Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 398: Love Struck Chaos
The tension in the air was so thick it felt like someone could slice it open with a dull bone knife.
Rong Ye still had the merman leader lifted by the throat, his claws shining in the sunlight like they were eager to get to work.
The poor mermen were shaking so hard their spears looked like they were dancing.
They had faced storms and sea beasts before, but never terrifying land males who looked like they were about to turn the ocean red.
Hu Yan’s eyes were cold and sharp as blades. He was just about to give the signal, one small motion and this beach would officially become a seafood disaster, when a faint, high pitched voice floated over the waves.
"Husband! Husband! I am here! Lan Lan is here!"
The voice came from the shore, distant but perfectly clear to their powerful ears. Every male froze at once. The killing intent vanished so fast it was almost embarrassing. One second they were war gods, the next they were stunned statues.
On a tall rocky outcrop near the shore stood Su Qinglan, cupping her hands around her mouth.
She was waving both arms wildly like she was trying to direct ships in a storm. The mermaid tribe members near her stared as if she had finally lost her last bit of sanity.
She did not care.
The System had already warned her in a calm but urgent tone, "Host, if you do not stop them now, this beach will become a dead fish market."
So she screamed even louder, fully committed to the role of love struck lunatic. "Over here! Look at me!"
In the water, everything changed.
Hu Yan felt his heart jump painfully in his chest. His usually steady breathing turned uneven. His eyes, dark and composed a moment ago, suddenly burned. He blinked, confused.
Were those tears?
He, a proud and powerful tiger beastman, was actually tearing up?
"Lan Lan..." he whispered, his voice cracking in a way that would absolutely never be mentioned again.
Then all dignity disappeared.
"LAN LAN! I AM HERE! I AM COMING FOR YOU!"
Without caring about formation, patrol, or the terrified mermen in his path, Hu Yan kicked hard through the water. Two mermen were pushed aside like floating seaweed as he shot toward the shore with reckless speed.
Shi Feng was right behind him.
His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might punch its way out of his chest.
Unlike the others, he had not mated with Su Qinglan yet. He did not have that soul deep certainty that she was safe. Every day she had been gone felt like someone had taken a piece of him.
Seeing her standing there alive, yelling like a cheerful female, made his soul finally settle back into place.
His eyes shone brightly as he cut through the water with sharp, determined strokes.
Han Jue said nothing. His powerful legs also shot into the water, propelling him forward like an arrow shot from a bow.
And the strange green weed wrapped around his neck, which had been pretending to be a decorative scarf this entire time, twitched slightly but did not dare to move much, afraid he would be noticed in such a crowded space.
So it quickly went back to playing dead.
Xuan Long stood frozen for half a second.
Hearing her call them "husbands" made something warm spread through his usually cold chest. It felt like he had swallowed the sweetest honey in the world. His expression softened, just barely.
He was about to dive into the water...
When suddenly, something heavy grabbed his tail.
Rong Ye, soaking wet and still annoyed at everything, clung to Xuan Long’s thick tail with both paws.
"Xuan Long! Quick! Wrap me up and throw me to the shore!"
Xuan Long slowly turned his head.
Throw him?
Did this shameless fox think he was a catapult?
Was Xuan Long supposed to assist in launching him into a romantic reunion?
He sneered, clearly considering swatting Rong Ye in the opposite direction.
But then...
"I am coming to you!" Su Qinglan’s voice rang out again, more desperate this time.
All the males snapped their heads toward the cliff.
And their hearts nearly stopped.
The small figure on the high rocky ledge took one bold step forward and with the grace of an agile fish jumped.
She leaped straight into the sea from an alarming height, disappearing into the water with a dramatic splash.
"LAN LAN!" all the males screamed in perfect unison.
There was no more thinking. Because in their eyes their female had slipped into the water instead of leaping into it.
Xuan Long reacted instantly.
His tail tightened around Rong Ye’s waist with frightening strength.
"Save her!" he roared.
Before Rong Ye could protest, Xuan Long swung his powerful tail and launched him into the air.
Rong Ye did not even have time to curse.
One second he was gripping a snake.
The next second he was flying.
He spun helplessly through the sky like a large white and purple tipped cannonball.
"That ruthless snake!" Rong Ye thought in panic. "Why did he throw me this hard?!"
His limbs flailed wildly as he worried he might smash into one of the sharp rocks near the shore and die in the most undignified way possible.
But fate had other plans.
Just as Su Qinglan’s head popped out of the water, gasping and searching desperately for her males, she heard a strange whistling sound above her.
She blinked.
Then slowly looked up.
A giant white shadow was falling straight toward her from the sky.
PLOP!
Rong Ye landed directly on top of her.
"AH...!"
Her scream was cut short as she was immediately pushed back under the water by the full weight of a very large, very wet fox.
The two of them sank together in a chaotic tangle of limbs, fur, bubbles, and pure confusion.
On the shore, the mermen watched in stunned silence.
These were the terrifying land monsters who had almost slaughtered them moments ago.
Now they were splashing around like a pair of drowning cubs. Do these land dwellers always behave like this?
Why did they feel like they were less intelligent and had some problem in there brain?
