Chapter 42: Too Close for Comfort
Dimitri would not let Lily out of his sight after her kidnapping preferring to do his work in her lab as she worked. Lily was only packing up for her expedition and even Nina and Trinee seemed to be keeping watch over her too. Always handing her things and making sure she didn’t leave the room.
When one of them followed her to the bathroom when she came back Lily looked them all in the eye irritated. "I know I was kidnapped. I know someone wants me dead because of him, but you all seem to forget one thing." Dimitri walked over to them curious about where she was going with this comment. "And what might that be?"
"I can defend myself and now know to cook my own food and drink, no offense Nina." Nina nodded knowing what happened for her to say this. "Yeah, but you fell for one of the queen’s tricks and she may try more." Dimitri told her concerned she didn’t know the danger she was in. "The only reason that sedative she used worked is because someone told her about me. Someone from the academy, that’s the only way she could have found out what to give me." ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
They all looked at her surprised that figured out how she was drugged. "What do you mean?" Trinee had a suspicion of what Lily might have been doing, but had yet to ask her. "Thre whole time I was at the Academy I was dousing myself with various poisons. The Wolf Clan had more then enough reason to drag me back and would use any way possible. So i made sure they couldn’t use a chemical or biological componant to drug me. There are only a handful of toxins and poisons that could work on me."
It shouldn’t surprise Dimitri that his mate wuld go to such lengths, but it did giving him more understanding to his mates defences. "Why do they want you back so badly?" Trinee asked curious about why the Wolf Clan wants Lily so bad. "Other then running things in the back ground, I’m not sure. I’d like to know myself."
"Wait back up. Who would possibly know what could kill you or what you ingested in the first place?" Lily knew this answer and he wasn’t going to like it. "I told you I dated back at the academy. I just didn’t tell you who. No one important, but I was terrribly anti social, like now, and the only guys I was around were my lab partners."
Trinee knew how this worked as she had done similar when she went to the Academy. "After they got what they wanted out of me, the professor would make up some excuse and trade me off to someone else. After the third time, though I went into independent study with Professor Magnus when I told him what happened."
Dimitri knew she endured hardship growing up, but he thought it might have gotten better when she was in school. He walked over putting his arms around his mate who was alredy holding herself speaking about the subject. "You don’t have to worry about that anymore because I don’t share." Lily smiled hearing this glad she was someone to be discarded by her mate.
"Thank you. But my lab partners would be the first place to look. One is here in the castle working for your brother, I think. The others could be anywhere." "Write there names and graduate degrees down so we know where and how to look for them." Dimitri instructed, Lily nodded pulling a note pad from her desk writing them down.
Trinee walked around Lily seeing the names written on the page one she knew all to well. "Prince Dimitri, I know this one. The one that works for your brother was also my last lab assistant and lover, of sorts." Dimitri walked over seeing them name knew the family this dragon came from. Tylan De Pyro was from one of the most prestigious dragon family and was his cousin though his stepmother.
"Why him? You two are terrible." Lily and Trinee looked between the two of them then back at him. "The man was sexy and ready for fun, but had a bad temper. Did he ever....?" Trinee asked Lily wandering if he ever tried to hurt her. "No, he seduced me once then left the next day. I never found out why. He was my first lab partner too." Lily explained still wondering why he just ran like he did.
"I will have Erik look into these three and find out what they have been up to recently. Tylan won’t be hard to find since he’s my older brother’s best friend too. It seems likely that he could be the link. We still have a ball to prepare for tonight and your all packed to leave in three days." Lily nodded knowing he wasn’t coming with her and it would be a long trip.
She wanted to spend as much time with him too, but he didn’t need to be glued to her ass. "Let’s go get me dressed than. See you later, Trinee." Lily waved to her as Trinee entered hr lab and Lily locked up hers. Taking Dimitri’s arm they walk up the stairs to their rooms where an army of servants were ready to get her dressed.
The queen hadn’t tried to make another appearance again after the day before’s fiasco. "Which one will you choose?" Dimitri asked as the male servants helped him into more formal attire. Lily knew which one she wanted to choose, but also knew she had to impress the noble family for her mate.
"I think I will go with the one you purchased for me the last time we went shopping. I liked the feeling of the silk on my skin." Lily told him remembering the gown he carefully took off her and made love to her under the stars on. He smiled at her as she changed the dress having been fitted properly this time molding to her figure beautifully. Leaving her hair down, but curled and the transparent, shimmering shawl she found just the day before went perfect together.
Stringing long small jewels in her hair to look like a wreath crown on her head made her look the princess that she was now. Slipping on her slippers that matched the dress instead of high heels was a sensible option this time in case she fell or tripped while dancing. They matched as he had chosen black and blue formal robes that matched her dress.
"Ready?" "And steady." Lily leaned up kissing his lips happy to be by his side as they exit the room heading for the ballroom of high class judges.
