Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 197 - 176: Midnight Interactions (Part 3)
Phoebe Turner was so speechless by his confrontation.
Laura Quincy continued coldly, "Compared to what she did to me, cleaning up garbage is nothing. Just a bit more exhausting. If she can’t even handle this little hardship and comes to blame me?"
Phoebe Turner stammered, "My mom just hoped to have a few days off during the New Year..."
Laura Quincy sneered, "A few days off during the New Year? I think your mom finds cleaning garbage too embarrassing and wants to save some face while visiting relatives during the holidays, right?"
Her blunt revelation made Phoebe Turner a bit embarrassed, but she insisted, "Even if that’s the case, isn’t it correct? My mom hasn’t suffered before, and she’s an elder. Do you have to be so heartless?"
Laura Quincy suddenly wanted to laugh, "Since she hasn’t suffered, I should be merciful to her. But what about when you were just a student and I had the experience of being sold? Didn’t she think about how a girl could continue living her life after going through those things?"
Phoebe Turner murmured, "But you’re doing fine now..."
Laura Quincy’s face turned icy, "Get out!"
The aura around Laura Quincy was overwhelmingly strong, causing Phoebe Turner to flinch slightly, yet she still dared to add, "It’s the truth!"
In an instant, the air pressure around seemed to drop significantly.
Laura Quincy spoke chillingly, "If you think that I’m doing well now because your mom sold me, then I can try the same on you. How about it? Want to try?"
Phoebe Turner refused without thinking, "Why would I want to try something like that?"
Ridiculous! Did she think I was a fool?
Phoebe Turner and Laura Quincy always found each other detestable, and if her fate was in Laura’s hands, it would be tragic indeed...
So, she refused to agree!
Laura Quincy laughed, "I’m asking for your opinion. Did your mom ask for mine back then? Phoebe Turner, don’t be so selfish!"
After a pause, she added, "Also, let me advise you, I’m not the same Laura Quincy from before. I control my own life now, and although I don’t like to repay every slight, those who bully me too often should receive the consequences they deserve."
Phoebe Turner was rendered speechless, her original intention to stir up a commotion left her...
"Get out! Don’t show up at my doorstep again! You don’t deserve it!"
With these cold parting words, Laura Quincy slammed the door shut with a bang. She had said all she needed to say. Her stepmother treated her like that back then, and she was only making her sweep the streets as a small form of retribution, which was already merciful enough.
Facing a closed door, Phoebe Turner stomped her foot in anger. No way! She couldn’t let Laura Quincy off the hook like this! Why should she have gone through such things and still manage to get involved with someone like Fourth Young Master Hawthorne from a prestigious family?
It’s too unfair!
After sending the unwelcome guest away, Laura Quincy sat alone staring blankly at the sofa. She didn’t know how to describe her feelings. Six years ago, when her stepmother signed that agreement, it must have meant completely shutting her out. How much must she have hated her to sign that deal?
Didn’t she consider that after going through such an ordeal, a girl might have her entire life ruined?
Ha!
It was her own wishful thinking. She probably always saw her as an irrelevant outsider!
Since that was the case, why should she feel any pity while she was sweeping the streets?
Just as she was thinking this, she received a call from Jason Hawthorne, "I’m downstairs of your building."
Laura Quincy realized that her grievances had originated from this man!
She immediately replied irritably, "I don’t want to see you now!"
Jason Hawthorne was stunned for a moment, "Twinkle is here too."
In fact, he hadn’t brought Twinkle at all, but saying this was the only way to ensure Laura would come down.
Laura Quincy sniffled, "You always use this trick!"
Jason Hawthorne was a bit baffled, had he upset her again?
The heart of a woman is indeed as elusive as a needle at the bottom of the sea...
Five minutes later, Jason noticed that Laura Quincy’s eyes were red, could it be she had cried just before he arrived? Who exactly went to see her?
Laura Quincy quickly noticed there was no Twinkle in the car, and she couldn’t help but ask, "Where’s Twinkle?"
Her confused expression made Jason Hawthorne feel a pang of heartache, "Twinkle is at home."
Laura Quincy realized she had been deceived, turned, and started to walk away, but Jason Hawthorne caught her, "Laura, I didn’t mean to deceive you, but would you have come down if I didn’t say that?"
Laura Quincy was furious, "A lie is still a lie, does it matter whether it’s intentional? Your behavior now is extremely despicable in my eyes!"
Jason Hawthorne blocked her path, "Stop it, let’s go eat first."
Laura Quincy said irritably, "Who’s making a fuss with you? Go eat by yourself if you want!"
Jason Hawthorne felt a headache coming on, "Laura, can we talk about this properly?"
A trace of sadness flickered in Laura Quincy’s eyes, "What’s there to talk about? Just the sight of you makes me feel sick! Do you think I can eat while looking at your face?"
Jason Hawthorne’s brow furrowed tightly, his patience seemingly nearly exhausted...
"Laura..."
"Don’t call me so affectionately! If possible, I’d prefer we never met!"
Throwing out these words, Laura Quincy turned and walked away.
Right now, she was in a terrible mood, unable to go eat with Jason Hawthorne, even if he wouldn’t come looking for her again after what she said, she wouldn’t regret it.
Rather than this messy entanglement, it’s better to cut ties completely!
This is better for everyone!
This time, Jason Hawthorne didn’t move forward. He stood with a frown watching her back gradually recede, his heart tangled with countless strands of worry...
For several consecutive days, Laura Quincy stayed alone at home, and whenever Nina Pierce wasn’t working, she’d come over to keep her company. Both of their romantic lives were not going well, so they found endless topics to talk about together.
"Did Jason call you at all?"
"No."
"You two... have really broken it off?"
"I’m going back to Norcastle tomorrow, and this is for the best."
"But... there’s still a tie between you two! Can you really let go of such an adorable Twinkle?"
Laura Quincy buried her head between her knees, mumbling, "It would be great if I didn’t know Twinkle was my son. Then I wouldn’t be so conflicted."
Nina Pierce patted her friend’s shoulder, "Life! There will always be things not as we wish, but they’ll pass."
Laura Quincy looked up to her friend, "Has your unhappiness passed?"
Nina Pierce smiled bitterly, "I’ve thought about it. If Noah Cross proposes to me, I’ll accept it. Who you marry is who you marry, as long as he truly treats me well, marrying him isn’t a bad option."
Laura Quincy frowned, "Nina, have you really thought this through? I think you’re just running away."
Nina Pierce ruffled her hair, "Noah really is a good man. I’m afraid if I let him go, I’d never meet anyone better."
Laura Quincy cut straight to the point, "But you don’t love him."
Nina Pierce took a moment to speak, "Maybe feelings will come with time..."
