Chapter 98: All Out in the Open
Magnus knew Dimitri was a good dragon, but with all the things that had happened to him over the years he may have been able to hide certain things about his personality. Dimitri often did things his way finding that the laws his father and nobles agreed upon were to easy to punish or get out of depending on your station. Dimitri wanted to even the odds by making sure some of the good merchants could keep their business without the large, more profitable stores pushing him out.
While the good things about his personality showed more then the bad it would seem to Magnus that there were still some unresolved issues he needed to work on. "It would seem you two have some explaining to do. Why is my daughter running from you? What could possibly cause this kind of treatment?"
Dran went to answer but Dimitri spoke first. "Uncle, please. There is more going on here then you know. I have been trying to get to the bottom of it with her, but he always seems to show up when she wants to tell me. So what is it that I need to know?" Lily looked at her father who nodded his head in reassurance.
She walked over to him looking him in the eyes then looking to Dran who was also standing there staring at her. "Dimitri, first I didn’t know it was possible or I would have been more vigaliant. Second, don’t hate me. Be mad, yell, scream, call me everything in the book, but don’t hate me, please." Dimitri was getting a sinking feeling in his gut that he wasn’t going to like what she had to say.
Lily took a shaking breath before she speaking the truth. "You know I’m not like everyone in this realm. I’m finding out new things every day and every night I get to see my mother. I....I I I....Your brother is my mate too. And I already did the first step int he bonding process." Dimitri stepped back hearing this hoping she had just f*cked the guy, not this. He didn’t know what to say or how to react.
"I need a minute." He turned shift on the run flying off. "Dimitri!!!..." Lily wanted to go after him but felt a hand grab hers. Turning she saw Dran holding her back a shiver running through him that caught her attention. "I’m your mate too? How?" She hadn’t even told him who she was or what he actually was himself.
"Do you know who your mother is? Really is?" Dran shook his head not fully understanding what she was talking about. "Your mother is the female counterpart of the Dragon Gods. Your father is the King of the Dragon Clan who became wounded as a young commander and she nursed him back to health. In between all that she must have conceived you two. I always found it shocking that she would just throw you away. I have many questions to ask her when we get back."
Hearing this for the first time was blowing his mind. Dran always knew he had the same mother as Dimitri, but was never sure of the father part since he was so disfigured. At this moment Magnus steps forward examining this knew dragon who thought to mate with his daughter. "And just what have you done to cause my daughter grief and sorrow?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Looking up at the man he was definitely intimidated by him and his imposing, and demanding aura. "I didn’t do anything! More that the stress of telling Dimitri the truth was driving us both crazy. I mean no disrespect, sir." Magnus could see that this man was had integrity and from the way Lily was acting he was not an overbearing man. She walked over to him slipping her hand in Dran’s.
Dran’s ears got really hot holding her hand in front of Lily’s father knowing he could kill him at any moment. "So wait how does knowing all that tell me anything about you?" Lily tried to let everyone talk but the conversation does get away from her. "I was going to continue when you had finished. Anyways my father here, by the way, his name is Magnus who also happens to be the male counterpart to the Dragon Gods."
His head snapped up hearing the name knowing exactly who he was. "Your the dragon kings brother and trusted advisor. Your also a Dragon God? Wow." Lily gave him a look and he quieted up so she could finish. "Sorry please continue."
"My mother also happens to be the Goddess for the Wolf Gods. And due to unforeseen circumstances I was taken from them and brought here until 4 months ago when I found Dimitri up in the mountains. I was doing research on the Lumas Flower and Dragon Moss problem when I ran into Dimitri. Things took off from there and over this period of time I was able to meet my mother and have her explain some of this to me as well."
Dran couldn’t believe what he was hearing not only was she part dragon, but she was also part wolf too? And a goddess hybrid as well?! "Did you always know you were a goddess?" She shook her head no. "No, most of my life was spent as a servant and work horse for the Wolf Clan. After I became an adult I went after higher education. And thanks to this guy right here." She pointed to her father who was proud to hear his daughter say that.
Some of the things she can do started to make sense to him now. Only those of royal blood could use the elements and even then it’s limited. Her control was like it was a part of her and now it made sense why she could grow a field without breaking a sweat. "Your amazing, you know that?" Lily blushed hearing this since he had never openly given her a compliment like that.
Magnus wasn’t happy that his daughter had more then one mate, but at the same time he only had so much say in what she did. He hadn’t raised her so the authority he would hope to have with her wouldn’t be there. He was a trusted advisor just like to his brother, and he knew this was the price for taking something that wasn’t his to begin with. Every set of gods had their won battles to face and conflicts to resolve. This would be no different from all the other cycles.
Seeing his daughter happy though was worth all the pain he felt knowing no matter what he left something good in this world. "Here are some books you may need and here." He handed her a small pouch that felt like power was emitting from it. "What’s this?"
"That little pouch will carry all your books. A gift from your old man." She smiled grateful he thought of something like this. She was already carrying a lot in her pack, maybe she could put a few things from in there in the new pouch. "Thank you, this will help a lot." She gave him a hug, happy he though of her that way.
"Give Dimitri some time. He’ll come around. For now I will leave you to it." Lily looked sad that he wasn’t staying. "I was hoping you would stay a night. Do you have to go so soon.?" He smiled down at her, happy she wanted his affections. "I would, but I told the king I would only be gone for a night. I told him it was for you, and while he knows who I am I don’t try to lord my authority over him. He is the king."
She nodded knowing this was true. The Dragon King had been very generous to her and to her father from everything she seen at the Academy. "Will these books really help?" She had read so many at this point a long conversation would be preferred. He chuckled hearing her act her age for the first time. It was refreshing to know she still had the young child in her somewhere.
"One will the others are mainly for reference and you never know they may have there use in more then one way. I must go my daughter. Come home safe. And one last thing we received a guest not to long ago who everyone thought was dead. Is she part of the plan?"
Lily smiled glad that the lady made it to them safely. "Yes, she is. Please treat her according to her rightful station. She will be taking her post soon if all things goes as planned. Thank you father for coming and bringing me these. I needed your support to tell him too. That was harder then I thought."
He hugged her knowing it would be some time before he saw her again. Turning to Dran he gave him a message he needed to hear. "Keep her safe. She needs more eyes on her then she knows." Dran nods understanding that she will need to be cared for more then usual.
Kissing her head he walks to an open spot the shift to his dragon form. Looking down at her again he leaps into the air heading back to the dragon castle. Lily watches as her father leaves hoping she sees him again. Turning to Dran, who already has the bag of books over his shoulders. "Come on, we’ll know when Dimitri comes back. We still have thins to talk about." *This is going to be a long night.* Was all Lily could think watching him shift as she climbs up on to his back when he knelt down for her.
