Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 152: Big Brother Knows How to Keep a Mistress?
In the living room, Summer Lowell saw a few maids hiding behind a large potted plant in the yard, peering cautiously in the direction of the door.
She got up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, stopping an auntie who happened to be passing by: "What are they looking at?"
The one she stopped was Aunt Clara, who was helping in the kitchen, and she didn’t know what was happening either. She wiped her wet hands on her apron and said with a grin, "I’ll go check it out for you."
Not long after, Aunt Clara returned: "I asked around, Young Madam, it’s the gentleman’s younger siblings who have arrived."
Summer Lowell had never been comfortable with them calling her Young Madam, but she knew well that it was a command from Maxim Sinclair, and it wouldn’t do to take her frustrations out on them.
But since it’s Maxim Sinclair’s brother and sister, why is the main door still shut, and no one has come in?
Aunt Clara, knowing her curiosity, smiled and explained, "It’s Young Master Sinclair and Miss Sinclair who are here. Their mother is not the same as the gentleman’s, and they are not of the same mother as him either."
Those words were very straightforward, and Summer understood her meaning.
"Guests are guests, let them in, it’s not proper to block them like this..."
Aunt Clara looked at her in surprise, only responding after a moment, and then rushed off to find Butler Sutton.
Butler Sutton was also taken aback upon hearing this, but recalling Maxim Sinclair’s previous instructions, "Summer Lowell is the mistress of this house..."
"Alright then." The butler walked back to the door, glanced at the two, and with an implicit threat reminded, "Young Master Sinclair, Miss Sinclair, although our young master is not at home, the Young Madam is. However, the Young Madam hasn’t been in a good mood lately and doesn’t like seeing strangers. The young master forbade people from entering indiscriminately to ensure the Young Madam’s peace."
Knowing Maxim Sinclair had brought a woman home, the two exchanged a look and laughed together.
Melanie Sinclair looked at the distant living room with a subtle smile, cheerfully saying, "It seems the one inside is dear to elder brother’s heart!"
Butler Sutton returned a perfunctory smile, opened the main door, and welcomed the sibling duo inside.
Once they were inside, Summer turned around, poured a cup of tea, and sat on the sofa.
The butler looked at the two siblings, clearly here not without purpose, and waved over someone nearby, whispering, "Call the young master, quickly."
As Melanie Sinclair entered the living room, she immediately saw Summer flipping through a magazine.
She indeed looked quite beautiful, which explained why Maxim Sinclair cherished her enough to keep her hidden at home.
But to outdo all those women and capture Maxim Sinclair, she likely isn’t easy to deal with.
At the least, she must be a woman with skills.
With these thoughts, Melanie approached the sofa with a cheerful smile: "This must be our sister-in-law?"
An awkward silence fell...
Summer focused on her magazine, only glancing up briefly to give her a faint smile, choosing to ignore the enthusiastic greeting from Melanie.
Melanie’s face showed a flash of embarrassment, and the sense of humiliation in her heart resurfaced.
No wonder Maxim Sinclair favored her; she was cut from the same cloth.
Melanie’s heart brimmed with ire.
Just then, a maid came over with coffee, and she seized the chance to launch a veiled attack: "How many times have I said I don’t like coffee! Such sycophantic behavior, I never received such cold treatment at Grandpa’s!"
The butler stepped in to shield the chastised maid and referenced Maxim Sinclair as he said, "I’ve already sent someone to inform the young master. If you two wish to see him, you should wait a little while; he’ll be back soon."
The act of delivering items was just a cover.
The true purpose of the siblings coming today was to meet the woman Maxim Sinclair had brought home.
Melanie, indignant at being ignored, sulkily sat on the sofa, her eyes soon glinting as she stared at Summer, her tone suspicious as she questioned the butler, "I heard recently that elder brother was about to marry Miss Tina of the Huxley Family, yet suddenly someone new is here at home."
The butler, knowing that Melanie was never a quiet character, though puzzled by Summer’s decision to let this troublemaker in, couldn’t let her stir things up.
"Miss Sinclair has been abroad and might not have gotten the latest updates. The young master never mentioned marrying into the Huxley family. For a long time now, I’ve known this is the true Young Madam of the Sinclair Family."
Summer’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, and her page-turning slowed.
Failing to annoy, Melanie shifted tactics, staring directly at Summer: "Why is sister-in-law not responding?"
Determined not to get involved with them, Summer continued to focus on the magazine in her hands, ignoring the varied looks cast her way.
The butler sighed inwardly.
He couldn’t understand what the young master had done to offend her to such an extent that she wouldn’t even entertain pleasantries.
As Melanie and Marcus Sinclair’s expressions grew increasingly grim, the butler could only awkwardly act as though nothing was amiss, offering to smooth things over: "The Young Madam hasn’t been feeling well these days. Why don’t you two come with me? The scenery in the back garden is quite lovely, and every time Old Mr. Sinclair visits, he spends some time there."
Ignoring him, Melanie instead walked over and snatched the magazine from Summer’s hands.
Summer looked up at her, expressionless.
Melanie’s anger intensified under her steady gaze: "Don’t you have any manners? We’re all talking to you here."
"Do I know you?" Summer glanced at Melanie, then at Marcus standing behind her, before turning to grab another magazine, which she opened.
Seeing this, Marcus was about to snatch the magazine from Summer too, but Melanie blocked him with her hand: "Let’s leave. We’re unwelcome here anyway."
...
Aunt Clara had been helping there for about a decade, quite experienced, yet she’d never witnessed a scene like this before.
She looked over at Summer who continued reading, then beckoned for the butler who had just returned from seeing off the guests into the back garden: "What’s going on?"
The butler was equally puzzled, scratching his head in frustration: "How should I know? I don’t know what the Young Madam is thinking!"
"Is this the young master’s plan? To use the Young Madam to warn those unruly ones?"
"Perhaps." The butler couldn’t come up with a more rational explanation either.
On the sofa, Summer leisurely sipped her flower tea.
Back when he worked as Maxim Sinclair’s secretary, he was once instructed to handle matters concerning Maxim’s half-siblings.
In large families, there’s always wariness towards siblings with outstanding abilities who could compete for power and profit.
Maxim Sinclair was no exception. Leveraging his own advantages, he had employed countless means, spoken and unspoken, to eliminate all potential threats before his siblings fully matured.
After he genuinely took over the Sinclair Family from Old Mr. Sinclair, eliminating any possible threats, his half-siblings gradually realized they had been outmaneuvered by him.
