We were able to find several 2D codes, but as of now only one seemed to give a lot of points.

Even at the edges of our vision we could see several students searching for 2D codes. The amount of competition was unmistakably high.

Since no one but the participants could participate, human wave tactics couldn’t be used. So there were no students who were openly cheating. Even still, with over 200 participants of course it would become like this.

I noticed Satou suddenly stand up so I turned around.

“What should I do well in, I wonder. What would let me not be a burden to my class if I work hard on it?”

“What’s this all of a sudden?”

“Sorry for saying something weird. But I have no good ideas you know? I’ve been thinking since before the Uninhabited Island Test. Am I being useful for my class?”

Saying that, Satou stared at the palms of her hands.

“Before I enrolled, I thought that I’d have an interesting and fun school life here, after which I’d be able to find employment anywhere. I want to say to myself from back then. That this isn’t a normal school. It’s an outrageous place.

If I were to phrase it badly, Satou’s abilities are holistically lower than the average student.

But in spite of that she is able to stand with the higher caste. She has some amount of influence.

Academic ability, physical ability and communication skills. They all have varying degrees of difficulty, but many students can see improvement in them by putting in a certain degree of effort.

For an easy example, Sudou’s name is the first one that comes up.

He had the lowest academic ability in our school year, but he led a remarkable lifestyle and raised his book smarts in one go.

The important thing we could peek at from there was his potential.

“If you’re gonna work hard for your classmates, sure enough you can’t neglect your studies.”

“Uu… that’s right.”

As if she was saying I understand, she hung her head and scratched her cheek.

“A-Ayanokouji-kun… wouldn’t tutor me, would you?”

“Me?”

Right after I replied, Satou panicked and thrusted her hands out in front of her.

“Sorry sorry! Forget that just now! Karuizawa-san will get mad…!”

“Couldn’t you ask Horikita to teach you?”

“Horikita-san? But, I’m not really close with her, you know?”

Not really, is a considerably mild way to put it.

For about half of the 1st year, Horikita and Satou didn’t interact like what you would call friends.

“Setting aside whether or not you have to get along with her, I think she has a reputation when it comes to teaching. At any rate, she trained that Sudou after all.”

I have absolutely no need to talk about what kind of person Horikita is or how she teaches.

She raised the biggest problem child in the school year, Sudou.

“Before I noticed, Sudou-kun overtook me huh… that’s true.”

“Don’t you want to avoid the shame of having your name at the bottom of the class and the school year?”

“Ne-never.”

Satou was one of the candidates for the very bottom from here on. The danger from that point was strong.

“Then, could I ask you to do some mediating?”

“That much is fine. It’s a light errand.”

If she can get to see an improvement in our class’ academic ability, Horikita wouldn’t refuse right. She might feel complicated about having people similar and dissimilar to Sudou join, but she wouldn’t refuse.
