go straight to sleep. She stood at the door and listened but didn’t hear any commotion, so she went to sleep assured. As long as these two aren’t arguing, they are fine.
The next morning, Honey opened her eyes and rushed out of the room to find her mom. She had a dream last night that her dad and mom were fighting, which scared her. She needed to ask her mom about it immediately. But when she pushed the door open, she was surprised to see her dad there too.
She didn’t dare make a sound, quietly closed the door again, and rushed to her brother’s room.
Seth Sterling shook his head and sighed after listening, "The world of adults is really complicated. Let’s just watch and wait."
Honey loved hearing her brother use these four-character phrases she couldn’t understand at all. Her bright, sparkling eyes blinked as she asked, "Brother, what does ’watch and wait’ mean?"
"It means quietly observing without offering any opinions."
"Oh..." Honey suddenly understood after hearing it, then saluted Seth Sterling, "Reporting to Captain, I’ll go watch and wait!" With that, she turned and rushed out of her brother’s room, her little chubby hands hanging by her sides, pretending she was a flying little heroine with wings.
Seth was just waking up, his brain not operating fully yet. After a moment of realization, he understood why his sister had that reaction. He quickly got out of bed to chase after her, barely catching her before she entered the room.
Seth covered his sister’s mouth, dragged her to the living room, and educated her quietly, "Watching and waiting doesn’t mean staring. It’s just a metaphor!"
Honey was a bit confused, "What do you mean?"
"It means pretending like you don’t know anything and keep living as usual. Do you go to bother mom when she hasn’t woken up?"
Honey nodded, "Yes, I do."
Seth felt exasperated early in the morning, took a deep breath, and continued educating his sister, "A good child won’t disturb their parents’ sleep because they work hard during the day, so they sleep longer on weekends to recharge. If we disturb them, they’ll be more exhausted at work. Do you want mom to be more tired?"
Honey shook her head, "But I dreamed last night that mom and dad were fighting again, and it scared me. Recently, when video chatting with dad, he seemed a bit unhappy."
"Don’t worry, dreams are always the opposite." Seth had also heard some snippets of arguing last night, but since dad was sleeping in mom’s room, it proved it wasn’t a big deal.
Feeling reassured by her brother’s words, Honey still wanted to talk to her mom about it. But not wanting to disturb their sleep, she went back to her room to chat with her dolls, easing her worries.
Seth felt that his sister learned to chat with her dolls instead of always pestering him, which was a sign of growth. He decided to get up and start tackling the program bugs from yesterday. He recently got into programming and joined a global open-source code-sharing organization where people could freely use each other’s work posted online.
He also tried making a small game using what he learned from the site. Without any graphic polishing, his game looked particularly rough, but he wasn’t worried. He wanted to focus on the gameplay first before considering the aesthetics.
He planned to put it on his website and earn money through advertising fees.
He pondered that instead of hoping for his dad to become reliable, it would be better to make himself reliable.

Ruby Sullivan opened her eyes and was startled by the man beside her on the pillow.
The events of last night felt bizarre; she thought she might have dreamt it, but suddenly seeing a real-life Ethan Sterling lying there gave her a shock. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
When Honey came in, Ethan Sterling was already awake, but since the daughter knew to avoid suspicion now that she had grown, he went back to sleep again. Ruby Sullivan sat up to drink water, so he opened his eyes.
Ruby glanced at him, awkwardly pulling up the blanket to cover herself.
She felt there were too many unresolved issues, like him sabotaging Nirvana, his sudden relationship, and the negative impact her bad reputation might have on him.
Ethan Sterling was amused by her shy yet feigned-nonchalance demeanor. He got up, kissed her moist lips, and lay back down, tilting his head to look at her, "Honey came in once this morning. How are you planning to explain to the kids?"
Ruby Sullivan frowned, "Explain what?"
"Hey!" Ethan Sterling frowned, "You haven’t even put your pants on and you want to renege?"
"What am I reneging on?" Ruby Sullivan drank her water, her big eyes blinking innocently as she continued to feign ignorance.
Ethan Sterling sighed, "I knew it."
"What do you know again?" Ruby Sullivan couldn’t help feeling nervous.
With their personalities, misunderstandings easily arose. One was too insecure, afraid of dragging the other down, unwilling to say anything. The other was too proud, unable to wholeheartedly treat the other well, thus also unspeaking.
In the end, they only reaped two secretly sorrowing drama queens.
Ethan Sterling leaned over and pillowed his head on her stomach, "I know I became a tool again last night."
Ruby Sullivan unceremoniously pinched his cheek, "Discard if not needed."
"Ouch ouch ouch!" Ethan Sterling cried out pitifully, his face full of a satisfied smile.
He hadn’t slept so soundly in a long time; truly, only she was his remedy. Feeling a bit sleepy again, he closed his eyes, "In the future, no matter what happens, always speak your true thoughts. If you want to leave me, there can only be one reason: you don’t love me anymore. You can say it directly, but you can’t lie to me again."
Ruby Sullivan gently stroked his hair, unable to suppress her smile, "I should be the one saying that."
They lingered in bed until noon, without discussing depressing topics further. The kids didn’t question why dad was here, which gave them relief.
This time getting back together, they no longer planned for eternity. Before stabilizing the relationship, it was better not to involve the kids.
Afterward, Ethan Sterling didn’t move in. This year, The Sterling Group’s biggest project was in Nihona, requiring frequent business trips there.
Alex had also prepared for Nirvana’s launch in Bellaza. All sorts of pre-launch promotional work needed Ruby Sullivan’s guidance, so after a few days in the country, she flew to Bellaza.
During this period, due to the time difference, they seldom had video calls, leaving mundane messages instead, to respond to when not busy.
It wasn’t until March that they could temporarily break away from work to return home for Vivian and Uncle’s wedding.
Uncle’s many friends were veteran business elites, mostly retired, bringing along their families to give juniors an opportunity to network. A wedding attended by hundreds of people was truly grand.
Honey was initially excited to be a flower girl. Seeing so many other children outside of kindergarten for the first time made her even more delighted.
